  1. @electronicsibley as requested... This is my CIB unit with matching serial #'s. This is my daily that I AV modified using mini jack to RCA. Still has protective strip over banner. This is the Expansion Interface model with bad tactile switches. This is standard model with bad tactile switches. I think this one is A1 7B 5085018, but can't confirm that. And here are the tactile switches I just received today to fix the two units.
  2. I just received two 7800's in a lot (non-working parts only) from ebay. They did not power up. They both work just fine, but the tactile switches (specifically the power switches) are bad. This is very common with the 7800, so if you do get the power cord sorted out and it still does not power up, look at the switches. To test it, just bridge the power switch with something for a second and see if it powers up. They are momentary switches, so you only need to bridge for a second to get it to power up.
  3. @Trebor @-^CrossBow^- @DrVenkman Thank you all for the details and suggestions. Makes sense. Only oddity with all the comments are my CRT's and LCD's all display the same colors. The RF 7800's and the AV modded one all show same colors. So at least I am getting consistency across all LCD/CRT TV's. All of my LCD's (and CRT's of course) are 4:3. Will try out RevEng's utility cart. I've got several utilities on my Concerto.
  4. Just to note: I am using the cheap and basic transistor/resistor AV mod on the modded one.
  5. So, I actually have four, but one is CIB and practically new, so I did not test it. They are all NTSC. My main daily is a 7800 that I did an AV mod to (RF completely removed). The other two I received today as a lot from Ebay (stated not working and for parts). Not surprising, both of them have faulty tactile buttons (power button specifically) and they both actually work just fine. (Ordering replacement tactile switches today). Here is the issue. All three have color issues. They all show a solid bar on the 7800 Diagnostic Software, so they should all be correct colors. I've tried them all on 2 CRT TV's and 3 LCD's and same results. Using COMMANDO as my test game, the grass is blue, the water is extremely blue and colors are just off everywhere. The title screen of the soldier is all greenish blue. I've tested other 7800 games as well and they all have same issue. To get proper color, I had to adjust the 7800 color pot on the AV modded one to get as close to the proper color as I could, but now the diagnostic software shows 2 pink bars within the solid bar which means color is not correct. I did NOT touch the other two 7800 color pots. Thoughts? I read on one post that the 7800 colors get saturated over time and also depends on long unit's been on (warmer retains colors), but not sure I fully understood that as I have left them on for quite a while to see if any change in color. None. The 2600 colors are fine and I did not mess with that color pot.
  6. Downloaded it earlier this week and played it a little bit. Incredible game. Been so busy with holidays and wrapping up yearend work projects have not had much time to play. @retroillucid Fantastic job!
  7. Had the server expired error last night. This morning, everything was fine and was able to download a new game with no delays. Random access at random times is so randomly random. ?
  8. I like the idea. Maybe provide three choices for color to cover all three versions (400/800, XL & XE)? Definitely has the look of "what if Atari released a SIO hub". I'd be all in for one!
  9. Good stuff! I have same identical keyboard but it's branded by Inland and sold through MicroCenter. I also use it for my Pi's. Currently using it on my Pi ZERO W (Atari800 specific only) Just got this one today for my VCS from Amazon for $29.97. True mechanical 60% USB wired keyboard.
  10. Nope, but I was able to login to 23 bios tonight with the celebrate password and make changes. Happy happy joy joy ?
  11. I tried both ways. Well actually multiple ways and the same occurred no matter which way I did it. I'll give it another try today after work. Maybe I overlooked something on my end.
  12. Another MicroCenter owner here. I upgraded memory to 16GB DDR 3200 and added a 240GB M2 internal SSD yesterday. I was able to downgrade BIOS to 21 to use celebrate password and increase memory speed, etc., but after reboot BIOS was updated to 23 and now BIOS password does not work. ? I also tried reinstalling OS/BIOS via USB stick which worked just fine, but during boot up it updated again and password is invalid.
  13. USA here: I was having issues just logging in last night. Kept telling me there was no internet connection even though it downloaded/installed updates before my login. I gave up and went to bed. This morning everything worked fine. So maybe there was an issue on ATARI server side?
