What is the thinking here for a possible Kevtris jailbreak release for the Duo? Seems a bit weird to have the Pocket enjoying the Kevtris cores and rom loading, while leaving the actual Duo without these functions?

In my opinion Analogue is making jailbreaking difficult with each release, probably avoiding legal issues.  But if the Duo receive a jailbreak will not be by Kevtris because he said that analogue hired another guy to do this project.

  2. I got a set too but did you see guys that estimate shipping is Q3 2023? 😔

Sure is quiet around here, given that reviews went live a few hours ago. :)

The gist from what I've seen is that Analogue delivered, but that the product perhaps isn't quite as polished at release as is typical. The basics though are all in place and perform as expected. A bit of a surprise given the long gestation period, but sounds like much of it will be getting addressed next month like the barebones nature of the dock at release.

One surprise for me is that the Super Nt paired with my Super Game Boy isn't yet quite obsolete. No Super Game Boy support at release and no guarantees it will be coming, although at least one review channel on YouTube inquired about it and was told it was a possibility. Perhaps there's not quite enough horsepower to easily run a pared down variant of the Super Nt core alongside the Game Boy core.

I'm dissapointed about the dock and the non existent DAC support. I hope that it come soon by firmware update. But I can't imagine how they pretended to launch it in 2020 even 1 year latter some features aren't implemented yet. Maybe just with GB and GBC cores ready out of box? This is indeed the most audacious project from Analogue and I hope that they fulfill everything they promised even if it take a year or more. I got two units in the preorder (for me and my friend, no scalpers here) and tomorrow I will take a look if more cartridge adapters will be available (NGPC, Lynx and TG-16).

Hi all, a question for you all if you don’t mind.

i recently took delivery of my Analogue DAC, intending to use this for my Mega SG and Super NT connected to a consumer CRT TV.

Long story short (after a bit of hit and miss with power supplies) I managed to get a picture with my DAC in the RGB input on my CRT TV. Success.

Problem I have now is that my DAC needs to run through a Scart switch box, in this case a Lotharek Hydra Mini.  This switch works perfectly with all other devices, including Neo Geo MVS (via Supergun), composite connected consoles (wii, ps1 etc..,.). But it will not display a picture from the DAC, it picks up the signal (and ‘locks’ to the input) but only displays a black screen.

The DAC is connected to the Hydra using a RetroGamingCables HD15/VGA to Scart lead.

It’s a random question, but does anyone have any experience of a DAC with a Scart switch box, any workarounds?  Hope your can help, this is drying me nuts.

Probably you already returned the Hydra but did you try every sync option in the DAC menu? It's very strange to hydra do not pick up the signal. My friend had one and they told me that the creator uses the official rules (composite signal as sync) but now every scart cable manufacturer sells C Sync RAW cables. Thats probably causes a lot of incompatibilities.

When you tried it was you using a HDMI switch in the chain? Because not every HDMI switch works with DAC. I had to buy a mechanical HDMI switch from Japan but now I have a more easy option to find at amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J6GJ448?pldnSite=1

I use a DAC plugued in the mechanical japanese HDMI switch and then plugged in a gscartsw and it works fine.

Realistically speaking, where should Analogue go from here?

What we currently know is that they are working on dual projects, the Pocket and Duo.  They also finally shipped their final run of NT Noirs.

Kevtris has also stated publicly that Analogue has hired more engineers which in turn will take a huge weight off Kevtris and allow him to make even better use of his resources, we can already see the benefits that brings with the ability to develop many projects concurrently.

However, we are getting closer and closer to hitting the limits of what they can implement given the FPGA chips they can realistically use.  It seems like PS1 is about the most powerful console they could realistically implement in terms of the overall man power required and the chips available at the budget they are willing to consider.  Besides PS1 what other FPGA consoles do you think they should/would consider developing?  Do you think they should start getting into Classic Computers and Arcades?   Do you think all hardware going forward should have third party support option like the Pocket?

I think they can back to the roots and make a Neo Geo FPGA (I think it's doable with current FPGA chip Analogue use or a double fpga setup as Pocket). This in 2022. Until there maybe the prices comes down and can be viable to use the same chip as Mister (115k LE if I'm not wrong) and enable Nintendo 64, PS1, etc.

At least an Arcade FPGA defeat their "legal" vision:

Analogue Duo does not play copyrighted ROM files, it plays legacy game cartridges and CDs.

They can put a floppy drive to make a classic computer fpga compatible with originals games but I don't think they will do it.

But I hope that increasing the engineer dept no only allows they will able to run 2 projects at same time but could also update previous works. Also have stock of their products would be nice. I miss the time when we complaim about the higher shipping costs but there was something to ship to us...

About third party support nothing was said about Duo. My guess it's a Pocket only thing because the pocket is like the Zimba 3000 portable edition. I dont see an updated pocket until Nintendo DS or psp are doable in FPGA.

Can someone tell me if the prior NT mini had a problem plugging in the 3D glasses and if the Noir fixes the problem (if it existed).

I remember something having a power plug too close and I think it was the shutter glasses, but maybe it was the FDS system.

A Famicom controller extender (or easy to find neo geo) will solve the problem to both V1 and V2 Analogue NT mini.

You know, I hate to be that guy, but I'd prefer they just release some of the things that have been promised for some time now and then worry about selling me something else. They've been sitting on money of mine for the Noir and the Pocket for some time now and wanna potentially sell me something else? Not really a good look....

That said, if I had to guess I'd guess PCE as well. We're not to the point yet where 32/64 bit would be feasible, at least from an affordability standpoint anyway.

A pc engine fpga with a cd-rom drive would be great but not now. You have a good point!

Maybe it's just some new features for the pocket and a new batch for pre-orders...

    about 10k orders

I ordered a dac on jul 27 (after the 'false start' non-preorder).  it was order #45389

myself and two coworkers ordered pockets today:

    #47455

    #50876

    #55302

we were all hitting buttons as fast as possible

I think you are right, but could be more than 10k (many 2 units orders).

Mine was #46163. Confirmation email was received at 08:02:08.

I kept refreshing wondering where the preorder buttons were. I'm glad though to have some time to think it over some more. $300 with the dock is awfully steep.

Is $20 for this USB-C power supply a fair price?

Well, afaik you can pay $10 for a similar Aukey (18w) usb-c wall adapter on Amazon.

But the dock already comes with the wall adapter... if you plan to buy it.

I don't think the pocket needs USB-C 18w. Maybe a usb to usb-c cable and a regular 2.4a usb wall adapter charges as well (but in 1 X mode?)

    From wall adapter page:

"Fast charge Pocket 2x as fast. Designed for Analogue Pocket but compatible with all Analogue products."

Not that it would be a terribly elegant solution, but couldn't you just use one of these with that adapter and call it a day?

I keep a cable extension like that pluggued all the time in the back of my original NT mini. All famicom accessories need this (cables are too short!).

I just use a velcro tie to not leave the extension loose.
