1. Great job on this game! I received it a while back but I've been a bit busy. I finally had a chance to sit down and play it today...wow it really does feel like I'm playing Super Mario on the 2600. You did a great job capturing the look and feel of the game. And yes, excellent job on the label.
2. Hi everyone, I'm trying to help my friend get an emulator for his PSP, and we're both stumped as to how to use any of the ones that we've found through Google searches. Can anyone recommend one that's easy to use? Any platform at this point, although my friend is partial to the NES and since this is Atari Age and Atari-related ones would be cool too. Thanks!
3. Hey everyone, I'm selling my A/V modded Colecovision (with the intro screen skip) along with several games and some instruction manuals. If you're interested PM me for price and pictures.
4. The only vendor that I buy all of my Colecovisions games from is eColeco. Up to this point I hadn't realized that all of their carts are copies, although I suspected the manuals were, but that explains why the carts look all new. Since I only buy them for play purposes this doesn't bother me one bit plus they work a lot better than some of the used original carts that came with my Colecovision. I do agree that their prices are rather high, but where else can you get brand new Colecovision games most with manuals? Their customer service is decent. They don't really answer questions but when you order, they give you a confirmation number within a day and games usually arrive in 2-3 days. So far I have purchased extension cables and the following games from them: Spy Hunter, Root Beer Tapper, and Escape from Mindmaster. I highly recommend them, although if you're looking for an actual Colecovision console I say go to www.vikingvideogames.com because you can get a clean, A/V modded Colecovision. Hope this helps.
5. Hey, I really enjoyed this game. Super Mario Bros was one of my all time fave games for every Nintendo platform starting with the NES, so I was really excited when you decided to hack this for the 2600. Also, I'm a huge fan of Smurfs: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle, so you just combined 2 games that I really enjoy. I had a lot of fun playing this, and you did enough changes to really make it feel like Mario. I like the addition of the pipe, the changing of the sky to black, those slight changes really went far in changing the mood. I wish the music could've been altered but the Smurfs music surprisingly fit. Can't wait to purchase a copy. How do I go about doing so?
6. These screenshots look awesome! Count me in I'd definitely like a copy. I'm a huge fan of Smurfs for the 2600 (more so than the CV version actually), and I'm a huge fan of Super Mario Bros for the NES, so this is a nice mixture indeed.
7. Hmmm...I have a 7800 without an expansion slot....so this computer add-on won't be able to work with my 7800? Also, where would I be able to obtain a 7800 with an expansion module? I'd assume it would be very expensive since they were only produced in 84.
8. This looks awesome so far! I'd get this in a second. My 2600 awaits...
9. Definitely Colecovision. I owned an Intellivision for maybe about a month, and it's funny because I was born in the early 80s so I had never seen an Intellivision until recently. I had been drooling for months over at the IntellivisionsLives site once I got my hands on a system from eBay, I was totally disappointed. The graphics sucked, and I'm not just speaking from a spoiled modern gamer perspective since I have a 2600 which I enjoy very much, but the Intv graphics looked worse than the 2600 and the controllers sucked royally. It's like using a calculator to play your games. Although the Colecovision's controllers aren't much better at least it's a joystick (albeit short) versus a wishy washy disk and most games just use the action buttons not the keypad. Plus the graphics and sound rock!
10. Thanks! I'll look into getting it repaired, but in that case I might as well keep it for myself.
11. Hey everyone, I have a 7800 that won't power up, so I'm thinking of selling it to someone who wants to get it fixed, use it for parts etc. I have the original box (a lil beaten up but still decent), 2 joysticks (without the Atari stickers), RF cable, switchbox, and a brand new power supply, in box, from AtariGuide. I also have the following carts in great condition: Scrapyard Dog, Karateka, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, and Pole Position II.
12. I have just installed the latest version of z26 and downloaded all of the KidVid Audio Packs for Bernstein Bears and Smurfs. I can play Smurfs but I can't get the audio to start during gameplay. I know you're suppose to hit 1, 2, 3 to start the corresponding tapes but nothing happens. Any tips?
13. Actually, Level 4 is the only level that's even challenging enough for me to handle, with the birds and bats not only moving fast, but also doubling back to get me from behind. And sometimes, because the arrangements of the obstacles in the cave and field zones are so random (you can even change the arrangements by having Smurf briely go back to the screen he left and then return), the bird and bat movements can get you in a place you don't want them to get you. The thing I don't like about CV Smurf is that the difficulty doesn't increase as you play (except if you're playing Level 3, where the third time around brings the game difficulty up to Level 4), whereas the Atari 2600 version DOES cause the difficulty to increase as you continue, up to Level 4. Anyway, as much as I enjoy playing this game over and over, the overall game does make me wish Gargamel could have been included as an enemy on the very last screen, where Smurfette awaits -- even if he appears no bigger than Smurf-size! 967312 I couldn't agree more. Before I even bought a Colecovision, I was drooling over screenshots of Smurfs -- it just looked so advanced for its time, like a pre-Super Mario Bros. When I first played it on MESS I was really blown away. I enjoyed the music and the bright colors and the attention to detail, and likewise I could only play on Level 4. But once I finally beat it, there was no thrill left in the game, and it became too easy. I'm assuming the game is so easy because it was aimed at kids? I was hoping they could've done more. I would've liked more obstacles, and the possibility of retaliating -- perhaps against Gargamel. Although, I guess I might've been asking too much of a game that came out so long ago. I've found BC's Quest for Tires to be a much better platformer.
