  1. That "flyguy becoming antagonist" sounds good too! But I still like the idea about rescuing captured flyguy. If you get "too many" suggestions, maybe you will have to make sequel for FlyguyII! Or just call this assembler Flyguy as FLYGUY and it´s sequel as FLYGUY II. I didn´t exactly mean you are making "family fame" with no violence at all I just meant that FlyGuy IS a family game already, suitable for everyone! (maybe with exception of those with BAD phobics for flies and spiders) I think the same for Pac-Man. It easily gets too boring because of same maze and same ghost movement, only ghost speed increases. Though I am "too old" to play it anymore but sometimes I give it a go with my little son who likes it a much!! Here´s one hint: I just said about putting rest ideas to FlyGuy´s sequel (or to other similar type grid/maze game), but there´s one idea which I haven´t seen in MSX games. You could put little option menu in title screen, where you could select what kind of game you want to play. Like "SELECT STARTING MAZE" (of course you could select just first few, otherwise game would be spoiled) "SAME MAZE EVERY TIME" "SPIDERS JUST GET FASTER AND FASTER" (and that´s it, no bugs, no rescuing, nothing else, but just flyguy, food and spiders on the grid) "CAPTURED FLYGUY BECOMES A BUG" "RESCUE FLYGUY" "INVISIBLE WEB" (it probably is too hard to play with invisible web, but it is a nice add for those who want a real challenge!! spiders are visible which gives player some hint about where there is a web) "PARTLY INVISIBLE WEB" (same as above, but visited web-grid becomes visible and stays visible, not visited web parts are invisible) "INVISIBLE WEB AND SPIDERS" (for very foolish players! spiders are only visible when they step to visible part of web. yes, i know, it must be very hard, but it adds some fun to the game and prevents boredom!) and player could possibly select several options together, like "SAME MAZE EVERY TIME" and "CAPTURED FLYGUY BECOMES A BUG" to get always just same maze and dead flyguy turns to dangerous bug in that game. I have always liked the menu which was used in Commodore 64 game "JUICE". It allows player select what characters (=enemies) are used in game! It had level selection option too. "KID GRID" by same author has difficulty selection and possibility to select amount of "STUNS". (to freeze enemies for 1-2 seconds) I understand, that such options are not good for every game, it may spoil FlyGuy completely. But this was just an idea.
  2. Hello! It´s wonderful looking hack! But one thing keeps coming to my mind though. That angry ghost still quite looks like scared (eatable) ghost. And Pac-Man does scare away just by "normal" ghost (which kills pac-man) ( why pac-man should be scared of something which looks eatable? ) so using "normal" ghost for a "dog-mode" makes more sense, me thinks. But it was just my thought.
  3. I wanted to make some comments, as I do like the idea and looks of this game a lot! This FLYGUY starts to feel like old good arcade games did!! So Flyguy is gonna grab dead fly bodies? As spider will surely bite and inject poison into fly guy in the very fraction of second fly guy is captured. And at the same time, fly guy´s inner body starts to melt because of spider´s digestive liquids. I am sorry to spoil your "Family game" ( where captured flies can of course be freed again by fellow fly ) had to give some scientific facts here... Ahhh, of course fly guy must free captured fly guys! it´s a nice idea!! And gives nice feeling to player! (I can imagine little 1980s player becoming happy by freeing fly guy from spiders web!) I do like the looks of that random level in screenshot! It just looks exactly like EARLY EIGHTIES GAMES MAZES DO LOOK!!!! (well, some of them at least) So I personally suggest you putting your computer making random levels and choosing working ones to game. I think that if you keep original computer generated random levels and add human made ones, human made ones may have clear contrast in their looks when compared to random generated levels (means to say, that human made ones may look too different...) Though that depends on which kind of levels certain human is designing. I haven´t tested your playable demo so I don´t know how flyguy´s entrance do look like, but I imagined his entrance as randomly appearing from either top, bottom, left or right hand screen edge, being made of 16x16 sprite (or several sprites) to get him bigger, so it looks like he´s flying, and little wing animation could be nice too (wings could have another colour during flying, just to make fly guy look neater for few seconds and thus making this fly moment feel more special ) and fly guy wheels half-randomly around for a few seconds while first seconds of "Flight of the bumble bee" is played and then flyguy sits on randomly selected web spot, shrinks to 8x8 sprite, and that melody fades away in few seconds of time (by slowly turning volume to zero). I can samelike think for this "hyper space" thing, fly guy should