  1. Cruel words are much easier to forget saying than they are to forget hearing. Be mindful what you say.

Oh yeah?  Let me tell you something about yo momma ...

  2. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is only $10 on Steam right now. So tempted, even though I'm only 40% of the way through Doom: Eternal and 12h into Witcher 3, and still on the first mission on SW: Squadrons... decisions, decisions...

I say pick it up, and be sure that you get the bug fixes.

  3. Enjoying some Blackwell's rum while I listen in on a final call at work. Work/life balance, am I right?

You said it, brother.  Or like my dad used to say: "work some, rest some..."

I always liked work hard, play hard...Even if you're just working hard so you can get to relax ;)

My German teacher in junior high used to say "Work hard, play hard, that's the German way."

  4. Worked most of the day, then kicked back with a beer and some Atari & Colecovision. Got a personal high score in Venture (level 8, >300k). Work hard, play hard, that's the German way (even though I'm Italian).

Colecovision (Flashback).  I do have and like the 2600 version, though of course not as much variety. I also have a Venture hack for the 2600 I picked up at CGE 2007.  I haven't played that in a while, though.  Venture was always one of my favorites.

I like the cut of your jib my friend!  You know what's up!   I am gonna take your lead too!   I've got this gigantic task of shoveling my driveway if this GD Storm ever subsides,...but Video Games and Beer are on my radar now and forever!  For sure tonight sometime and this weekend which may last a while as I'm not sure when work will re-open,  but I get snowed in worse than most around here...Check out my "View"!

  5. Development would be a lot easier if Visual Studio didn't randomly crash on my every 5-10 minutes.

Which version are you using? I've been using VS2019 Community Edition for web development and Jetbrains Rider for Unity. Haven't experienced issues with Visual Studio, but then I haven't updated it for a while.

Version number would be helpful, Service Packs?  I run VS2015 Pro and VS2017 Pro, they only choke sometimes on extremely complicated large solutions.

I have never had an issue with it crashing, works flawless even on my older dinosaur PC's i have scattered around the house (install it on everything). I would say there is something else causing the crash like, a hardware issue or corrupted files.

  6. Ugh, sat down to write come code tonight and every single line is garbage and making things worse. Sometimes it's best to just step away for a bit.

For myself IRL is just crazy busy at this moment, so finding time is the biggest hurdle. Really need to make progress with my latest project it's due for a major update.

  7. Ocarina of Time as a prog rock concept album. It's really good!

Pretty Awesome!  Seems like something we should all own on vinyl.

  8. Cinemaware Bundle is $1.99 on steam. Couldn't pass that up.  Sadly but not unusual, I spent 15 minutes fiddling with Steam trying to get it to recognize my usb ps3 controller in-game instead of actually playing, then kid's bath time was up. Sometimes steam/gog/epic/origin works with controllers right out of the box, sometimes they don't. Shades of config.sys & autoexec.bat editing...

And people wonder why I don't play games on PC (heh)...

    2. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

Don't get me wrong, mostly I really like the PC for games... but this kind of thing is why I drifted over to consoles 20 years ago. I've come back around, but still frustrating when things don't work.

  9. The handle snapped off my USB 2600 stick :(  Suggestions on a quality replacement? I have other usb controllers, I'm looking specifically for an Atari-style joystick.

    1. Rogerpoco

      Rogerpoco

I'd really recommend a usb adaptor to use real CX-40's on PC.

Actually, I'd even go a step farther, and recommend the adaptor, but try out a flashback stick sometime-one of the cheap ones, from a low end flashback.

The feel cheap and flimsy, and they ARE, but they actually respond quite well, and are a LOT easier on the hands than the real thing.

Just don't play Dragster with it, or it's bye, bye handle again!

So ya, a usb adaptor, and a flashback stick, I'd almost guarantee you'd be happy with that!

    2. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

Haha, yeah, my real CX-40s have lasted 40 years... but the new USB one made it about 3-4 months.  Good call on the adapter.

    3. Rogerpoco

      Rogerpoco

Not shilling, at all, I use one from Retronics design, but I think there are several options out there, and most will allow you to use any controller with the CX-40 style output, uhh,,, plug. 9 pin, 8 pin, whatever it is.