14. I'm getting a little bored of my current selection of CV games, and wanted to know which other titles are popular among members of the board. Titles which I enjoy so far are Spy Hunter, Root Beer Tapper, Frogger, and Q Bert. Titles which I'm not so hot about are Venture and Donkey Kong.
15. I'll take this as a vote for Pesco then I've checked out Allia Quest on the AA store, looks fun from the screenshots. What about Merlin's Walls? I heard mixed reviews about that, especially the fact that you have to turn your tv on the side...
16. I've been following up on the games that Ebivision released for the 2600, but I've rarely found any reviews. So for those of you who own any of their games, what do you think? Which titles do you recommend? Any that should be avoided? Thanks.
17. Metroid definitely looks good, I think it would be very possible, but I'm even more interested in the possibility of SMB. It was my first video game and I'm really curious to see what it would look like on the 2600, and how many levels could be crammed in since I like variety. It's nice to see the pics from the NES version, anyone want to try some mock-ups of a 2600 SMB?
18. I have just dug out my Jaguar from storage and am interested in selling it, but I want to know how much it's worth. Here is what I have: 1. Atari Jaguar console 2. One controller 3. One switchbox 4. One power supply 5. One box (a little beat up) along with the pack-in carton (also beat up) Games (loose, no instruction manuals or overlays): 1. Rayman 2. Iron Soldier 3. Defender 2000 4. Zool 2 5. Theme Park 6. Fight for Life 7. Cybermorph 8 Wolfenstein 3D 9. Tempest 2000 10. Kasumi Ninja 11. Hover Strike Thanks!
19. I have one of these, and I heard that it vastly improves the image quality over the traditional switchbox. The only thing is that unlike the switchbox I can't switch back and forth between the TV and my games without having to unscrew the adaptor, is there anyway around this?
20. I want to try out the top notch games for the 7800. I don't want to mess with the mediocre titles like Karateka or Pole Position 2, but rather the games which really display the system's true abilities to the fullest and are fun and addicting to play. Let's see what the 7800 has to offer....
21. Am I crazy that I like Food Fight? And Galaga was a horrible port It is just so disappointing, esp compared to the NES one. But the rest are good.... and I always say, Desert Falcon = fun. 938351 I got a 7800 from Radio Shack a few years ago, and I remembered having a blast with it, particularly because I was going through a huge 2600 phase, and was glad to have 2 systems in one. It was cool going back and forth between the old school and the less old school system. :-) But for a while now the system has been collecting dust, and after hearing so many dismal reviews of most 7800 games I'm not sure if it's worth dusting off. So, I wanted to know what are some of the top games for the 7800?
22. Thank you! But where would I get the XEGS ROMS from? There is no directory on Atari Age as far as I'm aware. Thank you, I just downloaded the ProSystem EMU a few days ago, it's okay so far although I prefer MESS. I downloaded ProSystem so I can try the Frogger homebrew.
23. Quite right, especially since it meant that Atari was having to support THREE different video game platforms at the same time: the 7800, the 2600 Jr., and the XEGS. Imagine how frustrating it must have been for Atari shoppers to have to look at THREE different versions of Desert Falcon on the shelf and figure out which one was correct for their system! Of all three of these platforms, the 7800 was the most advanced but also the most expensive/difficult to develop for, so in typical fashion, they recycled games from the 8-bit computers for the XEGS and recycled 2600 games for the 2600 and 7800, with a few new 2600 releases and even fewer 7800 releases (most of which were bad anyway). Very sad, especially for us 7800 fans that hated seeing it starving for support. 938114 Although I wasn't even aware of the 7800 during the late 80s -- I only played the NES -- recently I have been surprised to find out that Atari was supporting 3 platforms at the time, while Nintendo only had to worry about the NES and I guess the Gameboy later on. Also, it does seem confusing that Atari kept releasing several versions of the same game on all 3 platforms. I guess their logic with the 2600 was that since it was already a huge seller they could cash in quickly but it seemed wrong headed, especially when it seemed that the 2600 was getting better games than the 7800. Secret Quest and Road Runner were much better and more eye catching than a lot of 7800 offerings. But I digress. I'd like to try out some of these XEGS and 800 games, is there a good emulator out there?
24. I have to suspect that people were disappointed with the XEGS when it was released because the hardware was 8 years old. 938081 I'm also quite surprised that the XEGS uses the same joystick as the 2600 except in white. I mean by the mid to late 80s, I'm sure gamers wanted more than just one button. From what I've been reading it seems that Atari wanted to push the XEGS as their main system after sales of the 7800 were going slowly. Why would they do this? Was the XEGS technically superior?
