  1. 1) Reasonable amount of time has passed (at least a week) 2) Decent quantity of votes (at least 30, unless it goes on too long) 3) No ties 4) I remember to do it.

  7. ? Well, where's the logic in randomly creating a grid and then pitting them up head-to-head? Doesn't make sense to me but I admit you've got my curiosity. I did not "randomy create a grid". I opened up nominations and then, based on a 3-2-1 point structure, listed the titles in points order from the highest point winner to the lowest. Using that, I determined the seeds for the four divisions. Ties were settled by random number generation. We do this every summer.
  8. I am too. I don't like 7 or 8. Is it not going to work with the new forum? Download Firefox! Firefox is the number one browser in the World right now. Google Chrome is a rising star as well - although not quite yet up to the market share as Firefox. IE6 has about 14.4% of the market. That is a totally inaccurate picture of the market. They even say themselves "These facts indicate that the browser figures above are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by at least 80% of the users." Here's a more accurate version: http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-ma...re.aspx?qprid=0
  9. Round ONE continues: Galaga vs. Moon Patrol Super Pac-Man vs. Pole Position Crazy Climber vs. Wonder Boy Gauntlet II vs. Frenzy STILL ACTIVE Division A - Part 1 and Part 2
  10. Just got Lego Batman. I wanted to get it on the Wii, but the Xbox360 one is a lot easier to come by used (paid about $12). The same fun Lego action I know and love from Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones, just with Batman. Gives me a good, family-friendly action game on the Xbox360. My game-mad nephew is coming over tomorrow (seven years old - been a gamer for five) and he's sure to want to play the new system. This title is perfect for him.
  11. Time marches on... Continuing Round ONE: Crystal Castles vs. Blueprint Ms. Pac-Man vs. Blasteroids Night Driver vs. Spy Hunter Tempest vs. Out Run I'm going to keep all Round One polls open until the whole round is finished, so if you missed the last one, go back and vote now! (I'm also going to post later "parts" more often so this doesn't drag on too long.)
  12. Yes, I know I never seem to be able to get these things together in a timely fashion. No excuses, but things have gotten crazy at home with six little kittens running around. I just don't have the free time I once did. Anywhooo.... Here are the four fights that will kick off the 2009 AtariAge Vintage Arcade Game Shodown: Pac-Man vs. Bubble Bobble Star Castle vs. Stargate Arkanoid vs. Tapper Bosconian vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The full brackets of the tournament are attached. A few titles were nominated, but did not make the cut (ties were decided by lots): TMNT II Missile Command Salamander Elevator Action Gyruss Pac-Mania Space Invaders, pt. II John Elway's Team Quarterback
  13. Yes, it's a fine machine. It's not loud at all (as I've been told the older models are) and I'm also made to believe it is more stable and less likely to RRoD on me. I don't think it will take over as my primary machine from the Wii (much as the Xbox did not take over from the GameCube), but it, again like the Xbox before it, is going to be a solid second machine; the place where I can play the games they don't put on Wii. I hadn't even thought about the "Rhindle the Red" connection until I was posting here. I just have a weakness for limited edition consoles. (Pokemon GBC,GBA & DS, Halo Xbox, RE5 X360...)
  14. Hey! I can finally post in this thread for real! (Got the RE5 Xbox360 last week. It's red!) I've been mostly playing that 1 vs 100 Live game every night. I find it to be a fun set-up and a decent trivia challenge. I haven't actually started RE5 because I want to give it the time it deserves and time has been at a premium of late. The only other games I have are Sega Superstar Tennis / Xbox Live Arcade (Pac-Man Championship Edition rocks!) and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. Oh, and those Burger King games that I bought previously because they worked on the original Xbox.
  15. I just have to ask: why? I have quite a few UMD movies myself (though they don't count for this survey as I indicated at the beginning), but I would never prefer those bare-bone releases at lower quality over a DVD. Why do you prefer them?
  16. Okay, locking this again. I'm *going* to start this thing this week. I may just need some time to set up the brackets. See you soon.
  17. You must have an order, or I'll just give points based on the order you typed them. And for those wondering, my cat (who only joined the household two months ago) turned out to be pregnant and that's kind of dominated my time. That's why I re-opened this. I'll try to start the actual Shodown next week.
  18. Okay, last chance to nominate your titles. I'm going to compile tomorrow and the Shodown will begin on Tuesday if all goes according to plan.
  19. That's fine, but you will be costing Joust its otherwise higher position in the seeding. And, people, please *number* your votes. Go back and edit in the numbers, or I'm going to assume you want them in the order they are listed.
  20. Please try to remember to include the year. It'll save me some time in checking or sorting if we do the divisions. If you're not sure, check at the Killer List of Video Games Thanks!
  21. Okay, it's time for the nominating phase of the Summer Shodown. This year, we're concentrating on vintage arcade games. I've decided to tag 1990 as the last year of the "vintage" era, as arcades would change drastically in 1991 with the release of Street Fighter II. So, please nominate three arcade video games released *before* 1991. Nominate the titles you want (regardless of whether they have already been nominated) in preference order, as the tournament seeding will be based on a 3-2-1 point system. First place votes get three points, second place votes get two points and third place votes get one point. List your nominations as follows: 1. Mario Bros. (1983) 2. Donkey Kong Jr. (1982) 3. Joust (1982) So that's three points for Mario Bros., two points for DK Jr. and one point for Joust. Got it? Now, in the poll above, vote as to whether you want the whole thing seeded as one big tournament (as usual) or as two divisions: Old School (1971 - 1979) and Classic Era (1980 - 1990). The divisions are marked by the release of Pac-Man. If we do the two divisions, only the top titles in each division would make it in, meaning some titles that got higher point counts could be left out. Go!
  22. It's here. At the Poll of the Week. Here's the bracket from the final round of the 2007 Shodown to give you some idea. Each of those matchups represents a poll that pitted the characters against one other. The winner moved on until a champion was declared. Got it?
  23. It's a tournament of video games we've done the last few years. It's inspired by the one that GameFAQs does, but with a focus on vintage gaming. Here's the finals from the last three years: The 2008 Vintage Game Shodown 2007 Vintage Character Shodown Atari Shodown (2006) I spell it "Shodown" as a tribute to Samurai Shodown from SNK.
