The total number of Atari 2600s ever sold, seems to be around 30 million. (I've seen figures from 25 to 40 million.) I have seen it claimed that nearly all of these were in America. Europe did not develop a liking for consoles until the nineties, but what about Japan? I would've expected the machine to sell very well there, but I never hear anything about it selling in Japan. How many 2600s sold in Japan? If the answer is not very many, why? Was it not marketed there until too late (I remember Atari got burned with their Japanese subsidiary in the early seventies, embezzlement sank the enterprise and they had to sell up and pull out), or was there some other reason?
