The best add-on peripheral I've found is Songbird's rapid fire controllers, great for Tempest and Raiden, if you can get one. Some of my favorite games include Iron Soldier, Defender 2000 and Hyperforce. Good luck Eric
  2. Sure, I know exactly who you mean. The company is sort of revealed in the game list, but said individual approached me on behalf of this company for an auction I had up, Double Dragon for 7800. I told him it was against eBay rules to deal outside eBay once the auction was posted, but if he wanted to bid I might make a deal if he was the winner. He never bid. Eric

I like side scrolling shooters, so Trevor McFur appealed to me, even if 16bit systems could do the same thing. And while CyberMorph isn't like the 3d games that were soon to follow (for various systems), it was new and pretty neat, albiet a little slow. Eric
  4. quote: Originally posted by AtariDude: why would someone go out and purchase an Atari 2600 machine when for about the same cost, they can obtain an Atari 7800 system and get access to more games. Of course there is the nostalgia thing -- you could very well be nostaligic for the "woodie". Also a few games the 7800 won't play, as well as the Supercharger that won't work with most 7800s. But I personally prefer the 7800. I never owned any version of the 2600, and I have a 7800 that works with the supercharger. Oh yeah, for the insane collectors, there is the completeness angle. Can't consider my collection complete until I have one of each (heavy, woodie, darth, 4 switch, telegames, both jr's, etc.) Eric

    Vectrex

quote: Originally posted by sway3: That's true. I was just bragging about my eBay successes. I only have one game, so if any one is trading, let me know. What do you have to trade? I pretty much have everything for the Vectrex, 7800, Jaguar and Lynx but I'm still collecting other systems. I have 20 or so extra Vectrex games right now, i.e. most of them.

    Vectrex

quote: Originally posted by Nateo: Hey, how rare are these things? Just wondering. I've never seen one in the wild either. On eBay they typically go for closer to $100. To get the best deal there look for the ones that come with good stuff, like an extra joystick or lightpen, or some of the rarer games like Poll Position. I really like the Vectrex because there is just something about the sharp, high contrast screen and smooth movements that can't be emulated. And some of the games are really good. My favorites include Solar Quest, Bedlam and Scramble. Ripoff is fun but a bit frustrating when it gets harder. The 3D glasses are insanely cool but there's only 3 games for them, and they will set you back quite a bit. But the 3D games are actually in color. I'm actually getting my extra one ready to sell on eBay with a bunch of games. Look for me...

