That brings back great memories. In the 90's I brought copies of the Champ games shareware versions to my PC computer group for the group's software library and they were a huge hit.

I picked Atari/Sears because of nostalgia and they had the dust cover that (kind of) keeps the contacts clean. They had the best quality labels of any of the game companies too. I liked Activision, Parker Brothers, Spectravision and Imagic cart designs too.

Champ Games - Galagon (aka Galaga) 2600
WildBillTX replied to johnnywc's topic in Homebrew Discussion
The double shot is best for the challenging stages, but it makes your ship twice the size and easier for the aliens to hit. I also suck at Galaga, but I still love it. I think thats why its still one of my all-time favorite games. And after playing Atari's 1983 Galaxian, and how predictable the alien attack is. I'd love to see a Champ games version of that classic too.- 427 replies

Champ Games - Galagon (aka Galaga) 2600
WildBillTX replied to johnnywc's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I wish there was one for the C-64! Atarisoft's version of Galaxian was terrible. I've checked out the new C-64 homebrew Galencia, but its gameplay is different. It reminds me of Starpath's Communist Mutants. Thanks for the answers about the Retron 77. I'll still be buying one for my light sixer and jr!- 427 replies

Champ Games - Galagon (aka Galaga) 2600
WildBillTX replied to johnnywc's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Wow, this is mindblowing. I'm amazed you got that many moving sprites and starfield on the screen without everything turning into flicker hell. The unusual thing I noticed is the galagans pull out from formation a little faster than the Arcade or NES version. Otherwise its about as perfect as you can get it. Awesome job!- 427 replies

I'm using a Sandisk 2gb card I had from an old phone, it works fine with it. 7800 roms dont work, I wish someone would modify or code a 7800 emulator for it.

Thank You Stephen!! I was getting frustrated at games not working and hoping someone would upgrade Stella! But I wish I could go into the options menu to change the size of the launcher menu (its a little too wide for my TV) and set game properties for A/B switches and stereo sound.

Here's a ebay scan of the HDMI version. If the box doesn't mention HDMI "720p HD output" then its the composite output version. I just tried both and they work. I also tried Champ Scramble and the latest Pacman 8K build, but Scramble didn't load and Pacman 8K had lots of screen tearing and was unplayable.

Thanks for the update! I love the fast mode switch, though it gets crazy fast on the higher levels.

Family Dollar is selling the Atari Flashback 9 for $30 this week, but its also the composite video model. Like a sucker I bought one, but its no huge deal for that price and it may become a christmas present. What makes me mad is there was NO mention of a composite video output anywhere on the box. The menu is like the flashback portables and older flashbacks, so I couldn't get the firmware update to install. It really sucks that AtGames is doing this.

I've been having fun with my Retron 77 so far! The video looks great and it's playing most of my old cartridges and I like the joystick. I hope Hyperkin will sell it separately. Is there a online comparability list of what the Retron 77 can and can't play? (cartridges, roms with the regular firmware and the community build) Thanks!!

Now I know why all those Californians are moving to Texas! Anyway I just got my Retron 77 yesterday from Castlevania games. Is there any way to tell if it has the improved joystick and latest firmware?

Retro-Bit Super Retrocade with Capcom, Data East games
WildBillTX replied to Flojomojo's topic in Dedicated Systems
I got mine from Amazon this week! Thanks for all the rom links and tips like putting game roms on different SD cards. Overall a it's lot of fun, but I agree it could have been a lot better. I wish it would default to regular screen size, and it sucks they didn't think about making it run Atari 2600, 7800 (and 5200, Colecovision and Intellevsion roms with a usb keyboard). My problem is trying to create thumbnails for hacks like Tecmo Bowl 2018. The game plays fine, but I cant get a thumbnail png image to load on the screen. I've tried making my own and then modifying the one that came for the original version in the nes.zip file but it wont load up. -
This is awesome, I played it til the 7th level (PS how about a continue level feature?) and I'm amazed you included everything the arcade version had. This may be the best game music I've heard on the 2600. I set Stella 5.12 to play it in stereo just to hear what it would sound like, and was disappointed the music was all out of the left channel with the sound effects on the right. It's not a big deal since the 2600 is mono anyway.

Namcot was Namco's home video games division. It meant Namco Television or TV. I heard an error with the music, sounds like it was skipping a section.

Just played it. Mappy was always one of those games that I didn't think the 2600 could handle, but this has everything the arcade version did. Great job!!

Atari Flashback Portable!
WildBillTX replied to Byron's Reviews's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
There are cheaper copies of that case without the PSVita logo on it. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Insten-Eva-Case-For-Sony-Playstation-Vita-Black/28911758?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=1375&adid=22222222227019480544&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=52503375671&wl4=pla-84064428431&wl5=9027073&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=112561991&wl11=online&wl12=28911758&wl13=&veh=sem- 1,499 replies

Family Dollar is selling the Retro Machine for $15 this Thanksgiving weekend. I picked one up and thought it was a fun toy, though the controls arent great, the rom hacks are bad and there a lot of crummy games. #153 First Defender is a copy of the old Intellevison game Astroblast. #84 Powerpull Girl is a hack of Commando
