I still use it because I have a small and actively groomed list of people I follow. My usage is very targetted to a couple of special interests and if things get to off the rails I unfollow. It's a source of brief entertainment and a way to keep up with hobbies. That's all.  At that level, it's usable.

Yeah, I think if I took the time to cull some of the accounts I follow and did what you're doing, use it to keep up with a few special interests, it could be useful and entertaining. Unfollowing Ben Heck alone has increased the enjoyability a hundred fold.

I do like that Twitter doesn't pretend to facilitate "conversation" the way FB did. You can't have an actual conversation online, so having all those replies hidden makes it easier to ignore and not get sucked into the futility of it.
