RIP Dickey Betts. Incredible song writer, great guitarist and a HUGE influence. The Allman Brothers Band is my all-time favorite band. Rest in peace to one of the last Brothers (Jaimoe is the only original member left).
-
Hard to pick a favorite. My favorite Dickey song is probably Blue Sky. Favorite ABB song... I don't know. I absolutely love Get On With Your Life... Maybe Whipping Post? Dreams? Liz Reed?
Back Where It All Begins is my favorite studio record. It's the one that got me into the band in the first place so it has a special place.

Picked up a used Meta Quest 1 for cheap. It's actually pretty cool, there are some neat travel & meditation apps. The virtual roller coaster is surprisingly fun. Hard to wear for a long time with glasses, though. About 30m is all I can do. Still, for cheap, it's a fun little gadget. Older model isn't super high res, but it gets the job done. The tracking is really good.
-
For me, it's more that it presses the bridge against my nose. I'm using an older pair of glasses with thin wire frames. If I had bigger, thicker glasses it might be a different problem. I can do about 30m, then it starts to get uncomfortable. Still, that's enough to enjoy it. I don't need to sit with tiny screens one inch in front of my eyeballs for hours on end.
-
Today I put on Youtube for my cats so they wouldn't bother me while I worked from home. What kind of crazy world do we live in? Granted, it was just during a particular 30m meeting late, but still... File under "things that 5 years ago i wouldn't not have foreseen myself doing." By the way, the Birder King channel is great - my cats both absolutely love it.
-
Someone at work shared a picture of their cat which had a star-shaped mark on his face. I mentioned that it looked like he was dressed up as Ace Frehley ... the person said they didn't know who that was and had to google it. Yep, getting older...

After a nice hiatus, we've started up the Sega Master System High Score Club for a Spring round. Come join the fun!

Any FPS with a level that has a long series of precarious jumps automatically gets docked one grade from my review. They're not fun and nobody likes them. Don't try to show off how clever a designer you are by making players rely on the one thing FPS games don't - and can't - do well. Playing through Titanfall 2 now. It's a good game, but that one level... ugh, how frustrating and annoying.

Family all slept late, so I got to play some Atari this morning (7800 Frenzy and 2600 Megamania). Merry Christmas, Atari Age!

After 20 years of living in our house my wife found the magic light switch, that apparently did nothing, actually controlled power to two (not all) of our outside motion detection lights. All these years they seemed kind of flaky, sometimes working sometimes not... I flashed back to Christmas Vacation when Clark couldn't figure out why his Christmas lights weren't working. Exactly the same thing.

I'm getting tempted to spring for a Meta Quest 2 VR headset - prices are relatively low (lots of sales at the moment), I've had a few good VR experiences lately (King Tut museum exhibit had a great virtual tour), and it seems like there are games worth playing. Hard to say how much I'd use it. Anyone have first hand experience, pro or con? It's a bit hard to know what's compatible with what headset.

I've had the PS1 Final Fantasy Chronicles discs on my "retirement games" list for 25 years. I decided not to wait, and played through Chrono Trigger for the first time over the last couple months. I haven't played a JRPG like thi sin a long, long time and really enjoyed it. I can see why the game is so beloved, they did absolutely everything right in this game. Super memorable characters, settings, dialog, great combat, nothing was repetitive. Just and excellent game through and through.

I feel like I could have written this Status Update! (All except for the part about finally having time to play it...). When I bought the game; (Wow! Has it really been 20+ Years haha?) I set it on my dresser for a while, thinking I'd see it each day as I got ready, and I had plans to carve out a weekend for it. Alas, I was a busy dude...I had a GF for a bit, I was in bands, I ran sound for other bands and did recordings for myself and others...Plus work,...And my friends wanted me to go out with them on the weekends etc. Seems I put it with my other PS1 games and quietly forgot about it...
-
Haha, we live parallel lives @GoldLeader - in the ps1 era I was in bands, had a gf, busy with work, going out with friends, etc... I didn't play as many games in that generation as others. I've got a pile of games on my "I'll play them when I retire" list - including FF Chronicles. Lately I've been thinking "why wait?" By the time I retire, it's likely my original PS1 might finally die. So far so good, though, she's running like a champ.

Yesterday I listened to Alice in Chains during my run, watched an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on live TV after work, and then played some Chrono Trigger on my ps1. Apparently I'm in a 90s mood.

Finally finished the Dead Space remake. Never played the original. It was a very tight, well-done game. Most importantly, the core gameplay and combat was fun. I also liked that there were a lot of side quests and extra stuff to explore if you want to. It also looks incredible (played on PC w/ an i7 & 2070). I played on Easy, and to me that was just the right level difficulty. I died a few times, but never felt frustrated. The variety of weapons and upgrade paths available adds a lot, too. On the downside, the story - as with most video games - wasn't well fleshed-out and didn't make a lot of sense. It didn't really matter, though, just kill the things trying to kill you and get to the next section. 20h also felt a bit too long, although I tend to feel that way about most modern games. It wasn't excessive. There were some unique and creative scenes for sure, but still, there's only so many space zombies you can shoot before it feels repetitive. Overall I give it an A-.

Caught a nasty cold, but on the upside I took a sick day and in between napping I watched some Star Trek (original series), and played Atari 2600 while listening to Rush's Caress of Steel. It definitely helped the healing process.

To be fair, I had the sound on the TV as well, so it was a bit of both. Caress of Steel never makes a Rush Top 5 list, but i really like it. Two epics, Fountain of Lamneth and The Necromancer! Bastille Day got a lot of FM radio airplay, that's the one some from the album most people would recognize.

Watching The Mole People on Svengoolie. The movie holds a lot of nostalgia for me, because it's the movie I remember watching on Svengoolie with my grandpa when I was a kid. I never forgotten the Mole People, but haven't seen it since! Rest in peace, Pops, hope you're watching Svengoolie and baseball on the great TV in the sky!

Went skateboarding around the block with my 14 year old and I didn't break anything. I consider that a success.
-
Never played the original Dead Space, but I'm quite enjoying the remake. Very atmospheric, and lots of space zombies to dismember.
-
I got over 20,000 in Alien on the 2600. Happy about that. It's not that hard of a game, I had a couple of stupid deaths. I like the game a lot, but I've never beaten the bonus round.

PSA: Santa Conquers the Martians is on CometTV right now! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Atariagers!

Merry Christmas!
FWIW, Whenever I get my AtariAge order; One of the homebrews I ordered was Wizard's Dungeon...Kind of a Christmas present from my sister, (but picked out by me, you could say)...So I will always think of that game in the same way I think of games I got in the past on Christmas. Your game will be in good company with other Atari, ColecoVision, and Supercharger games

It was so good! As often as I've seen the film, watching it in the theater (for the first time, I was 9 when it originally came out) I saw so many little details I've never noticed before. https://www.fathomevents.com/ runs a lot of great stuff.

I tried to order from the QR-only menu, but an unremovable google ad covered up the "pay" button and not matter what I did (resize, reload, scroll around) I was unable to complete the order. After a few frustrating minutes of trying to get a burger and a beer I gave up and walked away. Your loss, Newark airport. What a crock. I can't say I've ever had a good experience with QR code menus, but this time it actually cost the place money.
