  2. Just got this mesg wile looking around... This community is temporarily unavailable Please wait a few minutes and try again. Is the system not have enough lines coming in?? Peter

Maybe the connector is on backwards) The voltage does.. see above mesg. for color but check the voltage one end should be +5.0 and the other end should be +12 the middle two are gnd.... Pin Color Type Pin 1 Red +5 V Pin 2 Black Ground Pin 3 Black Ground Pin 4 Yellow +12 V
  4. Hi I think I have run into the same problem... I don't want SDX for everything.. The trick I found is: do Fdisk the CL/SD card and do not format the partition with SDX. Boot up Mydos and "I" the partition with it but add a "/n" before the partition as in ( I /n d7: ) Don't for get to set up the density and size with the "O" and the "P" command first. I worked fro me.. I now have a CL with SDX and Mydos partitions... Also when you "Fdisk" Mydos only likes 256 not 512 ... SDX can do both.. By the way SDX will read both dir's but Mydos only reads Mydos dir's.. Hope this helps.. Peter
  5. HA HA I just bought a box of the unbranded disks and lets see what the difference is.. They did not say unbranded where d/s d/d only, NOT HD, as they did on the Goldstar ones!!! O yes I saw they are in Texas,USA Peter
  6. Sorry to say but I just ordered the "last" box..Tried for 2 but only 1 available... The ad. said dd/dd only NOT hd...So maybe they are ok. When they get here I will try them on a stock 1050 s/s d/d and a xf551 d/s d/d and see how they do>> Also I am in the USA and ?free? shipping. No tax?? Sorry Paul UK left out?? If you need some I can order them and ship to UK, I think. Peter
  7. So copy does nothing but add a another file of the same to the cl/sd!!! OK thanks for the info, I wanted to copy the file to a disk to get from the PC to the Atari disk drive.. Peter
  8. OK I think I understand the "COPY" but what is the way you set it up. I tried control c and get COPY them what?? How do you give it a drive number? I have tried to say D2: file name but it does not accept the D2: the cursor just stops on the " : ". If hitting the return key it then acts like it is saving the file but I can not find it... Sorry I ask questions when I do not understand but I would like to use this AVG to the best I can. There maybe others who don't understand also but are afraid to ask...The manual tells a lot but just said "control-c to copy but does not say how.. Peter
  9. Hi, noted there is a "copy" command but no where can I find how to use it.. I tried the commend but did not correctly add the proper words after.. What is the format and what can you copy from (AVG) to disk, IDE disk ??? Thanks for the info... Been using it for awhile and really like it.. Peter
  10. Well I am bumping this thread because I have ONE, well maybe more, questions.... I have a Fujinet and go to the site that it can see. I download this or that and find that some of the files with .ATR on them do not load... I download them to the Disk drive No. 1 (or sometimes copy to the SD files area) and then press "Option". Some load and run as they should but some do not complete the load or just start and quit. Some of the time the they just stop and the blue screen is there with the square at the top at the top. No error ever given. I guess my question is, DO the files at the different TNFS sites WORK??? Are they checked out before they are added??? Like I say some work great and some don't.. Most of the files I have been downloading are dos and utility's. I don't have this problem if I download files to my PC (most of the time) and then transfer to cl/sd cards.. Peter
  11. Just in case you may have not read there is a thread about the switching reg. It was at the end of a thread about a floppy drive that the OP was fixing and added the SW. reg and the drive failed to work... Turns out the OP e-mailed/called the company and found out there is a RF field around the devices and can cause trouble with the pick up heads of the drive.. Also the SW. reg do not like switching into a cap load (470uf, I think) so the OP had to take out the output cap's of the 5,0 and 12.0volt line... My xf551 has the problem also but have been doing other things so I have not got back to the problem with it.. The OP did get the drive working and a guess the heat problem was reduced ... I know the heat of the XF551 was way lower but the drive does not work... Peter
  12. WOW, Well all of you are on the right track and with all the suggestions I have A boot dos Sparta 32d disk.. How did I do it,well I followed some/most of the help and here is what happen. 1). Sorry to say but Fujinet did not work.. I downloaded 2 files both ATR's and they did not work "loaded". It started for about 1-2 sec then stopped . nothing happen, reboot after 30 sec. Both files failed 2). Had the AVG cart handy so I tried it.. Loaded both files and plugged it in with the SIO connector... Loaded the first file (ATR) and away it went... Came up with the header of Sparta DOS and them the D1:. GREAT.. did a DIR and the files TGB1718 had showed above came up.. So nice to finally get it working. Just to show the DOS was working I formatted a floppy disk and made a bootable disk..Work great... Now I hope I will not ask about HOW to move files from PC to Atari again... You all can relax LOL. O yes I did try the second file and it worked also..Some slightly different files but came up and "ran" Sorry I use outdated words. Peter OK I forgot to say, I formatted the disk and then wrote dos to it to make it boot able..
