  1. Metro readers should rip them to shreds on this, although the articles tend to be relatively casual this might be the dumbest thing they've printed on the gaming scene, the gaming readership tends to similar to what you'd find on AA - dedicated gamers with experience and knowledge. There'll be plenty of people who will go "wait, isn't that just Atari-Vault?".
  2. This is the manufacturing update! "While the VCS team continues to finalize manufacturing details at the factory, our confidence and enthusiasm coming out of CES was meaningful and significant, thanks to the positive feedback from everyone who demoed the Atari VCS there. We look forward to the day backers and customers will finally have units in their hands." There are no units, there is no final product, there is not even a final design. Sure, Chinese factories can probably just "get on with it" once approved, but it still needs to be transported. From: https://www.chinaimportal.com/blog/production-lead-times-in-asia-a-complete-guide/ "As Chinese manufacturers maintain a minimum amount of materials and components, purchases must be made from the subcontractors – which in turn may need to start production on their end. This is why manufacturers in most industries hesitate to set a production time shorter than 30 days. Then again, the production time varies greatly depending on the industry, and the volume ordered. However, in most cases, the production time is set somewhere between 30 to 60 days." Production can also mean different things, including "not transported": " Depending on the arrival timing, the cargo can usually be loaded on the next container vessel within 2 to 4 days. Obviously, the transit time varies entirely depending on location. Below follows an overview for a a few routes: Shenzhen – London: 29 days Shenzhen – Hamburg: 30 days Shenzhen – Los Angeles: 19 days Shenzhen – New York: 33 days" There is also this helpful table at the end: Tooling Production 0 – 60 days General Production Time 30 – 60 days QC & Compliance Testing Quality Inspection: 3 – 5 days Compliance Testing: 7 – 20 days Shipping Inland transportation (China): 1 – 3 days Transit time (Sea): 7 – 33 days Transit time (Air): 4 – 10 days Inland transportation (Local): 1 – 2 days Total 46 – 180 days Presumably the tooling might be already done, due to the fact that a) they might have been smart enough to plan for this earlier (ok, asking a lot here) and b) its probably such a simple design that existing tools might be fine as it is. This might be quicker with slave/prison labour which is currently rampant in China and might also save Atari money, but even so you're probably still looking at two months even after final design is approved before it reaches the Americas and Europe.
  3. They also emailed today a recap of the show they didn't attend. https://medium.com/@atarivcs/ces-2020-recap-from-the-atari-vcs-meeting-suite-1ab66df4b6a "In addition to the Atari suite, the team made playable Atari VCS units available to partners for their own activations. With the help of our good friends at GAEMS, makers of premier portable game systems, there was an Atari VCS unit in the PowerA hospitality suite, and another showcased at a PR event." Further proof that they relied on other CES attenders as there never was an atari one. And from my understanding, Kingston had one "don't touch" model doing nothing. EDIT: That nobody other than Atari and Kingston took a picture of, did Kingston have guests themselves? Did nobody take a picture of the Atari? "Overall, CES was a great success for the Atari VCS team. Away from the actual show floor, Atari (like many companies) elected to take advantage of the very popular CES Venetian Tower Hospitality Suites. While the number of press meetings were limited in Atari’s suite this time around, there was no limitation on who was seeing and interacting with the Atari VCS pre-production units placed in our partners’ suites and the feedback was consistently positive from our contacts." They were never there, one journalist apparently had an interview, but I've forgotten who it was, who they worked for or if there was anything that could credibly say it actually happened. Also regarding video: This is clearly footage of a software program that is only just being developed. They've shown going into a sub menu to view pictures and video files, no direct loading to gameplay. The conspiracy continues! EDIT: Lets just be totally clear. Two weeks ago they had a menu that could scroll to another screen. This week they have managed to develop it to use photo and video apps to display files.
