  1. I've been jamming it on the PC since the early 90's, but only recently (about a year ago) started DLing Mods and Wads for it, in any appreciable amount. I've been blown away by the plethora of awesomeness available for it. The Aliens TC was re-done in 2017 and is amazing now, as an example. I'm playing on an older version of GZdoom because I have old drivers for my 88GT. One day I'll upgrade so I can play the newer mods like the latest Wolfenstein mods. Complex Doom is one of my favorite mods, along with Hard Doom, Beautiful Doom, (obviously) Brutal Doom, and one of the most perverse has to be Project Brutality. One day I'll make a host of vids showcasing the Wads and Mods I've DLed and how I have them organized. To this day, it's my favorite FPS, and always will be now that I have a lifetimes worth of experiences for it. I'll get some screenshots of my current Folders up in a few weeks. Does anyone here still play it? Have any awesome Mods or Wads to suggest?
  2. I started this on the PS4 last week and have been in love with it... already put around 40 hours into a large world. I enjoy how it focuses less on building than Minecraft, and more on Combat. The Bosses are awesome, graphics are sweet (although I wish I could zoom in and out), music is amazing, and the possibilities are intriguing. I have a full set of Ancient Shadow Armor and a Legendary Ice Sword: I've killed the Eye of Cthlu (somethin', don't remember how to spell it) and the big worm boss, can't remember his name. Skeletron is next on my hit list, then I'll be able to traverse the Dungeon, finally. I don't think it's better or worse than Minecraft, it is definitely an awesome companion to it. Starbound should be an awesome 3rd companion to make my "building" games a complete trilogy of awesomeness, depending on mood. I'll be picking that up once it has been out on the PS4 for a couple years and has a 'complete' edition available for $20 sealed. Anyone else playing? Thoughts?
  3. That mod sounds cool... have you heard about Fallout Miami? It looks incredible!!!
  4. So, do we call this Doom 5 or is this an Expansion for Doom 4? I saw how ID mentioned this is IDTech 7, which I find cute considering it looks identical to IDTech 6.
  5. "Bethesda’s letter claims that Hupp’s sale is not protected by the First Sale Doctrine, because he is not selling the game in its original form, which would include a warranty." Horseshit, Bethesda: prove it in court and set a precedent... good luck. Not only do they not offer a Warranty, they can't decide what someone does with their own property. The Seller should have told them to get bent.
  6. How likely is it that Analogue will make this their next system? Is anyone here on the board interested and willing to pay $2-250 including the $40 s/h, for a unit?
  7. RF? I'd rather let the sharks eat me.
  8. 1. Super Metroid 2. The Legend of Zelda Both played on the Super NT on a 54" Panasonic Plasma tv. Both experiences were pure bliss, and it was the first time I'd played either of them from start to finish.
  9. I absolutely agree 10 fold! The increase in clarity for the textures and effects is unbelievable and I can't understand how I used to think the old blurry look was so awesome. I mean, it is what it is... and I'll still play Composite on my old 27" Trinitron, sitting up close... because it works, but at this point, I want an FPGA system for ALL the old systems, because I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment, "sharp crisp look where the intended art was clean and not hidden behind the limits of pre-HD screens". True, that would look good too. I play my PC on a 17" iMag sitting 1-2' away and it looks as HD as anything available, so trust me... I know how good a CRT can look. That's why I game on a 4:3 CRT monitor for my PC Gaming. That doesn't help me though because the only system I have that natively kicks out an RGB resolution is the Genny... everything else would have to be modified. I prefer to have Analogue or a similar company make an FPGA system with HDMI out, for all the old systems, from the NES up to the N64. I'm not sure what the Saturn and Dreamcast output, but I'm sure I'd have to mod something... besides, the MAIN advantage of having the FPGA based system, is that I can customize the output/size to match my screen... NONE of the old systems will do that natively, which is why I made the comparison I made. You didn't take that into account though, did ya... I advise you to play it on a full screen to get the best impression/experience. I definitely will someday, as well as the two Gameboy Color games! Thanks for the suggestion.
