  1. I see you came up with my Reddit post as the explanation, haha.
  2. Maybe? They seem pretty stuck on, though, and I don't want to break anything. But that still doesn't help the symbols that are on the wrong keys (for example, 3 has some symbol I don't recognize on it rather than the # sign). EDIT: I mean, I could always get a set of US keyboard stickers, and then I just have to worry about the nonfunctional key next to Left Shift, but I know I'm not gonna find any stickers in that shade of white with blue lettering that would match the rest of the keyboard. And then it's gonna be a pain if I ever want to return the keyboard to its original shape.
  3. Here's a picture of the keyboard I have, by the way.
  4. I have a German Mega STe with English ROMs in it. It has the German keyboard, so not all the keys match up with the keymap on the computer. The keyboard is in great shape, and most of the keys work perfectly (though there are a couple that need to be pressed really hard due to the keyboard flex circuit being dirty). If anyone's willing, I'd like to trade it for a US keyboard so the keys I'm pressing actually match with the keys the computer thinks I'm pressing. Thanks for your consideration. EDIT: Typo
  5. Okay, well, thanks for making me feel better about it, haha. I doubt I'll ever sell the thing (I mean, I haven't really even gotten used to using it yet), but realizing pretty much everyone else would also have to use it with a monitor makes it not so bad. EDIT: I wouldn't mind having an actual US keyboard if I could find one at a decent price or if I could trade my German keyboard for it. As it sits, there's one key that doesn't do anything with a US rom, the Z and Y are swapped, and there are several keys that print symbols that don't match up.
  6. I kinda thought that might be the case. The guy that gave it to me tried to talk up the value because it was in such great shape, but I figure he must not have paid that much for it if he was wanting to give the thing to me rather than just pay me in cash (he offered me the choice between this one and a US MSTe that was supposedly in awful shape). It does have English ROMs in it, by the way, so I don't know if that helps. It seems to display in 60Hz most of the time unless a piece of software requests 50Hz, but of course the RF modulator and the Composite video signal are still PAL encoded, so it's useless on an actual TV here.
  7. Nice! I also have an Omnikey, but I do generally prefer my Model M, so I just use my Omnikey on computers that have the 5-pin DIN port instead of the PS/2 mini-DIN port.
  8. I'm just curious, how does the value of a German MSTe compare to that of a US MSTe? I got a German MSTe in exchange for some electronic design services I performed, and while it's in excellent shape, it still means I've got a PAL unit with a funky keyboard layout in NTSC land. Luckily I have a Sony PVM that syncs to a PAL video signal without any problem (I just had to make a cable for it), but I imagine it'd be harder to sell than a US MSTe if I ever needed to.
  9. I was about to say the same thing. CRT sets with HDMI inputs have to upscale SD signals to display them, which creates too much lag in the picture for light gun games to function properly (and in my opinion, light gun games are one of the big reasons for still owning a CRT).
  10. I've never used a 1084, but I can say my PVM-14M4U produces an excellent picture. I do have an interference problem with some of the things I hook up to it, but it might be due to low-quality cabling. One thing I've noticed about my PVM, though, is that the vertical linearity is somewhat off. I'm sure there's an adjustment for it (I mean, there is on my TV, and this is a much more precision piece of equipment than my TV), but I haven't looked for it yet. EDIT: When I say the linearity is off, I mean just slightly. I don't notice it on static images, just when things are scrolling vertically, as it makes it look like things moving through the top of the screen are moving faster than things moving through the bottom of the screen.
  11. I posted on the local FreeCycle looking for broken CRT sets last year or the year before (I just wanted the HV lead and cup out of one) and actually got tons of responses for people with WORKING sets who just didn't want them anymore.
  12. I don't know if I'd call it a 'great' image, but I have a Toshiba 32A33 TV that's large (32"), very light for its size, and has a pretty good image quality.
  13. Not really. Just take out all the screws on the bottom and lift off the top. Then, if you need to, pull the keyboard's flex cable out of its slot and lift the keyboard off the posts holding it in place.
  14. The original 1983 Microsoft Mouse will also work if you wire up an adapter.
  15. Dang, I wish I would have noticed this earlier. The trip would have been doable, but only if I had planned a few weeks in advance.
  16. Mine has an older 512k DRAM upgrade in it, but it works just fine pushed all the way down.
  17. I had no stuttering at all on my PC, and while it does have a fairly fast CPU, the graphics card is old at this point. Maybe it's just not as optimized on consoles. Anyway, I beat the main quest line a day or two ago, and I thought the game was thoroughly enjoyable. I think I'll have a couple of extra hours of play if I go back and finish the side quests I largely ignored. The game was kind of short just following the main quest, but it wasn't short enough to make me dissatisfied with the purchase price.
  18. My friend's band just released the music video they recorded a while back. It makes no sense in relation to the song, but it made me laugh, so there's that.

  19. I was actually thinking of doing something similar to this on my own. Probably still will, as I've been learning a lot about assembly language recently. I was thinking of using a PIC chip, though.
  20. Ctrl+Esc only opens the Start menu, it doesn't replace the Windows key. There are a number of useful shortcuts you can use by holding down the Windows key and some other key on the keyboard, but you can't use Ctrl+Esc to duplicate that functionality.
  21. I think I get it. It sounds like there might be some 'novelty' to it, but I think I would rather the sounds just stay blended.
  22. So what exactly does this stereo mod do for sound in existing games? Does it just arbitrarily split up the original mono notes or what?
  23. I've been very tempted to order one of those Unicomp keyboards for a long time, now. I love my Model M, but sometimes not having the Windows key or not having USB connectivity gets to me. Having a built-in trackball or trackpoint would be nice as well.
  24. Because, It's Midnite - Limozeen