do some real fly like wheeling arounds for few seconds to make him really feel like a fly before he lands to the web again (well, landing again on spider´s web is not very wise choice for a fly, but anyway... ) Maybe same little melody could be played once again every time fly guy does his little aerial acrobatics. Or then, if you don´t like the musical part, you may just program him doing everchanging BUZZZZZZZZZ sound during flying. Hmmmm.... maybe it´s then time for a sequel? "FLYGUY III - MRS. FLYGUY" wELL.... actually it would be nice to have Mrs. FlyGuy appearing during game. Either between levels in some very simple "interlude" (like in pac-man and C=64 Frantic Freddie, Super Pipelines, etc... etc...) where Mr. FlyGuy could fly to home (black empty screen, mr. flyguy appears from the left edge and flies to the centre of the screen where mrs. flyguy sits and being a nice family game, mr. flyguy comes home bringing food along him! There could be a simple message like "MR. FLYGUY COMES HOME BRINGING FOOD TO MRS. FLYGUY" There could appear a little red heart between mr. and mrs. flyguy and there could be little loving greeting message from mrs. flyguy to her ever lovin´ six legged husband! Maybe there could be few different love messages from Mrs. FlyGuy, different in each interlude, to make game more interesting, so player has to play more, to see all messages! I was thinking, that if flyguy gets captured, maybe Mrs. FlyGuy could have a little (but very important) cameo role. Either player could control Mrs. FlyGuy for a moment, trying to free his husband from spider´s web, either player could use some "pill" (if player has any) by pressing fire button, to make mrs. flyguy appear to rescue. Again could some little melody be played. Maybe game could be silent otherwise, and music is played only during entrance and flying and rescue parts. Sorry, I just have appetite for designing "nice little things which make game better". By the way, you guys were thinking about how many cartridges you should make. Could this give somekinda of solution? 1) You could ask here, how many users want to buy FlyGuy cartridge? 2) Produce that amount of cartridges and bring them to the fair (maybe you have to produce some more to the fair, if just few forum users want cartridge) 3) If all cartridges get sold on fair, that´s great! If some cartridges are unsold, then ask money from forum users who wanted flyguy cartridge and send existing cartridges to them. 4) If there are not enough cartridges left after fair, then just send existing ones first to forum users, who were fastest in "I WANNA BUY FLYGUY CARTRIDGE!!!!". Slower forum users just need to wait someone produces last cartridges, and this way, there should be (at least almost) exact amount of cartridges and no cartridges are left to cartridge maker unsold. Of course, my idea is not trouble-free, but you can freely desing my idea better. "Just my thoughts"
  4. Nice to see and hear that someone still honours "old fashioned" graphics designing. (by the way, nowadays´ PC&MAC graphic makers should be forced to design ALL their work on graph paper first and then program their graphics into computer using READ and DATA statements (and bit different way on TI-99/4A I think? or does your computer has READ and DATA... I have seen TI-99/4A program character and sprite definitions done different way, me thinks)... first 8 X 1 pixel row, then second 8 X 1 pixel row etc, that should teach nowadays graphic artists what computing is!! ) I do know, that it takes A LONG TIME to design and draw nice sprites and characters on paper. But it is part of fun. Good sprite editor saves awfully lot of time.... though it makes me feel a bit "guilty", for not using colouring pencils and paper instead.... but still it can take a lot of time to design good looking sprites (especially bigger multicolour ones) on 16 X 16 grid.... of course that depends, how artistical somebody is or which kind of graphics somebody wants to make.
  5. Rocky, Ok I thought you didn´t knew MSX version exists, as it was not mentioned in this topic. I strongly suggest by using Commodore 64 sounds (I haven´t played Atari one, I don´t know how it will sound like) as MSX programmer haven´t translated that good sound effect which happens when you collect a lamp. That effect is not that hard to program, me thinks. I don´t remember if there was some other sound effects which were different on MSX conversion, but that broken fluorescent lamp is quiet on MSX at least, I don´t remember anymore, if it was flashing at all on MSX. Thank you for your links, opry99er. I haven´t looked everything yet, as there were so many links in your links. But I must say, that I liked the screenshots of SSGC games and other game projects! About SSGC screenshots, Fly Guy was my favourite! I have always loved everykind of "pacman" type games! I have bored to Pacman ages ago, but will play interesting variants gladly! I loved those Honeycomb Rapture paper and pen sketches!! Just like the old days!!!!