  4. Someone here in the UK is trying to sell a grandstand, but at least the box is good condition!
  5. Nothing can go wrong with the casino situation either! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.casino.org/news/kenya-betting-industry-ordered-to-shut-down-by-government/amp/
  6. I love atari because I love you so much for the birthday you deserve
  7. In all seriousness depending on how backers feel about any eventual final product might impact the fundraising industry itself. It was already deemed a legal grey-black area here in the UK because its deemed to be very closely related to pyramid schemes, to the point that many fundraising sites didn't operate in the UK for years until the legal loopholes had been found. It's one thing for a project to collapse completely, but it's another for a project to hobble to the end and not deliver its intended product. Wasn't 4k advertised originally? Not all the backers are going to be reading this thread, or ataris updates, the first time they might realise they are screwed is when their (exclusive backer) pink bubble wrapped ataribrick is forced through the letterbox. If enough angry customers get on board it could lead to legal changes around how fundraising sites are allowed to operate, especially with physical electrical devices such as the ataribrick. There is loads of existing laws on standards for electrical goods, it might be close enough to ensure at least civil lawsuits against atari in a post release future.
  8. With tax and shipping would have cost me $921, It would have been a nice starter set for anyone I guess, but I feel like even then it was collectively more than its individual games. Not too sad that I wasn't able to bid, but still crying inside how hard its going to be to get my last 3, of which that order had 2 of them ?
  9. I think someone else has already quoted the major videos atari has produced that were faked, wrong or whatever since you posted this. Also, we wouldn't expect Sony to show their hardware when they started comparing PS5 capabilities with the PS4, because there was genuine belief what was being shown was real. Now atari has been caught multiple times in lies, we would expect a step by step proof to say for sure what we'd be getting was what was intended. It's been a very long time now since a video was produced by atari that wasn't shakey cam, with words like "OK" "go" "yo" signifying start or end of a video. I produced better videos at school for drama lessons back before you had computers to edit it. None of it looks professional. You can be in a hotel room and get decent video with background noise added into the editing. Could have been a great chance to get their "guests" to do reaction videos - the lack of which must be really telling at this point that maybe.. Maybe nobody went into to atari hotel room, maybe nobody was invited, or maybe nobody took the invite... I think a lot of us would actually seriously consider the ataribox, we just need something of it to go right. Price point and capability is probably the biggest issue for me right now, secondary is a lack of exclusive games / shop, there is literally nothing I can't get on anything else. A low level pc connected to my pc might be a great way of me going through my steam library of all the indie games I've picked up through the years, but I'm still going to have to install and see if it loads or not...
  10. It's too hard not to compare it with another project in progress of a very similarly intended device, God knows I've done it in this thread myself once or twice. The ataribox doesn't have to do much, but it has to do at least one of the following to be interesting: A) a culture around it that is appealing - led by marketing or behind the scenes viewpoints. Not present. B) a different way of controlling content. We have a standard Gamepad, mouse and keyboard support and a one button joystick which is supposed to come with a light feature (but probably not a gameplay element - which could have made it unique) C) anything exclusive, at all. As others are commenting, there isn't even a guarantee that ataris own games will run on it, let alone anything being exclusive! D) a hole in the market. There has to be something, anything, usually one or more of the above points, but it could be price point, size, anything. A device that can play 5-10 year old games on low to mid settings is not great for the price that is being sold at. I don't think anyone is going to buy the ataribox because they want to play pc games but couldn't afford a regular pc. Believe it or not I did want the ataribox to be worth something, anything, and occasionally even I dared to think that I might be up for buying one at some point. But right now? Completely useless. Instead I've bought the dlc for atari vault because code mystics are competent and I would love more of their stuff.
  11. As far as I know: Nobody has ever done a homebrew for the "system". This does bring the interesting potential of being able to develop one though... presumably it has always been possible, but how many people would have made their own circuits for a PC 50x specifically? I think while other systems have their fans, and curious retro developers, TheProgrammerIncarnate is one of possibly only two or three people who have worked on anything to do with it post release. I know someone who has modded one for composite output - using the same circuitry as they would any other pong machine, but this is probably the only other project beside that.
