Yes, that was my video and hot swapping games by selecting them on the DF cart and then having it load them up will cause the 2600+ to black out and then reload the new game just like it does when you psychically hot swap cartridges which is nice. I haven't tested many 'brews on it, but what I have all fails due the games not existing as part of the lookup table it uses for Pro System. Even graphical hacks of actual original games fail to load up due to the checksum changes resulting from the changes in the game code.

Although unlike @swlovinist results, the rom version of NTSC Crossbow labeled for Joystick did load up and work just fine for me on the 2600+. I've not tried my actual CB cart yet but at least one version of the ROM for the game does work.

Hmm I focused my 7800 testing on Tank Command and Rampage, the two untested carts on the list.

    Hi John,

The PR / Marketing department are putting together a sentiment report on the Atari 2600+ launch. I noted that they are classifying your Youtube review as negative because you 'Gave it a Pass' as in pass on it/dont buy it - I didnt take it like that and thought it got a Pass grade, could be improved.

What is your defination of a pass?

I gave it a 7.5 overall and still recommend it.   I understand some of the shortcomings but do state rather directly my issues with the product.   I just wanted to be clear on the shortcomings to others so they are not disappointed.   Your understanding of my review is accurate.

UGH I had a look earlier and the new one was live, looks like the old one is back there, I've asked for it to be refreshed

In the meantime here is the PDF version of the new one

73 changes. 68 move from 'Not Tested' or 'Fail' to now 'Pass' with 5 remaining or new 'Fails'

    2600Plus Compatability launch day update.pdf 2.29 MB · 48 downloads

7800 Rampage does not work as I tested two different carts.  2600 Tunnel Runner does not work either nor does Burgertime.      2600 Starpath Supercharger with at least The Offical Frogger does not work.   In the nicest way possible, my suggestion in the future is to reach out to few collectors before launch.   We could of easily had a more accurate checklist :).

Love your work keep it up!

What would you say is the ceiling is for something like this? I would say without an FPGA solution there is a ceiling but I feel if compatibility gets improved for homebrews and things like Deepstone Catacomb and Pitfall 2 start working we are looking at a potential 9.0? Maybe a 9.5 if they ever offer a way to load your roms via a PC hookup.

I am hoping for near 100% with software updates but have realistic expectations.

  5. In its current state, I give it a 7.5/10

+99% compatible with 2600 commercial games

+7800 commercial games work but one(Rampage)

    +Joystick CX-40+ is excellent

    +Console is upgradable with firmware

    -No power brick for $130.00

-Pitfall II for 2600 and Rampage for the 7800 currently do not work

-Lack of current 7800 homebrew support

-Lack of support for menu multicarts

I am looking forward to this becoming a much better product.

SN2 Cart has Pokey, YM2151 and YM2612. It will be a flash cart easy to program on your own and open source.

I believe that BOM will be around 25$, which will be good enough for small batches.

I'm also thinking about LITE version in the future,

BTW after small changes the game can also run on Atari XL/XE with MariaEci.

Below example of EightySix demo running on A8 :D

Thanks for that option.   Since this is a project that Darryl1970 and I are splitting 50/50, that appears to still be too expensive for what I want to offer a game for when considering that I have other raw materials to factor in.   Pcbs without the extras are half the cost of that but good to know there is another option.   If anything, possibly a DIY for those that want to purchase a digital option and put on their own cart.   All decisions will be done jointly with Darryl1970 and I.

This puzzle game is a work of art visually.  The animations are fantastic and the controls are easy, responsive, and handle smoothly.

I would move INSTRUCTIONS away from the OPTIONS menu and just make it as one of the selections from the Main/Title Screen so the selections are:

    NORMAL START

    OPTIONS

    INSTRUCTIONS

Taking it a step further, considering it is only one screen of instructions, it may be worth considering just showing the instructions anyhow at the start of every new game, considering there is at least one very important and essential gameplay aspect that may not be easily figured out:

    image.thumb.png.4f602cfd83b9867940c4ccaa1f8f8871.png

I know my first game, I did not read the instructions, got stuck, and honestly thought to myself, it should not be this difficulty to figure out what to do next this early on in the game.   I had no clue about the above option.

TIA has been handled well, and I like that it is different than much of what is heard from other games out there.  I love having the option to turn the background music out via Select button - that was a great idea.  Sound effects only, may indeed be the route some go with this title, if TIA is the only sound available.  My humble two cents here is we have basic (TIA) and advance/exotic (YM) audio developed, but missing what I consider an intended standard (POKEY or POKEY+TIA), as put into place in the original retail games Ballblazer and Commando.

Scoring is fair, and the goal to leave as few blocks as possible before a level is considered cleared is a great way to instill further replay value (and thinking) in the title.

Puzzles may not be my first go to genre of games, but this was is done very well, and definitely unique in its gameplay respecting any other title on the platform.  Looking forward to purchasing it when the full versions becomes available.

Thank you for your feedback.   The sound route is a difficult one indeed with so many options to consider these days.   Lots of factors moving forward why pokey option is not a priority ATM.   Cost is a major factor, as well as availability of pcbs that support them when considering a physical release.   The plan is to eventually offer this in both physical and digital.   With the GD and Dragonfly offering YM sound support as well, I feel that this currently is the best option as the above demo can support TIA and YM at no additional cost.   Playing this game on a stock 7800 at a fair price is a focus for me moving forward.

I only played this a little before work today but really enjoyed what I played. It's a bit weird all the hate this is getting both before and after release. As for the recharged series, I still place Quantum as the weakest entry in the series with Missile Command close to the bottom. Not sure were I rank Berzerk yet but it won't be near the bottom, I think Yars Recharged is the best entry so far with Gravitar a close second to top.

Yars and Gravitar are some of my favorites.

  9. I was honored to have my Jaguar and Lynx Collection in the museum.   This was the fifth consecutive year that some of my collection has been on display and was happy to share with others.   It feels so much  better having games on display versus boxes.

On a side note, the best electronics box in the glass  display is a refurbished Jag CD unit that I got repaired when they were still doing that.