  6. Hello again and thank you for welcoming me! Well, yes, you remember correctly, retroclouds. I still keep commenting on MSX Resource Center´s topics. Opry99er, I will gladly look at your links. There are many interesting TI-99/4A topics in this forum, me thinks. It is interesting to see game projects of other TMS-99-1/2-8 computer even though games will not run on MSX.
  7. Hello Everybody! I read this TI-99 programming forum sometimes, since TI-99/4A and MSX are "sister machines" and now I found this Bruce Lee topic. Since it looks like you don´t know this, I will give you this link: Maybe it helps somehow to see how Bruce Lee could look on TI. (I guess some of you have now guessed what this link shows, right?) Anyway, enjoy video, although as you can hear, sadly the programmer is not a musician. Regards, MäSäXi
  8. Thanks, but NOPE. In demo mode mothership was ALL THE TIME just above player, and mothership was on the bottom of the screen.
  9. I think it was 1984, it was situated in a little roadside café and on the bottom of the screen there was huge colourful mothership, which reminded me mothership Galactica it was made with blueish colours to make it look metallic, your own space fighter was under that mothership and from the top of the screen came saucers, I remember they were all white, I am not sure if their hemisphere shaped cabins were other colour. And those saucers waggled fast during their downwards rush shooting at you same time. It´s all I can remember as I just watched it´s demo mode. What game it can be?
  10. Thank you very much! I completely forgot my topic here, so my thank yous come "a bit" late... SapMP 1.71 is very nice player!! Now I am happy!
  11. Sounds like you want to get 2600 SMB which has as good graphics as arcade version had. In the past, graphically many 2600 games didn´t do any justice to originals. (And people liked to play them!) So what? If someone makes Super Mario Bros to it I surely will play it! So what, if "bricks" are just solid blocks as long as game is playable! Playability is the most important thing to me! And when you look at 2600 versions of Mario Bros and Donkey Kong, you can clearly see that at least Mario can be easily make to look good. And to me it is enough if mario and koopas look good! Scenery can be blocky, as scenery is blocky in most 2600 games anyway.
  12. Hello! I like much to listen PSG/AY-8910 and SID sounds and I like Atarian sounds too, so is there any player(s) that can play Atari 400-800(XL) music? And I don´t mind if same player can play 2600 game sounds too! ThanXXX !
  13. thanks for reply!! I just started to think is my question THAT hard, and then I saw your answer! Those machines in those two first links looked great! Never knew that my all time favourite tv show had a game too!! Fonz seems to be MUST to have machine !! I will check that last link, but before that I must tell a bit more about motorbike game I meant. 1) It´s computer graphics were COLOURFUL, I am not completely sure, but I somehow remember that graphics were better than on MSX(-1) type hardware, thought I am not exactly sure. But they were colourful, that is for sure! 2) Biker was not little plastic 3D model, but it was FLAT plastic, just like in some old handheld games, like the one which had flat formula car above game screen.
  14. I was playing pacman first time, when he was four years old... pac was much younger than me, and he was too hard to beat!
  15. Hello! The year was probably 1984, and I was in finnish amusement park, in Linnanmäki I guess and there on cafeteria was some arcade games, first lovable game I identified from the KLOV as Roller Aces, but second I don´t know what it is... It was motorbike game and it was seen from the sky, there was buildings on the sides of the game area and in the middle was road, graphics were nice, (and that is of course what I thought twenty-one years ago!) there were puddles on the road too, thought I don´t remember were they harmful or not. There was one certain thing which made this game different to all other arcade games I had ever seen. And that was that background was made with computer graphics, but biker was PLASTIC thingy on the top of the screen! So, what game is it? I fear taht I never ever can play that game again, as it cannot exactly emulated from the rom, as rom just has the background unless some programs that biker on binary code form too....
