  1. It finally feels like winter but there's still no snow.  This winter is shaping up to be like the winter of '98.  1/10th an inch of snow.   Also a lot of warm days in the 50's and 60's.

I'm not sure.  There's never much of a snow cap in the Appalachians. They are mole hills compared to the Rockies.

It might not matter so much if you get more rain year round as well...IDK...From what I've read, and I should probably say "SnowPack", (Quoting the internet here) Snow protects against erosion, slowly melting and deeply recharging the soil with water–preventing it from leaving the area as runoff. Melting snow gradually fills streams, which slowly fill rivers, providing a steady supply of freshwater that can last through summer.

Buffalo stole all the snow from the rest of us this year.

Brave.  It's Chromium-based and security- / privacy-focused.  Recently dropped Firefox in favour of it after a surprisingly decent trial period and am overall impressed.

Nice Carlsson!  I did that too!  It was Medium eggs...@ 12 for $2.18,  but I can't find a deal like that now...I think if we all eat way less eggs for a few months the price will come back down and the supply will increase a bit.   &^#&^%#$&! Avian Flu!!

I'm more worried about the tomato and sugar prices. Ketchup is going to become a luxury product soon!

eggs are very good for you, and it is a complex system within the egg that makes it so. Eggs provide a good mix of stuff including parts that fight cholesterol that it provides. Go figure.

  4. "Service Engine Soon" light is on.  Fuuuucckk!  At least AAMCO checks it for free.  Nissan wants $130 (maybe more by now) to diagnose the problem.  The first time this happened I just needed new spark plugs.

More often than one can imagine, it can be a sign of an old, inferior power supply. Yes, the computer boots as it should but behaves strangely. I found my old PC to both become more stable and perhaps a tad bit faster to start after replacing the PSU. Of course if your PC is fairly new, that might not be the case but if it is 6-10 years old or so, it can be worth considering.

I just hope it's better than 'Beavis and Butthead do the Universe'.  Some of the new episodes have been pretty good, but that wasn't a good movie.

So are you buying Atari whats-their-name for the rest of the winning amount, or is that already a sunken boat?

You are better off without all that money.  There's too many stories of lottery winners who blew through all their winning within 1-2 years and even had to declare bankruptcy.

People with any common sense don't blow through it...Yet stories of stupid people continue to fascinate.

  9. Unusual mega millions numbers last night: 7, 13, 14, 15, 18  plus the MB which was 9.  For those who don't know, the possible numbers go up to the 60's.

    1. ClassicGMR

      ClassicGMR

Of course my first set of numbers were just as unusual just in the wrong direction. 8, 48, 50, 55, 58 MB 9.

My numbers were mostly high too.  I had 5 sets and none of them had more than one low number.

  10. No snow in sight.  I hope this isn't like the winter of '98 when we only got 1/10 th of an inch the entire season.

Last year we got pounded good (Manitoba) but so far its just been a mild winter. East and west coast are getting it good. Sucks cause i got the truck fixed, and bought a snowblower.

Here on Vancouver Island we've had two heavy snowfalls so far; the second one was about 34cm or 14 inches in one night.

Ugh.  That much snow is just annoying.  Thankfully the weather is now back to the usually rain and most of the snow is gone.

@Atarian7 It's shaping up that way here to in the Kansas City metro area.   We had that one couple of inches a few weeks back and no more in sight right now.  I was telling my wife, who didn't grow up here and is not familiar with the area from 30+ years ago, that when I was a kid, pretty much all of January and February and into March the ground was in constant cover of snow.  Hell, it was always 50/50 every "Spring" break in March as kids whether we'd be playing baseball/football in the neighborhood field in short sleeves or sledding the entire week off from school.   Not this snow/melt..snow/melt stuff it does today. I lived away from the area for 30 years in warm climates(mostly Hawaii), so I didn't notice any gradual change, but moving back to the area a few years ago, it's a stark difference to my childhood memories.

  11. When I first got here today, I thought "damn I missed posting my scores for the 2600 HSC".  But then I remembered it goes until January 8.

  12. What are you doing for New Year's Eve?  I'm just playing some atari, drinking a few beers, and maybe watching the ball drop if I don't fall asleep.

Also working...My friend said I should stop by,  but unless we close early (pizza place),  I'll probably just head for home after work...Then take a shower,  eat, drink a beer,  watch a movie or series...Maybe play a video game...The Usual.  :)

My wife and I are headed to my brother and his girlfriend's house for late gift exchange followed by a small party of people coming to his place for new years.  We're luck we live a scant 5 minute walk from each other now.  Not sure if we'll still be awake at midnight.  It's hit or miss each year.  My wife and I think the last time we really went out and "partied" so to speak was when we were still living in Hawaii in our 20's and went out with some friends in Honolulu. We were in our mid/late 20's then and I remember even then, we kind of said to each other "Yeah...I think I've had enough of that".

  13. I rolled out of my bed for the 2nd or 3rd time since we moved.  The side that is facing the center of the room used to face the wall in our last house.  I'm lucky I didn't hurt myself.

Maybe we could make a videogame out of this, albeit unimaginatively titled, BED ROLLER!

You could always paraphrase Linda Evangelista that you don't roll out of your bed for less than $10,000.

He better not be out screwing around...playing with his buddies....doing those reindeer games.

  18. The forecast for next Thursday and Friday keeps changing.  First it's snow, then it's freezing rain, and then it's rain/snow.  Right now it is back to freezing rain for Thursday and snow for Friday.  I'm rooting for all snow.

We got our first snowfall last night -- like half an inch. And like always these arsehats forget how to drive. I was coming home around 3 AM and saw like 5 or 6 spinouts on side of road or in the median. Pathetic. PT Cruiser type vehicles.

    3. LS650

      LS650

In my experience, the type of vehicle doesn't have much to do it; the majority of the time when a vehicle gets into trouble on icy roads it's due to an idiot driver.

    4. jd_1138

      jd_1138

Oh yeah no doubt. I just mentioned the PT Cruiser because it looked so sad in median stuck. Looked like it was in nice condition too, all original and not clapped out with Kmart hubcaps. Like I said it's amazing how these idiots can wreck in literally 5 centimeters of snow. Body shops probably pray for harsh winters. Lol

  19. We're getting a cold rain today.  33 degrees  Glad it isn't freezing anymore.

Great weather for cozying up to book reading and videogaming.

  20. We're almost to that time.  "You'll shoot your eye out."

  21. Well, in many ways, the Big Boy never left, sir. He's always offered the same high-quality meals at competitive prices.

  22. We actually got the right combination of papers this morning even though we moved last week.

I'm surprised because sometimes they got it wrong at our old address where we had been living for years.

Oh yeah, I assume it is the same delivery person because we only moved a mile away.

  23. Unfortunately I am freezing up.

  24. I'm back!  I moved on Sunday and just got hooked up.

  25. Apparently the twerps thought the game was only 2 quarters long.
