I got PONG as a present before Atari too!

Just wasn't known as "edutainment" then. Didn't hear that phrase until the 90's probably. Got a Radio Shack pong unit called TV Scoreboard (came with a light gun even) the Christmas before I "finally" got an Atari 2600.

technically first video games played at home were on a Sol Terminal 20. I'm a rare breed too.

A composite modded NTSC 7800 ProSystem, which I won in 2016.

Just a plain ol' common 4 switch. And another one that I'm considering repairing...

In the cyberpunk novels, the AIs have "self-restraint" routines to keep them from getting out of hand. But the hackers in the same stories crack them so that also has to be addressed as well. Alexa's not at the same level as SHODAN of course, but best be prepared anyway.

I hadn't heard the details of that story, but it seems that it too was overblown. Can't say I'm surprised.

I am mainly using XP. I have a laptop with 10 that has ssen more use lately, and a desktop with 7 that I built six years ago but barely have broken in. Instead I'm using this 12 year old XP machine which has all the software I need.

I still keep XP around, too. For certain specialized tasks and for certain older pieces of hardware, none of the never versions will do, and I appreciate its small memory footprint.

I have around on a VM for those odds and ends useful things that never got updated. I certainly don't surf the web with it though.

Why would you need wifi and a subscription service on the Harmony cart? It doesn't make any sense. An old SD card will hold every game ever made and the Harmony Encore will play them. All the games are right there on the Harmony.

Hmmm... I wonder if such a service could be built into Stella. Would be interesting to rent new Homebrew games...

But it could also lead to some awesome exclusives. Not only that but developers would see if their demos are good enough to make into full games

The atari 2600, 5200, and 7800 consoles have A more colorful pallet, and even though it only has two channels, they have customizable instruments and can be manipulated to have four channels .

Similar can be applied to the c64.

A friend was going to buy a new Malibu -- a higher trim, but I guess the local Chevy dealer was a douche nozzle so he went to the local Buick dealer and bought a new Buick Regal instead. Same platform/size, powertrain, but it has a longer warranty, better materials, nicer ride. A mid trim Regal is a couple grand cheaper than a high end Malibu and it has the same equipment with better materials and styling. We rented a Buick on a recent vacation, and even though I am only in my mid 40's...

I enjoyed the car. It was nice. I think a lot of people avoid Buicks out of the "that's a grandma's car!" vibe, but Buick is the divison that made the Grand National and GNX which could outrun a Corvette in the 1980s.

I agree that it sounds like the solder joints need a reflow. As long as you unplug the console before you start, it should be fine. Check the pins while you're at it to make sure they're not dirty, bent, or broken.

That's often the case! no pun intended. Put it back in it fails. Take it out it passes. Reflow that solder!
