  1. I was on the fence about watching Lupin the III for a while (I watched out of context clips of the dub, which were hilarious). I finally decided to watch it after Classicgamer74's video on Lupin the III games, and I'm currently loving it. I started with part 2 and I'm currently on the one where they go to Egypt so I'm not too far in, but it has to be my second favorite anime next to Pop Team Epic. I'm watching the dub, and I think they added some comedy in it, but I'm okay with that since I don't take anime seriously.

  2. Why do people pronounce MK Raiden as Rayden but pronounce the shmup as Rai-den (which is the correct way to say Raiden I think)? English is weird.

      The Usotsuki

The MK Raiden/Rayden is pronounced as "Rayden" by the various voice-overs, kind-of forcing things.  (But Japanese people will say it as proper Japanese nonetheless; that comes up once in Hi Score Girl.)

It should honestly be Ry-den for both, but eh.

I wouldn't go to mortal kombat  for authentic, well anything, Shaolin monks are Chinese pacifists, Raiden is a shinto god, everything is wacky, play mk for punching off peoples skulls, not learning about Asian cultures and language

I wonder how Data says Raiden?

  3. TIL: Atari made a fighting game called "Boxer" in 1978, but it was never released. It was also the inspiration for Activision's "Boxing". I believe it's dumped now so anyone can play it.

I see that there already is a Genghis Grill in Oklahoma City. They market themselves as "much more than your ordinary Chinese Food or Mongolian BBQ restaurant", however that is good or bad.

I thought that Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, the Dakotas, and Nevada were vying for that title.

@SlidellMan Wyoming is just a big volcano (or doesn't exist, there's no proof of it's existence), Colorado is just a big bong, Montana has a funny face, North Dakotans are Canadians that didn't get there in time South Dakotans are North Dakotans that didn't get there in time, and Nevada is a big casino with deserts surrounding it (also it's Na-Vah-Da, not Knee-Vaa-Da!).

  9. Okay, so I'm doing some late-night shaving (because it's like laundry, you always do it at night), and halfway through my electric razor dies. Now I have to stay up longer than I anticipated so I can fully shave my face.

  10. Shot in the dark question, but has anyone here worked at Columbus, Ohio Public Access in the late '90s to early '00s? I've stumbled across a really weird kids show I'd like to know more about. Why am I asking this here? Well, besides YouTube and Twitch, this the only social media platform im on and I'd assume that at least someone may have done technical stuff for their public access channel.

  11. I have played Jump Rope Challenge for a week now, and I can now flex my calves.

  12. Kelibaca (I'm not sure on what your forum name is) on the AA discord exposed me to the Gamecenter CX 24/7 live stream and I've done nothing but watch it and play video games for like 3 days now.

  15. I think, console wise, I'm done collecting (apart from two systems, which are pretty rare so I'm not really optimistic I'll find them). Now it's on to getting games!

IMHO jazz is listening. In composition it's about listening to the movement in the harmony and melody, and how they support each other.  In performance it's about listening and reacting to the other musicians in the band.  In improvisation it's about listening to where things are going, and what each musician is doing, and how you support that together.  It's hard to separate jazz from improvisation - that's been a fundamental aspect of it since its inception.  Prog and metal don't typically have as much of an improvisation component, but of course anything can be done.  Some bands like Umphrey's McGhee have some heavier songs and certainly improvise, but it's more of a rock context than jazz.  Improv alone doesn't make something jazz, nor does more complex harmony.

  17. You know, I find it fascinating that Sega made both the first 3D fighting game and the first fighting game in general.

Activision Boxing is certainly one of the first fighting games, but it's not THE first fighting game. https://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8099

  18. Allergy update: I woke up with phlegm in my throat and my face still feels puffed up, but the weezing is gone!

    1. joeatari1

      joeatari1

If I don't have my allergy shots regularly my throat closes up and my uvula swells up.  So basically I can't breathe.  It's fun.

  19. Is it just me or does the PS5 controller look like a step back from the PS4 controller?

I sympathize.  I have year round allergies but my peak is ragweed season from August through October.  I get serum shots every other week and use Flonase.  Most of the pills are like sugar pills to me, they do practically nothing.

    3. Magmavision2000

      Magmavision2000

@GoldLeader @joeatari1 I too have year-round allergies, but yesterday and today my allergies have been going against the Geneva Convention. My entire face feels pressurized, and I've been wheezing like I've ran 100 miles.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I used to get custom Serum Shots every 2 weeks (I think it was)...I could never tell if anything was getting better or worse.  Gave up the shots long ago.  Nowadays I do kind of like Zyrtec (or generic equivalents),...Most pills do nothing or very little (Claritin, I could eat like PEZ, for instance and it does absolutely nothing,   less than a sugar pill)...People tell me to try Flonase, but I've never known a nasal spray to do anything...

  21. I now have an irrational hatred towards Christmas thanks to AVGN: Adventures.

  22. Do you remember back in November when Papa John said "The day of reckoning will come" and we all laughed at him? Well it's 2020 and the day of reckoning is here and Big Papa John isn't going to help us. We have to eat 40 Papa John's™ pizzas in 30 days and then maybe we'll survive the day of reckoning.

  23. Here's a thought, think about all the classical compositions that are permanently lost. Or don't.

    1. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

I thought I read years ago that Bach was almost a forgotten composer entirely.  Can you imagine?

    2. carlsson

      carlsson

The first recorded use of the term "classical music" dates to Oxford English Dictionary, c:a 1829. It was meant to canonize the golden age between Bach and Beethoven. While most orchestras probably prioritized playing the latest, contemporary compositions (just like today's popular music tends to dominate the total music consumption), apparently Bach wasn't entirely forgotten by then or otherwise the term would not cover music eras back to his time.

But yes, a lot of music has been lost, in particular those composed by other people than white, middle aged men. For instance many women apparently were just as competent as male colleagues but didn't get performed or recognized as much. While Wikipedia lists ~400 female composers born between 2300 BC and 1875 AD, I imagine a lot of digging has happened in the past 50 years and many probably only small fragments of their production are known.

  24. Disney, cancel this High Republic crap and give us what we really want! Boss Nass: A Star Wars Story!

      Prosystemsearch

I'd rather they fire Pablo Hildago and Kathleen Kennedy, and have their successors along with Leeland Che go and de-canonize the Lore-breaking sequel Trilogy, Galaxy of Adventure, Resistance, and bring back the Tiered canon system.
