  1. Just had a play of it in Atari800MacX. Awesome work guys. That title screen is unbelievable.
  2. I'd like to here of some too. All the suppliers I have used have ebay shops.
  3. Oh yes...it's freezing up here...still, keeps me awake enough for Yoomp! (I still love that game)
  4. Mark, that looks amazing. Well done. You say the problem is the use of colour, well, how about a gradient at the top of the screen (using DLIs') and then maybe a different colour for the ground area. just a thought (but I have had a drink or two )
  5. Just had a quick play of this. Well done
  6. Just to throw my 2 pennies in, I was completely blown away by Rescue On Fractalus on the A8. also, the original Lords of Midnight on the ZX Spectrum show what a good programmer could do with only 48K of memory.
  7. Not a lot of help, I know... But I've not come across that bug before
  8. My idea is also to try to keep the existing keyboard. Although I would keep the keyboard socket of the laptop so that I could plug in an external keyboard should I require the full functionality.
  9. My top ten would have to include, in no particular order: Donkey Kong Pac-Man Rescue On Fractalus Dropzone Ultima III Goonies International Karate
  10. If there is a relatively easy way to do this, I would be very interested as I am looking to put a laptop into an 800XL case at some point in the future.
  11. As some of you know here, I have been working on a couple of projects. Unfortunately, they have been put on hold for an extended period (oh for the day when I could just get on with things like this). However, I have been wondering if I have been going about these in the right way. Could anybody let me know their opinions as to performance of compiled programs when comparing cc65 to Kyan Pascal or Quick? The benefits of being able to code in a modern text editor is very attractive, but I don't want to do this if I lose out on performance.
  12. Looks very interesting. I'd also like to see a Mac OSX port.
  13. Why wasn't the Oric-1 on that list. That had a horrible keyboard. I'm glad the ZX Spectrum wasn't there though. Once you got used to it, it was ok. The Spectrum Plus on the other hand is a nightmare.
  14. Best wishes to you too Dinosaur, and all my Atarian friends. I'm only a beginner, this is only my 22nd Atarian year
  15. I disagree. Some of the ports (Donkey Kong in particular) have better gameplay. I found the arcade version too picky about positioning when trying to climb a ladder, which left me feeling infuriated. The A8 port feels much more responsive and fluid.
  16. Ooh, I never played the arcade version....time to download again
  17. I was playing Donkey Kong the other day on emulation, and I wondered how different it was to the original arcade version. So I downloaded Mame and the applicable ROM and tried it out. Whilst the Atari version is very close to the original, there are certain differences. However, I find myself preferring the Atari port. Dunno why, I just find it more fun. Any other games where the ports are better?
  18. Return Of The Mutant Camels also made it to the A8, although it was known simply as Revenge II. Although the C64 original was written by Jeff Minter, the port was done by Steven Riding, and the game was published by Mastertronic in the UK.
  19. Even Jeff Minter admitted that the games were extremely similar. In fact I, if I remember correctly, he got the idea after a review of the Parker Brothers game said that the walkers looked like camels.
  20. Well, it's all a matter of opinion. I personally prefer AoTMC over the Parker Brothers game, but that could be because I came across Minter's version before the Parker Bros.
  21. Speak for yourself. I wasn't around in the 60's
  22. Absolutely. Totally agree here. And some of the best games of the 8-bit era were only avail;able on the Spectrum, or started life on a Spectrum. However, my choice, and it is only a personal choice, would be the 800XL. it had a great keyboard, plenty of free RAM (especially if BASIC was disabled), a more than capable BASIC and, well it goes without saying, the graphics were phenomenal.
