  2. Finally did a play through. It’s pretty good.

It feels very retro. It’s short, but you get to unlock(for free!) new ships by just playing the game. There’s enough variety that you’ll have a ship type that works to your play style. I seem to like the andro line the most so far.

From what I have seen, people generally consider Final 2 to be much better than Final and generally say it is as good as Delta, which some people consider to be the best R-Type game. I should probably finally play that game beyond the first 30~60 seconds or so...

Oh, now that I read your thing again, you're looking for a copy of Final? Uh... I think the PAL version is cheap on ebay. NTSC-U version is about double the price of the PAL version, but still not bad. NTSC-J is the most expensive, to my surprise... I bought a basically brand-new copy of the Japanese version from a friend who takes excellent care of his games about 1.5 years ago or so for 2000 yen, I think. ebay prices are getting really bad recently.

I largely stopped playing shooters around the PS1 era. I stopped playing most games around the PS1 era as I hated early 3D. I didn't really come back into gaming until the Xbox and ignored the PS2. I got the ones I wanted them sold them a few years ago. Now I want them back lol.

Yea, I've been trying to replace the PS2 Final. I just found a Slipheed on PS2. They seem to go for about 20-35 on ebay. I don't really care about CIB, I just want the case/art and disc.

They shipped mine on the 15th surprisingly to my happiness through Fedex.  UPS is the devil as far as packages going to this address.  At a minimum at least a corner or whole side gets smooshed in some, even money a hole gets blown into it too.  I figured I'd risk it, paid off. :D

I got mine today. Night and day difference. I’m even keeping the box...even the box is nice.

Now I want them all the consoles to replace my stuff lol.

I had to buy my wife an original PeachesNCream Barbie because my little girls ripped the head off of her childhood one and destroyed all hope of reattachment. I decided that I needed a better motherboard for my 8700k with better VRMs so I could overclock to atleast 5GHZ with my Noctua Cpu cooler.

This is the first motherboard I’ve purchased that doesn’t have some kind of built in Video output solution. Now if they could just eliminate USB 2.0 my motherboard dreams would be complete.

I buy the wife all the figuarts zero and chouette Sailor Moon figures. Only to find out now 1 of them is nearly 1k and another 500....and I thought retro gaming was expensive.

Yeah, I got that one as well. I think they sent that out to everyone who met some sort of requirement. Maybe it was for their general mailing list that they never use or maybe it was sent to everyone that had bought something from them previously.

Go back to the email they sent and click on "subscription preferences". I'm assuming if they aren't selected you are on individual notifications.

  7. I'm iffy on it.

I don't like it as much as I like SotN. I don't like the whole food/monster quest/find the missing person stuff nor how cryptic a lot of stuff is. My pro did have slow down at the Towers, but only on the return, and some glitches. After the horrid last boss fight I lost interest in replaying it.

I'm answering the question of "Death of Consoles" by watching how my 17 year old lad has gamed over the last 10 years.

PC (playing BF2 as a 7-8 year old), then PS3.  Mame on and off in between (as I was building Mame cabinets.  So emulation via PC) .... Wii, then back to PC (FPS) .... PS4  and then his Own Gaming PC.  Dabbles back in the PS3 .... and NOW .... back to PS4 in the last 2 months.

All his mates have gone back to PS4, so he's followed.  I asked why.  He said just fed up with hackers, patch problems, normal gaming PC issues.  The PS4 just felt like, turn on ... play with mates .. turn off.  He actually was going to get a Switch for his 17th last week, but changed his mind at the last minute.  Wants to wait for PS5 and it's backwards compatibility with the PS4.

Make of that as you wish.

In relation to the PS5.  As it's now verified as PS4 backward compat .. the rumors of PS3 and PS2, and even PS1  backwards compat are rearing it's head.  Such a console would cater for the current gen gamers and the older gen.  A big plus for consoles still holding strong?

    Bingo.

This is why consoles still exist and have continued to exist.