  14. Look at the backdrop behind them. It's the entire background...?
  15. This one appears to have a more functional keyboard and uses PiZero
  16. I did finish it and sold it to a forum member back in 2017. Can't find any pictures of the finished mod and not sure where it is now. The link to the document appears to be bad now, but found it via Archives: HOW TO ADD A MONITOR JACK TO A 600XL THIS MOD IS COPYRIGHTED BY KEN SUMRALL. HOWEVER, YOU MAY FREELY DISTRIBUTE IT, AND MODIFY IT, AS LONG AS THIS NOTICE IS INCLUDED IN ITS ENTIRERTY. THE AUTHOR MAY BE REACHED AT THE FOLLOWING EMAIL ADDRESSES: ken%hpda@hplabs.hp.com ...!hplabs!hpda!ken Here are instructions on how to add a monitor jack to your 600XL. This jack contains the following signals: pin signal --- ------------------- 1 Composite luminance 2 Ground 3 Audio out 4 Composite video 5 Composite chrominance The numbering convention for the DIN connector is: 3 o o 1 5 o o o 4 2 This mod for the 600XL provides every one of these signals except the composite chrominance. (Actually, the 800 and the XE both supply the composite chrominance signal, but the 800XL does not. Adding the composite chrominance signal to an 800XL is a simple mod that was described in ANTIC a few years ago. If you can't find the mod, send me e-mail, and I will try and find it.) COMPOSITE VIDEO (pin 4): To add composite video to your 600XL, you need the following parts, which are all available are Radio Shack: (1) 2N2222 general purpose transistor (1) 2.2K ohm resistor (1) 3K ohm resistor (1) 75 ohm resistor (1) 5 pin DIN female connector Here is the circuit diagram. It is a basic emitter follower circuit: +5V --- | | +--------------------------+ | | | | | | \ | / | 2.2K \ | / Collector | \ /-------+ | / Signal In | Base |/ o-----------+---------------| 2N2222 | |\ | \ Signal Out | \-------+--------------------> | Emitter | | | \ \ / / 3K \ \ 75 Ohms / / \ \ | | | | | | +--------------------------+ | ----- --- - I built this by just soldering the resistors and the transistor together, and did not put this on any kind of circuit board. After you have built this little circuit, you unsolder the 1st wire from the right of the RF modulator as you look at it from the front of the computer, and then solder that to the Signal In of this circuit. You then connect the Signal Out line to the 1st terminal from the right of the RF modulator, and also connect it to pin 4 of the DIN connector. You should use shielded wire when you connect the Signal Out line to pin 4 of the DIN connector. You can connect the ground wire to any major ground point on the mother board. I hooked mine to the metal case of the RF modulator. The +5V line is also available on the RF modulator. The 2nd pin from the right of the RF modulator is the +5V power supply for the RF modulator. COMPOSITE LUMINANCE OUTPUT (pin 1): To add composite luminance (black and white signal only) to the DIN connector, connect a 75 ohm resistor between the emitter of transistor Q6 and pin 1 of the DIN connector. You should use shielded wire to keep noise from appearing on the line. AUDIO OUTPUT (pin 3): To add audio output to the DIN connector, connect a wire from the 2nd terminal from the left on the RF modulator to pin 3 on the DIN connector. COMPOSITE CHROMINANCE (pin 5): I have not found a simple mod to pick up the composite chrominance signal for the DIN connector. I have not looked terribly hard, however, since it is possible to use the composite video output as a composite chrominance signal on many monitors. That is how my 600XL is hooked up to my separate composite chrominance/luminance monitor, and it looks great! GROUND (pin 2): I just connected pin 2 of the DIN connector to the metal box that the RF modulator lives in. However, you should be able to hook this pin up to any major ground point on the motherboard. I was able to mount the 5 pin DIN connector on the back of my 600XL, between the RF modulator and cartridge slot. It is a slightly tight fit, but you can fit it if you are careful.
  17. The way I did mine was with a piece of wood pressed to the inside of the case to decrease the possibility of uneven cuts. I centered the spade drill bit on the wood and used it as a guide when drilling, but plan to buy a step bit for any future mods like this since it is much more reliable.
  18. ATARI VIDEO MUSIC PLAYER Devo - The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprise - YouTube Daft Punk - Robot Rock (Official Video) - YouTube
  19. SENTINEL was only released as PAL, but you can get an NTSC reproduction of it (as I did for my collection). Still looking for NTCS Ninja Golf and NTSC Tank Command to finish off my library. I also have the ATARI 7800 32-in-1 PAL only exclusive (even though it's just the ATARI 2600 32-in-1 PAL rebadged)
  20. Had it ever since it was new. Missing battery cover, but still works... ?
  21. I just used Super Glue. I do not use this unit very often if at all - My daily is a 7800 with A/V mod. So I can't comment on how durable it is.
  22. @54018,52 I am now running DietPi with no desktop and have Atari800 immediately boot at startup. I have not messed around with anything since then because it works as I wanted to. Dedicated Atari800 PiZero that does everything I wanted. Can't recall all I did at the moment.
  23. Picked up two of them on sale @ $9.99/each from MicroCenter last week. For the price, well worth it, but I have not had a chance to play with them just yet.
  24. Tried it out on my Pi Zero W Atari800 set-up in PAL and worked flawlessly. D@mn this is a tough game. Very enjoyable and great work!