  8. quote: Originally posted by moycon: Quest for Quintanas Poo Ok, this isn't a video game, but it sort of reminds me... Being a parent, this is a real (albiet recalled) toy: "Baby's First Pooh". I don't know what anyone else thinks when they see this, but I would have thought it should be green. Anyway...
  9. quote: Originally posted by tomyou: So what is everyones best and most inexpensive finds. I got a Crazy Climber at a thrift store for .25 that would probably be my best and the most I paid for a game was probably $90 for Bern Bears. What about the rest of you? Believe it or not, two bests from eBay: 1) Bought lot of 2 nonworking Atari 5200s for $20 (+$25 shipping), scored 3 working Wico sticks and 2 Wico keypads 2) Bought Loopz proto for Lynx for, I dunno, maybe $45, on arrival it turns out the seller threw in another extra, a Marlboro Go Worst deal, probably a 2600 Jr short rainbow for $35, didn't get around to testing it for weeks, turned out to be DOA. 10. quote: Originally posted by Jun Kazama: $%!@&* my switch box broke does any one have one they could sell me or atleast have an idea of where i could get one While Radio Shack does have the old style switchboxes, they have better solutions as well. My favorite is a 3 way coax switch box and an RCA-Coax adapter -- this has much less signal loss than the old style switches, and works much better with the weaker 7800 signals. Eric
  11. quote: Originally posted by woodyi76: I just got a atari 5200 (the 4 port one) I plugged the thing in and I thought it would be the correct way. The t.v. still works but when I turn the game on all I get is a black screen? All the wires are in tight. Could somebody tell me what's wrong. Do you get a power light? I know that is a basic tech support question, but the 5200 is designed so that if it doesn't think a cart is inserted, the power will not be turned on.
  12. I could be interested...what systems do you collect? I have some nice Lynx and Vectrex things to trade, plus a few common 7800 carts. Eric
  13. quote: Originally posted by Cassidy: I think the goal is for non collectors to have substantive proof you have lost your mind for spending that much money. I'd drink to that, if I could afford it. And I do play my rare games (Lynx Loopz, anyone?), but not the shrinkwrapped ones. E
  14. I think the COD thing will be a problem for most people. I'm getting ready to put a Lynx up on eBay, and I really don't want to mess with COD. If they have a credit card Paypal is good, and offers some protection to the buyer. You might try www.goatari.com, they offer a warantee and have a long, reputable history. EMR
  15. I never did get straight, can you play European-release Jaguar cartridge games on an American Jaguar? How about CD games? Thanks, EMR
  16. Good job, they are all good games except maybe the notorious Checkered Flag.
  17. quote: Originally posted by liveinabin: right, there are a couple going real cheap on ebay tomorrow, I may well snap one up Make sure you get one with a working power supply -- you cannot get those at Radio Shack, thanks to the special plug on the unit. Once you get it, the cheap common games like Xevious, Galaga, Joust, Asteroids, Poll Position and Centipede are all excellent. I'm sure any number of people (including me) have a Poll Position or 3 they could spare. EMR
  18. I'm not willing to part with my Title Match box, but I don't suppose that you collect Vectrex? I have very nice Poll Position and Polar Rescue carts and overlays, and I've been looking to pick up an Alien Brigade boxed, NTSC for a friend...
  19. quote: Originally posted by The Helper: What is a good free program to use to rip it? If you want a really fast download and source code to boot, you can go to Tucows and get akrip. If you know C, the source code is pretty interesting. This is a fast download because it is a command line program.
  20. I have a Rampage up on eBay now, as well as a Ballblazer (sealed, so I don't know the end label color). Shoulda checked the trade board last week, I put 'em up there before eBay. EMR
  21. quote: Originally posted by StellasGhost: How about finding out who coded the 8 bit version and we'll raise 1 million spacebucks to pay him to make a 4 bit version?? Actually if I remember correctly the person who wrote it was a teenager at the time, and Atari paid him a zillion real bucks in royalties. I remember being a preteen drooling over the prospect of writing my own APX game for royalties and the coveted APX Star Award, but I always seemed to be behind in the age/development equipment budget curve. Of course, in the end I did get an APX Star Award trophy, from eBay. EMR
  22. quote: Originally posted by Junie: What messenger does everyone else here use? I personally am not a big chatter or anything, but I am just wondering. AOL, because they have a nice Linux client.
  23. I love best/worst lists. Anyway, if you're going to bring 300 lbs of fun home in the form of a coin-op, for my space and money it has to be a color vector game. While I would love a Space Duel or Major Havoc, I would have to go with the one I already own, Black Widow. The funny thing is, kids from my neighborhood come over and would rather play that then the Dreamcast or PS2. That machine is older than most of the kids. EMR
  24. I'd have to go with Defender 2000, it's the reason the Jaguar is still hooked up. Speaking of hooked up, looks like the PS2 is headed for the basement this Thanksgiving to be replaced by the Xbox in the den. I never really liked that thing (the PS2, I mean), should have unloaded it on eBay the first day while I had the chance. All of which is ironic since I'm contracting on a PS2 project. EMR
  25. Since my wife gave birth to my kids (triplets!) my collecting budget has been somewhat restrained, as has my collecting space. Therefore I've gathered together my extras and I'd like to see what I can trade for before they go up on eBay. I have the following available: 7800: new Ballblazer, F18 Hornet, Desert Falcon, Double Dragon, Ace of Aces; complete Commando, Donkey Kong Jr, Crossbow, Hat Trick; loose Food Fight, Mario Bros, Rampage, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Centipede, Asteroids, Joust, Ms Pacman, Touchdown Football, boatload of Poll Position II's 2600: loose Super Challenge Football, Poll Position, Yars Revenge Jaguar: new Hoverstrike, complete Supercross 3D 5200: complete Countermeasure; loose Defender, Qix x 2, Super Breakout, Football, Galaxian, Pacman x 4 Lynx: new Cyberball, Basketbrawl x 2; loose Paperboy, CA Games x 2, Kung Food, Pit Fighter, Batman Returns; Lynx 2 console + PSU Vectrex: loose w/screen Poll Position, Polar Rescue I'm also getting ready to unload a 5200 system with about 20 games, one good 5200 joystick, one good Wico stick, and one not so good Wico keypad. Final system to unload: Vecrex with good controller, 20-ish games. Oh, also, 2 broken 5200 consoles to anyone who wants to pay the shipping. Both are 4 port, one doesn't power up, the other always gets a solid green screen. I'm interested in: 7800 High Score Cart, diagnostic cart; new Songbird Lynx titles or Soccer Kid; Vectrex Omega Race, various Vectrex boxes and instructions; the rarer 5200 stuff including Zaxxon, Meteorites, Masterplay, diagnostic cart; EPROM programmer. And of course all protos are welcome (although I have most of the Lynx protos) Eric
