  1. Oh I got ET for Christmas that year.  Scarred for life..

I was going to say for Colecovision I bought Mean Santa.  I like that one.

I've also played the Santa Must Save Christmas and Santa's Gift Run roms.. which are ok.

For the PC I always liked Christmas Lemmings and that old Elf Bowling game.

Is that a good or bad thing?

In my opinion that's a good thing.

I'm no Dino Eggs expert but I've played the C64 version back in the day.  I really should revisit it again.

Making it better then the original is a good thing too.

  3. It's so hard to pick a Top 10.  I spent so much time playing other great Legacy and Home brew games on the Coleco too.

    Legacy:

    Centipede
    Donkey Kong
    Donkey Kong Jr.
    Gorf
    Q-bert
    Root Beer Tapper
    Smurf
    Space Panic
    Venture
    Zaxxon

If I could add five more..

    Frogger

    Mr. Do!

    Pepper II
    Popeye

    Spy Hunter

    -----

    Home brew:

    Asteroids
Collectorvision Club Second Years Secret Game
    Deep Dungeon Adventure
    DKA
    Joust
    Mario Bros
    Missile Command
    Sydney Hunter
    Vanguard
    Wizard of Wor

If I could add five more..

    Battle of Hoth

    Ghost

    Prisoner of War

    R-Type
    Risky Rick

  4. It would be neat to see a version of Smurf that you could be holding right on the controller and have the up to jump mapped to a button.

Currently if you remap the up to jump you can't be holding right when you press the jump button.  (Since you wouldn't be able to hold right an up at the same time.)

    If that makes any sense..

Although there may be some difference in the firmware, the fact that no other games, official or homebrew, other then EA games show this issue makes me think something is being done differently in the controller initialization code. Since the game works properly once a button is pressed it isn't an issue with reading the controller in general and just an initialization issue.

    What we know:

-On bootup on a Rev 8 firmware there are no controller buttons actuated (ie no inputs/no buttons depressed) when running controller test roms

-No other games display a controller press when booting up

-When loading Cavern fighter the game appears to think a button is pressed

-The game correctly identifies and reacts when the button is actually pressed and starts working correctly afterwards even through a new game

-This would lead me to think something is happening in the controller initialization that is different then any other game.

If we can find out what this difference in initialization implementation is, we can determine what in the firmware would affect this initialization code.

The A E rom also has this issue on the gen 2 phoenix rev 8.

You press 1 to start the game then it rapid fires until you press a button.

  6. I'm having the same Cavern Fighter issue with the Gen 2 Phoenix also.

It works fine on the stock Colecovision.  (This is a really fun game.)

If you have a Snes NTT controller and use that instead of using the Colecovision controller ports you can still play the game on the Phoenix.

The game will still automatically start though.

The first time you press a button the auto fire will stop and you can play like normal.

Once the game ends you can access the title screen normally.

If I use a stock colecovision controller the game will crash and reset.

Interestingly enough if you don't have any controllers plugged in the game still auto starts with the auto fire.

On a side note with the Gen 2 Phoenix,

I noticed the A E rom also starts the game with an auto fire.  Once you press a button the auto fire will stop and you can play normally.

The copies are produced in batches, Toby will produce another batch shortly, but yes they need to up the initial quantities, especially on original games, and due to the number of active members in the community that want to support physical copies.

    Thanks very much.

Yea I like getting physical copies.  Especially the original games.
