  1. Worst computer I ever owned was an AMD K6-2. Second worst was an AMD Opteron. Both ran really hot and crashed all the time. Third worst was my Apple PowerBook G4. It was so poorly designed that if you picked it up wrong it would flex so much that the battery would fall out...
  2. Huh, I never heard anything about the DX-50 being unstable before now. I had one. DX-50 with EISA bus. I was even able to overclock the EISA bus to 10 mhz with 3 EISA cards in it. With just 1 EISA card I could get 12.5 mhz stable. Eventually I dropped in one of those "586" upgrade chips. Set at clock tripling mode it was stable for 16-bit gaming (including 32-bit extenders), but would flake out with true 32-bit protected mode software. I had friends with the DX2-50 and vs the original DX-50 the DX2 was noticeably slower even in purely 16-bit software.
  3. I picked up a real nice one from https://bonuslifecomputers.com/ but it looks like he's currently sold out of Atari systems. Inventory comes and goes, but seems like the last year or so people have been buying systems like crazy. Prices are way up and finding them is really challenging.
  4. I am enjoying those "Discover" blog posts as they come up!
  5. My exact configuration wasn't listed in the poll, so I took Physical Regular as the closest. I want the physical cart and a manual. I also enjoy having a box and extras, but if I have the choice of saving money and NOT getting those, I will opt to save the money. If only available with box and extras the higher cost does not stop me from buying.
  6. Ouch, didn't know about the microtransactions. In that case I'm out. No PS5 for me.
  7. This would be so cool. Original Adventure on my 2600 (tons of fun), Adventure II XE on my 600XL (took it to a whole 'nother level), and then another awesome addition of Adventure III for 7800!
  8. I know... Sure would love to have it soon, but I also want them to make sure to take the time to get it just right!
  9. Those Intellidiscs overlays look amazing! Nice job!
  10. I've had 3 2600s (1 heavy sixer and 2 JRs) but unfortunately none of them survived. My lone 7800 keeps going though...
  11. That's very odd to hear from someone on a retrogaming forum. We were happy to get even 5 FPS back on some games back in the day. I really haven't noticed any issue specific to the modern screens with the low FPS.
  12. Yeah, there's one game and one game only that I want on PS5. I want to buy the console JUST to play GT7. I have no interest on anything else on the platform currently.
  13. I think I'd like to get a VCS, but still haven't seen one in person at a store...
  14. Ouch. Hurts to see a 2002 listed as 20 years old... That's the newest year car we have in our family...
  15. Beautiful artwork, wonderful game. I hope more new carts of similar quality make it to the A8 soon!
  16. I vaguely remember "Gold Disk" from my PC DOS days, but I can't recall any more about it. Sounds like they may have distributed on multiple platforms?
  17. Hmmm, just recently got sample PCBs. I wonder if they'll make that 1Q target yet or if it's going to slip back into 2Q. Cool to see there's progress being made though.
  18. Originally it had said SE would ship December and LE 1Q 2022. Maybe that's the change they made, get the LE out first?
  19. Website still saying SE shipping "by Q1 2022". I guess they could ship anytime now? Maybe? Hopefully?
  20. I've been through a few of them (consumer grade) in the past and have yet to find one that doesn't have a problem with ghosting. Not sure I want to spend the $$$ for Enterprise grade to avoid swapping cables every couple weeks or so. Found any good inexpensive ones that have good signal quality?
  21. I received my Retro Computer Store order today! Surprised it arrived so quickly (ordered just 24 days ago)! One of the items is the "MDA / CGA / EGA to VGA video signal converter supports Commodore 128 / C128 / IBM / Tandy" (which suddenly is no longer on the store, but fortunately Bing has a cached version so I could look up the DIP switch settings). Wish it had a case, but is a great little device. I can now finally use 80 column mode on my C-128! Unfortunately due to my monitor / RF modulation situation I have to move my VGA cable back and forth when I switch modes, but I'm really only going to use 40 column for a couple games. The majority of the time it'll be in 80 column mode for C-128 BASIC and CP/M (ZPM)... The other is the SD2IEC. Once again, wish it had a case, but works very well. I've been using a BackBit up until now. I really like the BackBit, it loads EXTREMELY fast and has a great system for loading/managing images. The one snag is that it won't work in C-128 FAST mode (but works fine in C-64, C-128 SLOW, and even CP/M modes). Evie does have a PLA replacement available that can lock cartridge access to 1 mhz, but I found my PLA was soldered rather than socketed and I don't trust myself to work on spaces as tight as the PLA anymore (don't get old, it's nothing but trouble). Obviously the BackBit is my primary device, but for when I do need to drop into FAST mode (and can tolerate the much slower serial I/O) I can just unplug the BackBit and swap my SD card over into the SD2IEC (which is configured as device 9 so I don't have to remove it when the BackBit is installed). BackBit doesn't care that the SD2IEC software is on the card and the SD2IEC doesn't care that the BackBit files are on the card. Yes, I will grab another SD card someday, but right now I only have the one and was real happy to find that there are no issues with sharing it between the devices!
  22. I'd pay $100 for a modern (and compatible) REU...
  23. Saw it came out, grabbed it, THEN found out it needs an REU. Oh well...
  24. Never realized the crash happened until reading about it here. I mean it seemed natural at the time. Didn't seem like anything unusual was happening...
  25. I suspect Elite 128 uses a trick like that. I'm told it uses fast mode even though all the display is through the VIC. It definitely crashes on the Backbit which is consistent with FAST mode usage.