  12. This guy was so pumped for Asteroid and Yar's Revenge that he just had to make a taco in the middle of the night! Then he was exhausted from his excitement that he had to take a nap. Brand loyalty right there. Have you broke into a taco bell today? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-51056092/burglar-cooks-snack-in-taco-bell-then-falls-asleep
  13. So we finally get some footage of a game playing. The first one awkwardly goes through Windows 10 to get the menu before gameplay, the second has some actual gameplay with a camera that probably came out sometime in the late 20th century, or at least someone who has never used one before in their life. We still have mysterious wires leading to places we can't see, and potentially fake wires being moved to pretend it's real. The angle of the two videos is completely different meaning we can't even confirm that was the same session or not. Not only that, but ataris own os seems to contain nothing more than a menu that leads to nowhere other than misspelt game names - that a standard Windows OS that was probably downloaded for free and not on a paid license is probably the only thing that works but only because its been released already by someone competent. Either A) it's all still a load of bull poop and it's all fake and there is a pc hidden away B) it actually is real but it's so problematic that cloak and shadows are still having to be used to show that anything works.
  14. Person did reply in the end, they've had another sale go bad transporting to the middle east so they are holding off shipping abroad at the moment, kind of get it so I don't blame them for keeping it US only. Good luck everyone else. @atari2600land big shame about that no luck after cleaning contacts I assume? My spitfire game had some extremely weird glitches which has now magically fixed itself.. Maybe it can still be salvaged somehow.
  15. To make it worse I think there is an 'Atali' actually at CES with a booth. The thing that makes me laugh the most is they've gone to the trouble of going to CES (can we confirm it's actually a hotel near CES or is it just a random hotel somewhere else?), gone to the trouble of showing it on a screen in a box, gone to the trouble of showing off the ui when it turns on. But still hasn't shown a game working on it. There was clearly an opportunity to finally prove all the nay sayers wrong and load up a game, even if all it did was open up Stella emulator. Instead all we see is a menu system most of us could have coded ourselves in less than a week. As far as I'm concerned there is still no proof the ataribox / atari vcs actually exists, it remains an atari brick.
  16. Thanks for the offer I think really I need to watch my spending though, so it's a good excuse to leave it and let someone else complete their collection!
  17. I asked if they would ship to UK. Typical non response and an edit that seems to confirm they won't. Sigh. Their loss.
  18. I'd be surprised if any of this is worth anything, so ultimately there is still a cost XD but thanks for saying so I just need more space on my shelves for console games!
  19. As a story concept make the sidekick a Llamacorn.
  20. No I don't think that is just you, though he does do a good job of explaining some concepts, I do believe he glossed over some details which if you've programmed in anything else before you might not even notice. I've got through the whole thing now, I think it abruptly ends as there is no videos directly on missiles specifically but a lot of the concepts are explained by that point. I'm glad I paid for it, its been incredibly helpful.
  21. * After postage, though I'll also take collection from Cheshire UK. I'm going to offer this in various places, including charging but wanted to give anyone with a particular interest here a chance. I usually avoid charging for boxes / bubble wrap when I can too by using what I've already got, and obviously bare in mind it might not be worth it to post/ship outside the UK. Assume any one time use keys to be used, but that all key codes is supplied and disks will spin in your drive (whether the installed game will work or not, I can't guarantee!). There is nearly 100 games here so forgive me for not offering a huge amount of information but I will answer any questions if they come in, and I will naturally note down any that is taken. I will double check contents before confirming any offers so you know what you are getting if there is any interest. I have not checked any of these to see if there is anything "valuable" but I seriously doubt it. This is essentially my PC collection that can now be found on Steam, or doubles I picked up.
  22. Fellow "I learnt assembly on udemy" here! Good luck with your projects!
  23. Congratulations on all the hard work you've done on this, particularly the preservation of pc 50x chips that has been left virtually untouched in the emulation scene. Will all of these end up on the mister homepage once complete? I'm half tempted to get one myself now you are starting to transfer it over to this, looking good!
  24. Made even more amusing by the fact I'm not vegan
