  1. I used the "update all" script today and now a lot of Arcade games give "missing rom" errors.  Even some that worked before.   It gonna be like Mame and break things with every update, or something I'm missing (besides those roms :) )?

I haven't done any troubleshooting yet.  I'll get to that later when I have time, but figured I'd come here to bitch n' moan about it first.

I’m glad you’ve been released from TT’s stasis chamber. What you’ve said above means nothing. Compare  Wii bowling from 15 years ago and this- one is terrible in every way, and one is not.  Even John’s explanation is nonsense as these games are supposed to be “simple”- even for grandma (which by the way is a sexist and misogynistic trope that these scumbags love to roll out), and yet even the die hards have been complaining about the controls.

Funny thing, well to me at least, is a while back he was saying that the reason he replies is because y'all troll him/tag him into these.  But there it is, no trolling, no @ to him, no quoting him, just plain ol’ volunteering to rush in and meSplain it.

  3. I haven’t.  I had a similar thought a while back – well, wasn’t selling anything but thought about grading and sealing some of my unopened games for future purposes – but after researching WATA, it seemed pointless.   Pretty well documented, really… I mean, they’ve been known to grade and pass off bootlegs as the real deal for example, so I have 0 faith and respect for WATA grading after researching.

Now, if you’re selling them and have no moral qualms about it, it could be worth it to you if you’d like to use the grading to sucker some extra $$$ out of some poor sap who doesn’t know that it’s a scam and still puts value on it.

There's no per-controller setup or save like usb controllers, loading the appropriate core, and setting a controller to snac is all that's required.

from my understanding, the cores hook to the snac controller port as the original systems did. So the controllers can't manipulate MiSTer menus.

It's a little weird in some core menus, when you have a snac-connected light gun in hand, the correct answer to what kind of controller is attached is 'snac,' and not light gun.

SNAC is pretty great. About the only bummer I've ever had while using them was finding out the 2600 one didn't support paddles. But it's great to be able to use an nes zapper, or back up my ps1 saves from back in the day.

Thanks.  That convinced me to go get one and give it a shot.   And then I got all the rest while I was at it because, well... you know how it goes. 😁

I've been having n64 controller-pak saving issues with the core, so I've got an n64 snac on order to see if my saving problems go away.  ...or if they start spreading to my real saves. 😅

Between the n64 turbo core, 0mhz collection, and replacing ps1 cue/bins with chds, MiSTer's really been monopolizing my free time.

Assuming you're familiar with SNAC usage -- if I have SNAC for "real" controllers, does it save the info after initial setup to allow easy switching, or any issues with switching from NES to Genesis to SNES to PS1, etc?

For example, if I use a real NES controller with the NES core, then unplug that and plug in a Genesis controller for Genesis, then later switch to SNES controller for SNES, will it seamlessly know and use my settings, or do I need to config anything between switches.

...  hope all that made sense.  😁

He's admitted the controller isn't really fit for it's purpose...but they're still claiming they're going to manufacture and sell these things by Christmas this year?

    Why?

Well, you know how so many stories have these characters who gain too much knowledge/insight/wisdom and it drives them mad?  Kind of the same thing here... all those billions of years (give or take a few) of experience they were bragging about was more than one mortal team can handle, so it drove them incompetent.

Each new product like this devalues the original hardware and its library because people then believe the original (hardware and software) was also crap.

That really sums up the part that makes me sad with this sort of thing.  I've seen many cases where new users would be introduced to these games via lackluster gadgets like these, and come away with the impression that "these old games suck.  I let them play the same games on the real thing, and they have a blast with the same games.

Every time I click on a YouTube video about this one I expect to see someone Open fire and not hold back,  But instead they instantly start making excuses...Like well lemme just grab another joystick here and see what's up...Weren't these the Same people who ripped on all of the Atari Flashbacks?  The Later ones, from 2 on up, with the Good joysticks, which were by and large just fine?

I know at least one has said that they got it "virtually free" (whatever that means) and they were afraid if they were truly honest about it, they won't get any more loot in the future.  Not gonna name drop, because that'd be a douche move, but I imagine they're not alone in that way of thinking.

  8. Funny thing about the PS1 classic, though, since it's in the list as the worst of the bunch 😁  It stunk straight out the box, no doubt about that, but I grabbed that thing super cheap at some point, and thanks to hacks n' such, it's a great little gadget now!   I'm hope we'll see a similar treatment with 400 mini at some point.

  9. I gave it a "5 - It's mediocre"

I returned it already, but may repurchase at some point in the future after some fixes, hacks, and a major price drop or sale (which I'm sure will happen)

I have a BUNCH of mini console type of things here, and it's not the worst of the bunch, not among the good ones either.  Joystick issues aside (others have covered that pretty well) it just makes all the games feel "less" than what they are and not fun for me.  From my testing, for example, I can boot up a game on the original console or Mister and, not only does it feel right, but my performance/score is where it should be.   I play the same game on this, and it's crazy how much I'd struggle to get close to that score thanks to lag and how the game just generally feels "off."

If you or anyone else is having a blast with it, that's great, but it's not for me in its current state.

Did you test the games enough to see if they had lag or whether they played smoothly?

Yes, lag is there.  Not bad enough to make them unplayable, in my opinion, but certainly enough to make them all play/feel worse than they should, which zaps the fun right out of the thing for me.

If you want more mini consoles from Atari ( like a Jaguar or an ST ) you need to support this release, plus it's guaranteed to be of high quality, it's being made by the same people that made the C64 and Amiga minis so you know that it's gonna be a good product.

Sadly, it's not that great.  Maybe some updates or hacks will polish it out a bit, but not there yet.   Looks nice, and looks amazing on the shelf beside some of my other "mini" gadgets, but playing games on it is a bit of a bust.  I'm pretty downhearted, actually  :(   Probably gonna return it because it's too expensive to keep as an ornament, I don't want to physically alter the joystick to improve it (as suggested in some other threads on here, I think) and it makes good games feel "less" than they deserve.  Games play great on real hardware and FPGA like Mister, but a bit of a bust here.

  12. Yeah, it's a bit of a stinker, sadly.  Love how it looks, but playing games on it... meh... it has the same problems as many other "mini' gadgets where it just makes good games seem like they were crap.  Probably gonna return it.
