  1. Sometimes the mylar gets a slight indentation that makes the key contact points to be permanently touching each other. If you haven't fixed the problem yet, I have found that you can get some of those stick-on paper rings that are used as reinforcers for pages in a notebook and place it over the appropriate key contact on the mylar. This creates a space between the and that takes care of the problem.
  2. You can piggyback the UAV onto the 4050 and keep the modulator function but why would you want to?
  3. I know that it has to be broken that is why I have it connected to the switch but when the modulator is removed, there is no voltage on any of the switch posts.
  4. I have been installing a dual OS EPROM in the OS socket and running a wire from pin 27 to the middle post of the channel select switch. The switch then changes the OS when the switch position is changed. One post of the channel switch shows 5 volts when the modulater is present. With the modulator removed there is no voltage on any post and the switch doesn't change the OS.
  5. I removed the RF modulator from an 800XL and I need to restore voltage to the channel select switch. What is the best way or easiest way to do this?
  6. I chose this topic because it sounded similar to my situation. I don't know if I have RF or not I don't have a TV that I could connect to. I use a monitor. I will check the monitor DIN.
  7. I know that an 800XL has composite video, the issue is that the composite video is not working on the 800XL that I am currently repairing.
  8. Thanks for the info. I will look at the transistors, I have already tried replacing the 4050 (U20). I realize now that the previous reference to the video pin was for the composite pin for the monitor cable.
  9. I have an 800XL that has no composite video. No mods. Which POKEY pin is the composite video.
  10. I found the problem, one of the inductors on the right side of the MB was bad. I believe it was L23.
  11. I have an 800XL that doesn't respond to the joystick down in Port 1. Joystick works ok in port 2. Have resoldered the joystick input connections and no change. I have no idea where to start trouble shooting. Is there a particular chip/pin that carries that joystick signal?
  12. Why doesn't someone who has a cart clone it and get the cart back on the market? I would buy one for sure. I remember seeing a cart for sale on eBay and bidding a ridiculously high bid and that bid was about half the winning bid.
  13. I know there is a spot for L12 but the parts list for the NTSC does not specify what part goes there. On my PAL machine it appears to be a ferrite bead.
  14. I bought a converter that would work with PAL & NTSC machines and has HDMI output and CVSB & S-VIDEO inputs. The PAL 600XL gives a pretty good image. Is there a quick and easy video upgrade for pal machines.
  15. I don't know why this worked but there were 3 empty spots for resistors, capacitors, etc so I installed jumper headers in those spots and when I added the jumper to L12 I got composite video. There is no part listed for L12 in the manual and L12 is not mentioned in the instructions for the Super Video 2.1 upgrade.
  16. I have almost done a successful SV2.1 on a 600XL. I say almost because I have luma and chroma but no composite. My composite appears to be about the same as chroma only. It appears that there is a trace for composite to the monitor jack. I am wondering if this is not actually the case and If I need to run a wire from somewhere to the composite connector post on the monitor jack and eliminate the aforementioned trace.
  17. OK thanks, I was under the impression that the UAV created it's own signal independent of the video circuit of the computer.
  18. I have been working on a PAL 600XL. It came with the monitor jack and all of the extra video circuits were populated. I am only getting black & white output and I was informed on another thread that this is normal for PAL machines. Will a UAV output color even on a PAL machine. I remember working on an 800XL and getting color output but I don't remember if I did a UAV on the 800XL or not.
  19. Thanks for all the info. I installed sockets for the ICs I had removed and with a working SALLY the computer is partially working. I cannot get chroma. I ran the wires to the monitor jack according to the instructions for the SuperVideo 2.1 modification. I cut the trace that grounded chroma. The Luma is very sharp. Is there another point besides the junction of resistors 123 and 124 that would give me a good chroma hook-up. Is the problem possibly because of using a PAL computer on a CRT monitor.

There are pictures of the PCB, I have already started taking out components so that I can add sockets as I trouble shoot the problem. the only socketed chip was that weird one that fits in a 14 pin socket but only has I pins. I had taken out the OS ROM and BASIC. I added a socket for the OS ROM. I will get some more work done tomorrow. Update: I may have found the problem, the 14806 is bad. I need to solder in sockets for the ICs I removed and retest. If the computer works I don't know if I will continue to add sockets or not.
  22. I just acquired a PAL 600XL and it has the video monitor jack and it appears to have most or all of the video components installed. Is this normal for a PAL or has someone modified this machine? The machine is currently not working and it is totally unsocketed so I will have to do some work to.
