Yup. Just as bad as the "stalkers". Got a couple weird ones here that like to follow me around. Disappointing that people still behave that way in this day and age.

If a lover is the opposite of a hater and a lover hates a hater, does the lover become a hater or is the lover still a lover?

Yep.  Get ready for excessively long podcasts with Nurmix going on about himself.   Generally they are like a lot of podcasts... a whole lot of yacking and and skits at the beginning, generally an interview of some type, and the later third by Paul talking about the game itself.

  8. I wish there was a no-box option for boxed homebrews on the AA store. I'd love to just buy a lot of homebrews cart only. am I the only one?

    1. Thomas Jentzsch

      Thomas Jentzsch

Usually box only is only typical for the initial run. Later on unboxed versions are available in the store.

      CPUWIZ

Yes, it has to do with investment, a run of boxes is not cheap.  All the money comes out up front and needs to be recouped.

Personally I like the boxes if I want to go First Class.  That said, I wish there were always options either way...Because I can't always afford to go First Class :)

I turn the big 5-0 this year as well!  Body has been feeling old for about 5 years now...but apart from that, my hobbies and such have me feeling like you do, somewhere around 21 :)   So is it required that we like, take out our retirement or whatever and buy sports cars, or what?

  13. At the end of today 3 Atari 2600 motherboards are getting thrown away. I can't find anyone willing to refurbish therm even after offering to pay whatever it takes. Sad day.

Why throw them away?  List them for free plus postage instead.  We have a dedicated subforum for that kind of thing:  https://atariage.com/forums/topic/282053-how-to-use-this-forum-please-read/

  14. Is there anyone in the US that does refurbishing of Atari 2600 motherboards? PM me.

I'm not aware of any personally, but, understanding and implementing good electronics theory and practices and troubleshooting can go a long way toward keeping a console working. There's little or no "Atari" specific stuff in a VCS that doesn't apply to other different electronics. You need good contacts, good capacitors, in-spec transistors, good IC sockets. Really basic stuff like that.

Unfortunately professional technician service is expensive at about a $75 bare minimum. I stopped doing this sort of thing many moons ago unless it applies to something utterly irreplaceable or as personal favor payback. It would take 1 hour just to disassemble and clean and rebuild the switches and sockets and cart slot for example. And that's with only continuity measurements. Nothing to say of making sure the whole circuit is in specification.

    2. Keatah

      Keatah

As a hobbyist who is putting their VCS on the bench for rebuild, that's different. You can spread your personal time out over however long it takes. I did that to my 486 last year and spent about 30 hours more or less off & on over the whole summer and fall. But it's now factory spec or better. And I'm about to do it to my Pentium III rig.

And a "professional" might not get you professional results unless you interview them and tear into what they say they know. It's like I bought a mobo one time that was professionally repaired, restored, and cleaned. Ohh bullshit. Battery acid still present. Sockets not buffed. Master clock crystal off. Intermittent connections still present. To some, refurbishment can literally mean anything!

      xucaen

Thank you for your response. I would be willing to pay a lot more than $75 to do the work. I've had these three 2600 motherboards for about 5 years now. I'll keep looking, but eventually I'll have to say good bye to them.

I might try New Coke again...Seems like we had it around here in the 80's a lot longer than everywhere else...Then again it was too sweet IIRC.

    3. cybercylon

      cybercylon

I hated the taste of New Coke then, and I won't like it now. It was in response to losing market share to Pepsi. It was about this time that soda companies changed over to high fructose corn syrup.

I liked WoW back then better than now. I played only with my wife and a couple of friends. We tried the Elysium Project "vanilla" and enjoyed it.

      We're looking forward to this.

  23. I am remembering an arcade game I played when I was a kid - the goal was to move your triangle from the bottom of the screen to the top of the screen while avoiding dots entering from left and right. Does this game sound familiar to anyone? Trying to remember the name of it. o_O