  10. Castlevania for me: the music and basic concept do it for me everytime. I'm still stuck on the Reaper as an adult. As a kid I couldn't beat Frankensteins' Monster, so I've progressed a little bit. I love the entire series and haven't played a Castlevania game that I didn't enjoy. They all feel special in their own right. The most graphically impressive iteration would be the Playstation 1 game, can't remember what... oh yeah, Symphony of the Night. One of these days I'll go through that one. I'm stuck on the first iteration for the GBA, most impressive and I love the Metroidvania aspect of it.
  11. I have a 27" Sony Trinitron that I keep for the old systems. I have a 17" iMag for my PC, that I play an 88GT Q6600 on in 720P: I sit about 2 feet away and it looks as HD as 4k on a big screen.
  12. I'm not sure I understand your question. If it's a Collecting one, meaning being disinterested in collecting... still not sure what you mean by your post. As for that: I am beyond thrilled at these new FPGA based systems, ala the Super NT and the AVS for example. Them combined with Flashcarts have expanded my Libraries to untold new adventures and I can't be thankful enough. Showing off ones Collection is attention whoring imo. Playing Games is what Gamers do in the end. Ebegging for money on a Social Media page, as so many do these days, is even worse than showing off ones Collection, and for that reason... the majority of Youtube Retro Channels interest me not.
  13. Cool Thread! Don't some of the Master System games require the Master System to function properly? I wouldn't know as I haven't experienced very much of the Library yet. As for having systems that have backwards compatibility... I disagree and prefer to play them on their unique and respective systems for optimal compatibility, sound, graphics, and overall experience. As for some systems having "better ports", I agree and disagree... as I prefer to have both for their unique experiences if I enjoy the game enough otherwise I'll own the optimal port. Street Fighter II for both the Genny and SNES for example... both are worth having in my opinion.
  14. Thanks for checking it out. I feel like most gamers don't have the same, "I feel clueless, where do I go" moments that I usually experience... feels good knowing someone else shares my sentiment. Star Fox is badass for what it is, but imo: it feels really dated with the frame rate issues. It's a pleasure in some respects, but still painful to force myself through the poor framerates. It runs really well on the Super NT even though that custom board isn't 'fully supported' yet. Super Metroid however... wow, what a game. It touched me like no other game has (I'll do a review on it in the future), again played on the Super NT in glorious 1080p Widescreen. I needed a walkthrough a couple times, but felt silly after looking, because it was more or less easy to figure out: I just became a little impatient and wanted to continue the amazing experience. With regard to the SNES Classic Mini: I wouldn't recommend it. As an ultra simple way to play some SNES, I'd recommend it, but if you care about graphics and have the money: the Super NT from Analogue is the way to go... it's a superior experience hands down. There are graphical and sound artifacts on the SNES Classic Mini that imo, are unacceptable whereas there are only minor pop sound issues on the Super NT. The Super NT also has pixel perfect graphics, as well as myriad options on how to render the software. I'll be doing a review on both the Super NT and AVS consoles in the near future: they are hands down, out of this world, fantastic for playing their respective libraries on a current widescreen resolution.
