  1. Honestly, I still don't have most of these.
  2. It was my first console. I have very vivd memories of Ms Pac-Man and Popeye as well as my dad trying to fix the controllers and the look on his face when he realized he was far out of his depth. It was then boxed up after the replacement controllers also broke and wasn't seen again. Flash forward to last year when I was given a 2-port that my wife played when she was young and almost immediately after I picked up a 4-port both in amazing condition with four (currently) working controllers. I love the thing.
  3. I'd certainly be interested in the front-loader replacement. I love Analogue's stuff, but their business practices keep putting a bad taste in my mouth.
  4. This is definitely one of those things I didn't know I wanted until I saw it. Thank you!
  5. At least part of that has been done. 🤫 The second part is proving tricky due to the weird mapper they used.
  6. Bill, I appreciate your input here. I know it's not always easy as @Games gets crapped on a lot (sometimes deservedly so), but you always do your best to put a positive spin on everything. Having said that: keep the design of the X and add SD card support or I'll figure out where you live and deflate your tires*. *I have no idea where you live and have no intentions of deflating anyone's tires.
  7. I, for one, would order the hell out of some ROMS at $5. I want to support the devs, but I only have so much $$ to go around. While I do love physical media and it will always be my first choice, physical-only has kept me away from a large number of games.
  8. First off I have to credit Smoke Monster. His ROM packs are 90% of the basis of what I have done and want to do, but they haven't been updated in quite a while and I feel like the focus is a little narrow. I'm wondering what the interest would be in building an ultimate community ROM set. I've been adding prototypes, hacks, unlicensed, and other oddball stuff to my collection, but good grief is there a lot of it and I'm usually not sure I'm following the correct naming conventions. This would not be limited to Atari, but the Atari consoles are close to my heart and very important. I will say there needs to be some sort of common sense limit for hacks and homebrew otherwise this will descend into madness very quickly. Not every ROM with some minor sprite modification needs to be included. Would anyone want this at all? Would you make changes to the general way Smoke Monster does his (I'm dropping the focus on being "for Everdrives")? What systems would you like to start with? Would you be willing to contribute?
  9. I'm not jealous. You're jealous. Shut up!
  10. I would like to see one FPGA solution that we could ultimately plug in any cartridge from the 2600, 5200, 7800, 8-bit PC line, Intellivision, and Colecovision and have it work. Then we would need one paddle accesory, one trackball, and one controller with a keypad to cover all the bases. Best of all it would be one device to take the place of several others. A stack of cratridge adapters would me much preferrable to me.
  11. I have those for the 2600. I have a few for the 5200 and 7800 too. I'll get them in a GDrive share tomorrow and post a link.
  12. Just curios if there's still anyone here. Not much happens around here for retro gaming.
  13. I feel your pain. My wife won't play anything and my kids will only play certain "old" things and even then for short periods of time.
  14. Goodwill is such a weird thing anymore. At least the locations near me try to charge damn near as much as new for stuff they a) got for free, b) have no real idea if it even works, and c) is probably missing parts (like remotes). As an example, I wanted an S-Video cable and they had one. The date on the price sticker was from 2008. It had been sitting in the store for 11 years at $5.88. I had been told previously that after 90 days they automatically do half off, but when I asked about the cable they were quite crappy about it and insisted I pay $5.88. That cable is still hanging in the same store and can until the end of time as far as I'm concerned. So between that and the employees stealing all of the "good stuff" that comes in I really don't care if they get screwed out of a few bucks. I donate to the Salvation Army or the local shelters long before I do Goodwill.
  15. I have a collection of about 288 different prototypes, would there be any interest in helping me catalogue them? I could post a zip or share them on Google Drive or something if there is. Most of what I have is already built off of Smokemonster and a few other sources so it should be pretty accurate as-is.
  16. Any info on which prototypes they are, more sepcifically Centipede and Frog Pond? I'm trying to add them to my ROMset with the others.
  17. Nothing wrong with that approach. Have fun with it!
  18. The Tankstick is fine, but it is what it is. The quality is ok and it technically does everything it needs to, but if you want to end up with a nice-looking cabinet that doesn't have a Frankenstein's monster quality to it the Tankstick isn't what you need. Hooking up the controls is really pretty easy, no soldering needed. Most encoders (the good ones anyway) are clearly labeled and plug and play. The only challenge is keeping wires straight and managed. Honestly I really enjoyed hooking up the controls even when I got something wrong. My problem is a now realize I ran afowl of the "buy cheap, buy twice" rule. I want to replace my buttons and joysticks already and it hasn't even been six months.
  19. I would NOT buy the Tankstick, and I own one, because it may seem like a great solution it really isn't. You're much, much better off buying a DIY kit and better hardware yourself. You're going to spend more than $400 all together and you'll be happy you did. I'd be happy to help point you at buttons and joysticks that will work better. Don't focus on the finished product. You're going to have to do it in stages and if you're like me it will drive you nuts. Edit: as far as the Pandora boxes go, they do work to varying degrees, but I don't think they're what you want. If you have an i5 available that will be absolutely perfect for what you want to do.
