  1. Isn't is strange how video tapes are always specifically called 'VHS tapes' now? Considering that VHS is the only video tape system that most people know of these days, what does it need to be distinguished from?

There was also Betmax which competed against VHS in the format wars.  Before VHS, there was U-Matic cassettes; those were only used by TV stations but were planned for the consumer market.  You also had the short-lived Cartrivision system, Video 8 and Hi8, the latter two being more for home movies than consumer home video.

      @7800knight

I know about the other formats, and I have a Betamax deck and a few tapes. I was just pointing out how it's odd that VHS tapes are always specifically called 'VHS' when there's no real need to distinguish it anymore, as most people probably aren't aware that there were other formats. It's like if everyone started calling Coke 'Original Coke', even after New Coke has fallen into obscurity.

Maybe it's just for clarity...Some people I knew had Betamax,...But by and large conjuring  memories of the bygone days of VCRs and renting tapes at one of many, many locations...Being Kind and rewinding haha...It only takes the words "VHS Tapes"...Or maybe saying "On VHS"... Good Times though!

  2. Happy New Year. Here's hoping things change for the better.

I wonder if there's any differences to the game itself, or if it's just the cab.

  6. Apparently Disney's attempting to remake Home Alone. Is nothing sacred?

There would be an amber alert on the kid so fast it would make your head spin.

Also, Every kid that age has a cellphone it seems so they could just call whoever

among the million options they would have. Like Jay said, the movie would be

      over before it started.

Perhaps it'll be set in the 80s/90s like the first movie, just with better effects/acting/visuals and such.

You don't want my opinion on remakes.  Well it's the same as everyone else's but with more profanity and gruesome, horrific, imagery.  Just once I want a remake where they can't use the original title and I don't get my hopes up when I see it on TV....

I couldn't remember off the top of my head if he was directly referenced in DK Jr. as Mario for the first time.  Yes-- it's shown in the arcade version as the "Marios" pull DK up in the cage.  It reads: GET KEY FROM MARIO.  SAVE YOUR PAPA!

What I want to know is;  Is the game referring to both of them collectively as Mario, or is it only referring to one of them?

      ventrra

Of course they're both Marios, Mario Mario and Luigi Mario as referenced in the Super Mario Brothers movie. ;)

The first 5 or 10 minutes was just Wookiee family grunting, right? No spoken dialogue for what felt like hours, if I recall.

    2. MotoRacer

      MotoRacer

It's a port of the Wii U game. No new anything at all other than introducing two new playable characters. Honestly, I'm ok with this. F the Wii U, might as well make it completely worthless by bringing over every decent game in its library.

  13. Here's a thought. If you recorded an old episode of AFV on VHS, would the clips sourced from a tape suffer from generation loss?

    1. Nathan Strum

      Nathan Strum

Always. There's always generational loss with VHS.

Nintendo has a little over 5000 employees. While people put career ahead of family in Japan, I would think at least 500 of those have kids.

Trek is definitely under-served in terms of games. There was supposed to be a Final Frontier game too, but we know how that movie turned out.

The SCUMM-type adventure games of the mid-1990s were wonderful.

I am mildly obsessed with the very free-to-play Star Trek Timelines. I think it's neat. Your mileage may vary.