  15. I recently finished The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past. It was an amazing roller coaster ride from start to finish. Even though I had to resort to walkthroughs on a constant basis, it was still a rewarding experience in top form. Overall, the difficulty was minimal, but the fun factor was extremely high and full of brilliant events. It had bright moments and it had dark moments. It had joy and it had despair. The story was solid, the graphics were amazing, and the gameplay mechanics were spot on. I think it is a perfect video game in every sense, equally as impressive as Super Metroid. Having only beaten the original Legend of Zelda when I was a kid, this is my second Zelda game to complete. Ocarina of Time for the N64 is next on my Zelda agenda. I hope the company Analogue makes an N64 in the same vein as the Super NT. I completed this and Super Metroid this year; two games that, as a Gamer, should be enjoyed by all who enjoy the 8 and 16 Bit era. That should go without saying, but I'm not sure why I waited this long to enjoy these two amazing Classic Masterpieces. They are two of the best video games I've ever played, in all respects. Playing them on a 54" Panasonic Plasma screen, with a Super NT in 1080p, rendered in fullscreen, with all the brilliant color and crispness afforded by that technology, is unmatched by any other setup I've witnessed. CRT setups don't even come close... I never thought I'd admit that. I always held dear to the idea that nothing could surpass playing these old games on a quality CRT in Composite, but now that I've seen what can be done with these newer FPGA based systems in HDMI; I am a firm believer that old games when properly rendered in a widescreen resolution, can be stunning and without comprimises. 2018 is an exciting time to be experiencing the 8 and 16 Bit era of games and I'm loving every minute of it!
  16. (subject to change... obviously ) 1. Tetris 2. Castlevania 3. Metroid 4. The Legend of Zelda 5. Mike Tyson's Punchout 6. Super Mario Bros. 3 7. Mega Man 2 8. Ninja Gaiden 9. Mach Rider 10. Galaga
  17. I'm still clueless when it comes to most games, but my 'Twitch' skill has improved significantly since I was a kid. I can get much further in Shooters and Platformers than I could back in the day. My FPS skills have only improved since the Wolfenstein days: I play a ton of Doom on PC, which has maintained my high level of skill. You shouldn't care about anyone labeling you, that's silly.
  18. I recently dove in with the GOTYE on the PS4 and am blown away. I'm a huge fan of the entire series, each for their own unique pros. I never completed 1 or 2, but had a blast with 1, and the amount of Role Playing available, was incredible. I adore 3 and New Vegas as they're two of my favorite games of all time. 4 has completely surprised me with the Building mechanic, I love it... when it's not glitching that is. I really like that there is no limit to the Leveling, and that a player can eventually (around 260-280) max every Stat and Perk: I think that was a brilliant design choice, although I appreciate that 3 and NV (vanilla that is) make the player think harder on what to level up, and that one can't max their Stats and Perks if the 'wrong' choices are made when leveling. The Gun play is fantastic and is definitely a step up from 3 (which I played on the PS3), even though I quite enjoy the clunky feeling of 3 and NV, as well as the slightly improved VATs mechanic. I like how the VATs mechanic has been changed in 4, to simply slow time instead of full on pausing, like it did in 3 and NV. The possibilities with the modding of weapons and armor seems endless to me, and I don't imagine it'll ever get old seeking more and more junk to fulfill my modding needs. The Music seems to be pretty much the same thing as 3 and NV, but some of it reminds me of 1 for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. Sound is on point. I've read lots of folks being unimpressed with the Graphics: I disagree entirely and think that Bethesda did a marvelous job increasing the detail, and adding tons of color to the new world. My main complaint is the size of the map... it feels much smaller than 3 and NV, and I really don't understand why Bethesda made 25% of the map water in the SE section. The map 'makes me feel' like I have tons to do, which is a prerequisite for an Open World Sandbox RPG, and I'm sure there are myriad locations to discover and plunder like in the previous games; so I'm fine with that. What are your thoughts? I'm new to the board, so if this topic has been done to death, and you feel obliged: please link me to a previous thread/s where this was discussed. Thanks in advance.
  19. I concur. I despise Blizzard for this very reason and it's why I still haven't played StarCraft II. I have Diablo III for Console, but it shouldn't be like that. One day I hope I can mod StarCraft II to be played Offline and independent of Blizzards' Totalitarian ways. There is and has never been a valid reason to tie a Single Player game to an online authentication process. To claim, it's to combat Piracy and help the Developers make their money, is asinine to say the least.
  20. HappyConsoleGamer does wicked reviews. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2vUKoTGIwNYq4LO0YWKPIg Spida1a has the best Turbo Grafx 16 reviews imo. https://www.youtube.com/user/spida1a
