I just managed to win Atariwriter from eBay. Unfortunately, it is cart only. Does anyone know of an online version of the manual? or where I can download one?

I used to have IK on disc, unfortunately, I can't remember what happened to it. I also don't remember a title screen I just ran up an ATR version on Atari800MacX...no title screen there either.

So there's no difference between these two games apoart fromn the fact that one was released here and the other in the US? I was wondering why they looked identical.

I just won AtariWriter and Pac-man carts (I must be one of the only people on the world not to have Pac-man) and an original Atari joystick.

Wow, thanks for the links Gury. I will check out Action!, but it's not easy to get a cart these days, that's why I use Quick. Plus Quick is still being supported by the author!!! I'm adding a lot of new stuff to my site, including cover scans and content listing of my entire Atari User collection, 3 years worth. These are the Atari User BEFORE Page 6 took the name. (If anyone has the last 7 issues and wants to sell them, I have cash waiting :-)). Details of Mac based Atari stuff and more (including a poem for Atari).

I did just that recently, and YES it is as good as I recall. Better than some of the modern games I play IMO. Back in the 80's playability was a big thing in game development (although not all games were playable). It seems that today, playability seems to have taken more of a back seat to stunning visuals and technical achievement. I still play Pac-Man and Mr Do, I can't imagine myself playing many, if any, PS2 games in 20 years time.

That's right. If I just need to type a letter, I use the Atari, I prefer the keyboard and the software is simpler to use. Also, using the Atari, I know my documents are secure, away from potential hackers (yes, I know I'm paranoid). If I need to do layout, or add pictures to my docs, then I use Pages on the Mac. I also keep a diary, using Cut & Paste, again so that it is secure. I also have this theory, that if a computer was good enough for certain tasks 20 years ago, then it is still good enough for those tasks now. There are somethings it is not suitable for (photo editing, 3D rendering, commercial software development, etc), but for basic word processing, spreadsheets, etc, it was capable then, and still is. Hell, most people still read books made from paper, and yet we have PDA's now capable of holding a massive number of ebooks. Besides, sometimes it's nice to get away from the clutter of modern applications.

Just re-read what I posted and realised it could be misconstrued. For the record, I think Atarimac has done a great job with the SIO2OSX. I was surprised that I got a USB-Serial to work first time.

I decided to try my luck today and bought an USB-Serial cable so that I can plug my 800XL into my iMac. I bought the only one I could find, which is made by Sweex. Only cost £24.95. It worked!!! I now have my Atari talking to my Mac. I am over the moon.

That's exactly what I thought. In fact I may have owned one like that for my MegaDrive (Genesis). Not sure if there would be much software that would utilise all those buttons though.

I believe the command you are looking for is PRINT CHR$(253) It generates a beep/buzz sound
