Thank you for reporting this @7800Knight. My Japanese wife, son, and I are all big fans of Mr. Toriyama's "Dr. Slump" and Dragon Quest artwork. We us to live in Aichi-prefecture where he was from and lived. I always wondered if I ever walked passed him at some point during that time, as he was a very private man. Such a shame and a sad day for us all. Thanks again for sharing this with all of us.

  6. I got Pitfall 2: The Lost Caverns for next to nothing at a convention...but it didn't work.  Just today, I watched a video on cleaning Atari cartridges so I disassembled it, cleaned the connectors with alcohol, used an air compressor to spray away dust, reassembled it...and it started working!  YAY!

      nanochess

Almost all Activision games for Atari 2600 and Colecovision have that problem. A little cleaning gets these working.

    2. 7800Knight

      7800Knight

@nanochess I know.  My copy of Keystone Kapers didn't work.  Some isopropyl alcohol got it working right.  That wasn't enough for Pitfall 2 so I had to disassemble the actual cartridge.  I had never done such a thing before.

  9. I'm watching GI Joe: A Real American Hero from the 1980s and realized something as an adult.  It's implied to take place in the same universe as the G1 Transformers and Inhumanoids.  That means people would be living on an Earth constantly under siege by a worldwide terrorist network, invading robots from outer space and vicious monsters!!

    1. bent_pin

      bent_pin

Ever have a single scene from an all but forgotten tv show stick out in your mind, but have no way to find it? For 38 years, mine have been D'compose from Inhumanoids. When I saw the title in your status update, I knew that was what I have been thinking about for nearly 4 decades. Thanks for helping me put that to bed.

Per your idea though, I guess that's the Hasbro Hell on Earth scenario.

@bent_pin The smoking gun is the character of Hector Ramirez, a reporter.  He has appeared in the Hasbor cartoons Transformers, GI Joe, Inhumanoids and Jem & the Holograms.

Speed issues aside, I think it's much closer to the arcade game than the ColecoVision port was. Arcade Donkey Kong was super tough, and so is this!

@Jess RaganTell me about it!  Barrels hit Mario's head when he's climbing the ladder, killing him!

men overestimate their ability to do just about everything. "ah yeah I'd just replace this 75 gallon water heater by myself if I just had the right tools!"

    3. bent_pin

First ask if there's a pilot on board.

      Establish communication declare an emergency.

Relay fuel information, heading, elevation, and air speed.

No matter what, keep flying the plane.

      Get your approach vector.

      Line up your approach.

      Lower the landing gear.

Flaps to 3/4, reduce airspeed to 180ish, begin the decent.

Flaps to full, reduce airspeed to 165, begin your roll.

Keep it lined up and hold on until the rear wheels touch down.

Power down and begin to apply the brakes.

Alternatively, you could put your head between your knees and kiss your butt goodbye.

    4. dudeguy

      dudeguy

yeah and also just hope that your pilot isn't on a suicide mission and intentionally trying to crash the plane...

The ipecac slaw was...memorable to say the least.  As the proprietor Captain Blondebeard describes the ipecac slaw:  "Not bad... ...but fifteen minutes later ya be hungry again."

  18. Joel Hodgson announced the 2nd movie chosen for Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 14 - Deathsport (1978)!

This stinker features David Carradine and Playboy Playmate Claudia Jennings in a post-apocalyptic world where any criminal sentenced to die must do "Deathsport" - criminals fight each other and the winner goes free!  (Wow, that's original.)

I just have a 4 person glass dining table as my desk in my room, with a 32 inch monitor. I have a SFF HP ProDesk computer with a wireless mouse/keyboard. May not be portable like that rolling one the guy has, but I have tons of real estate left on it for a vertical file bin, my bills, a lamp, my camera, and many other items.

Fun show, I'm about halfway thru season 4.  It's one of many shows I've imported from Europe - PAL DVDs look much better on modern HDTV and 4K sets than the NTSC DVD conversions we can buy in the states. PAL's picture is comprised of 576 scanlines, 20% more than NTSC's 480 scanlines.