  10. Mars Rover Perseverance lands successfully!

Meh, better off without Facebook (although I'm just being snarky, I know some businesses, charities, etc came to rely on it - not that there aren't replacements but it had been used a lot).

      x=usr(1536)

Oh, I agree.  Dumped it years ago and frankly haven't missed a thing about it.

I just can't understand how anyone at Facebook thought that a move like this would be a good idea in an era where the tech giants are under scrutiny for abusing their influence.  Stupidity?  Arrogance?  A little of both?

Either way, I will not shed a tear if that company crashes & burns.  It's responsible for more social retardation than any other I can think of.

Possible one of the worst sites in history. Full of normies and people i had tried to rid from my life years ago wanting to add me. Should be called spybook... Full of morons that i use the internet to escape from. Safe to say, if it wasn't for family that i can't visit, i would never visit the site.

  11. I liked the Doctor Strange movie... sue me. That said, I'm not really a fan of super heroes or super hero movies in general, so maybe this is one that appealed to 'non fans'. Reminded me a bit of the Mortal Kombat universe.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Yeah that was a good one!

Super hero movies to me, are generally pretty good, but it's like they try to be sci fi action horror comedy movies all wrapped up in one, so they don't really excel in any one area.

    2. LS650

      LS650

I thought it was quite entertaining, a cut above most superhero movies.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

In general I like Sci Fi, Fantasy, and Horror etc., so for me movies like Doctor Strange, Hellboy, or Guardians of the Galaxy are going to be better than say an X-Men movie.  Then again movies like The Dark Knight or the Sam Raimi Spiderman movies, which may be straight up Superhero movies are Awesome too, because they were so well done...

Every other day I get up around 5:15 to go running before my kid gets up and I do his morning routine.  I get up, have one cup of coffee, and check email and browse a bit while stretching.

I always thought Triple H was a bad dude.  Kinda rooted for him.  I think that early 2000s Triple H/Rock/Steve Austin era was the last time I watched wrestling at all.

Wow, so they had 2 studios employing 150 people that will close and they never released a single game.

  14. All weekend spent fruitlessly debugging. This was supposed to be a "fun" project.

  15. I had fun dream last night I was in a bookstore and found stacks of old Atari ST magazines and Conan comics. I wonder what brought that on?

  16. Uh oh, I've gone down the rabbit hole of ripping my ps2 discs and playing via pcsx2. It works great, especially since my original ps2 died a few years back and I haven't gotten a replacement.

    3. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

I tried pcsx for PS1, but even on my i7 it's pretty choppy and sound cuts out all the time.  Playable, but not great.  There are lots of options on that front, I'll have to check out XEBRA, thanks for the tip.  PCSX2 runs great so far, but only played a couple games to test it out.  Can't get it to recognize my discs, but maybe for the best, there isn't a real disadvantage to just making ISOs out of them.

      Swami

For some reason all the emulators are like 70% compatible for PS1 except XEBRA, but you need a reasonably powerful PC to run it well.

  17. Watched 1964's "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" with my son this morning, waiting for mommy to wake up. It was horribly great.  Merry Christmas AA!

  18. Over the last 10 years I haven't introduced a single bug into my company's code base. I accomplished this incredible feat solely by moving into management and not submitting any code.

  19. Weird, I have a pretty bad sore throat, but no cough and plenty of energy. Hopefully I can knock this out before it takes hold.

I'm 3 for 3 this year so far in knocking out colds/sore throats before they really take hold - tons of vitamin C, A, D, oregano oil, etc.  Let's see if I can make it 4 for 4.

  20. Finally playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 (1p campaign) and it's actually really good. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Pretty solid Star Wars story.

  21. I had breakfast food for lunch today and it was fantastic.  I love doing that.

But have you ever had dinner food for breakfast?  Chicken fried steak and creamed dried beef on toast each make a great breakfast.

    2. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

Nope, might be good but not for me.  1) I never eat breakfast - I fast from 8pm-4pm 2) I don't eat much meat, but when I do it's generally plain, no sauce, coating, etc  Fish & Chips is a notable exception ;)

  22. Lemon64 servers were hacked, which caused the outages recently.  LemonAmiga is back up and 64 is in progress.

Yeah, any passwords reused on multiple sites better be changed but then again we've known for the past 10-15 years how bad it is to reuse the same combo of email and password on every site. ?

Not sure I've changed my Lemon64 password for 10 years - LOL.  I think all the others have probably changed since then though.