A console is largely a closed environment that's controlled by the developer. That can be Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and formerly Sega. It's much easier to just have a game, insert the game then play for a bit. Sure, they're are hackers/modders on console....but no where near as bad as PC. It's just so much easier to sit and play without all the hassle. Even though Stadia(lol) and Microsoft are pushing cloud and digital hard, that's just them trying to force what they want on the consumer. They want you using the xbox as a media center. They want you using game pass instead of owning games. They want that subscription fee instead of the cut from game/console/service sales. For Microsoft, that "Ultimate" pass is $15 a month. That's $180 a year.....xboxlive was $60(if you paid that) a year. Microsoft/Sony don't make the full $60 when a game sells as they only get a fraction. How many games do they have to sell to reach $120 per year? Does the average gamer buy enough new games to reach $120 per year? Don't forget, all the money that would go to retail/transportation/manufacturing now goes to them directly. They are also offering games they've already made a profit on with the service.

I'll be opting out of Microsoft and going to Sony/Nintendo next gen. I usually buy all three, but not after this latest microsoft scheme.

I'm halfway through and no framerate drops for me. I've noticed a pattern though. I have the physical version, a lot of the people griping about Switch framerate have the downloaded version. I'm thinking that may be the source, and probably will be something addressed in a patch soon.

I'm pleased that the dev team acknowledged the issues the very next day and is working on them. Makes me think all this might be nothing more than your typical launch issues that will be addressed soon. We will see.

That's both good and bad to know.

I just went with the PS4 version to save time/frustration. I don't really portable game anymore. I just wanted the switch to match my Curse on the shelf. I don't like it when games cross consoles in my collection.

That's definitely not good, that's inexcusable dumpster fire territory there.  There's nothing about the game that should tax the Switch compared to larger things that have popped up that really do as they work a lot better, like my DSM example, but also Diablo 3, and the Panic Button projects.  I can see why they're making groveling posts about trying to fix it.  It should have been delayed if it's that bad.

I just don’t think it was optimized for the Switch. It was developed for the PC then ported down. It all comes down to how well it’s programmed and compatible.

I’m just a stickler. Other than Curse, I haven’t bought a new game in over a year so I was disappointed.

You got me curious too, this could be a case like with Dark Souls Remastered where quite a few people including even the developers of the conversion said in many ways it is the most balanced and superior version when it comes to gameplay consistencies.  As that game (like Bloodstained) is set to lock at 30fps, the game flows and runs smoothly and consistently except in some few and far apart places while the Sony/MS versions are set to 60 but will often trend when stuff happens in a space to pop instantly into a jittery lower 40fps range fighting to claw back to 60 with even dips into the sub 30 range and it screws with people.  Both on a visual end it comes off unstable and shaky, and for gameplay it makes it a little harder to compensate on moving and attack/aim stuff.

The Switch release of DSM may not look the prettiest unless you're going for a 720 comparison then maybe, but it has stability on its side, so it makes me wonder if Bloodstained has a similar thing going on there with it.

    From what I heard no.

Switch version is reported to have drops, input lag, and super blurry visuals. Some people have reported the resolution gets worse when docked. It would be fine if it locked at 30, but it doesn’t sound like it does properly. Just too many issues for me.

I really wanted the switch version to match the other.

Just got this via kickstarter email:

So, that's some good news for the Switch fans. Maybe I will keep my copy and see.

I figured they would, but I consider it basically a digital download at that point if it doesn't work correctly day one. No point in owning a physical copy.

I heard both the other console ports are good. The framerate issue seems to be much overblown. Even on the switch, it's perfectly playable. It's just freakin' UGLY.

It looks loads better on Xbox and PS4.

The game is absolutely worth getting, it's fantastic. It's just terrible looking on the switch.

    Ok, thanks.

I just saw all the issues with it and decided it wasn't worth it. I'll get the PS4 version.

edit: Curse of the Moon was awesome on Switch so I didn't even bother to research this before wanting to get it.....
