And that is why Videogame Magazines are so hard to read now. The real Videogame Journalist are being replaced by Fanboy Bloggers and Halo Freaks. I wonder how many people you have dealt with really know who you are? So what exactly is this board game thing? Collecting older ones or something else? Oh, I was never a real journalist. Not even close. That term applies to college-educated folk who write about wars and politics and other important topics because they want to enlighten and educate the public. I was a hack who started writing about video games in my teens so I could scam them for free instead of paying for them. (And it worked so well that I ended up with more games than I could finish in two lifetimes.) I agree with you that most of today's video game magazines/websites/blogs are a chore to read, but for me, it's because I don't feel as if I have anything in common with the people who write them. I'm Generation X--they're Generation Y. The board-game obsession is mostly with Eurogames: Puerto Rico, Carcassonne, Power Grid, Die Macher, et cetera. I discovered the genre through The Settlers of Catan (which seems to be the Eurogame gateway drug) and quickly became a huge fan. I love the unusual themes, the emphasis on nonviolent gameplay, and the social aspect. Especially the social aspect, now that I'm old enough for that quote by Dani Bunten to really hit home: "No one ever said on their deathbed, 'Gee, I wish I 'd spent more time alone with my computer.'"