  13. OK I have read and almost understand all the comments that you all have said and tried to get the "light bulb" to turn on in my head. I know if if I can just do it once it will work on.. It took me about 3 mo to find the copy commend in Fujinet and about 6 mo to find out that you can talk to your fujinet with a PC.. so you see it takes awhile to get things..Now I know and use it.. OK I downloaded a file Spartados 3.2d from the internet and is on the PC. Now how do I move it to a floppy disk on my Atari. Here is the file :SpartaDOS_v3.2d_1986_02_17_ICD_a2.atr I hope this works as this is the "NEW" form, is VERY FAST and neat but a learning curve... I have AVG card, fujinet sd card, IDE+2 F1, Sdrive-Max, and few other things.. No a have not learned to use them all,YET... Also APE and Sio2usb.. I have tried to cross over with APE and the file makes it but does not "RUN" load etc. just say's "not a binary file" One of the files I transferred to the Atari WORKED in the Altirra (when I can figure out how to work it) did not work in the Atari.. Peter
  14. Hi, I do not have a SpartaDOS disk.. What I have is the .dos file on different forms of storage.. I have tried to load from a AVG, Fujinet and disk drive.. The disk was not formatted by x32d as I only have the ".DOS" version...Maybe the problem I am having is I don't have the complete form of the dos.. I still don't understand "mount" and yes back in the real old days I was involved with "punch cards" and yes we loaded/mounted tapes in drives with what 10 in tapes.. Now you see them in the old sifi movies. LOL I think the problem is that my old brain is slowly go downhill. What command do you use to get something to "mount". Maybe that's what I am missing... I have not worked with ISO files but know what they are... I have win10 in ISO form but never need to use it. Peter
  15. Hi @TGB1718, As you have found the x32d.dos is the file I am trying to use as the old BBS was a ICD Sparta Dos and will not run on Sparta Dos X or other doses.. I have the BBS program on a CL card in the IDE+2 f1 and most of the parts try to go but the whole program wants x32d.dos to start to run.. I may have to change some of the drives and thing to get up.. I have other programs that I have moved from the PC to Atari via APE but after moving them they just don't start "not a binary file" I am sorry I do not understand the term "mount". I guess we did not use that term back in the 80's. Thanks for the help.. Peter

Hope some one reads it..
  17. OK I know all of you know this answer but now I want to know also.. I down load files from the site. Files like sd32.atr Sparta Dos file x32d.dos and when I try to run it, it say's "Not a binary file"... OK so how do I get it to be a binary file... Also I down load a file from the TNFS guys thru Fujinet and when I try to run it the file just starts to load but stops and nothing happens. So I reset(power off) and try again.. What is the secret to downloading files and get them to run... EDIT: This happens with non-dos files also... Peter
  18. OK I agree!!! Now how do "we" try to get my skill level to a place that I can do the things I am asking??? Not wanting to change the thread but I have used the IDE2plus to do things that the AVG can not..(use the fat16 partition to copy files to the APT partition etc) As I see it the AVG is just a big HDD look-a-like and all you can do is play games from it but not use it for a support for the Atari as a saving device. Namely, you can not save back to it, or at least I have not found away except with a PC/MAC etc. Kind of hard if you are on a Atari to save thru and PC/MAC.. I am not sure why you have to buy more equipment so you can use the different devices?? (side3/U1mb etc).(I have both and about ALL the new devices out for the Atari) Also ONE thing that really makes me "mad" is why I have to buy/have a PC or MAC to use the new things for Atari.. Never needed them back in the days (80's). Sorry for the rant I will find something else to do for a few days to "cool" down and come back later.. Peter
  19. @Beeblebrox Thanks for the upbeat... I have been here for about 1.5 years and still don't know some of the shortcut names.. I will try harder.. @DjayBee I when I said "When I bought the AVG cart, SD-max, IDE 2 plus,Fujinet, etc I was buying a substitute for a HARD DRIVE.. " I meant that I thought I was buying a HDD for the addition to the Atari computer to store all the programs on and also could add/move files to floppy disks. As I wanted to repair a few floppies that I have.. So I need some of the files on F.D. I did find on the AVG cart a "copy" (control+c) but it does not appear to copy files from the AVG to anything that I can find.. I will keep trying... Peter
  20. @Beeblebrox No I do not want to go back to MSdos world. I just want to understand the "new" Atari world.. I was a SYSOP of a BBS back in the days 80's and was a member of a Atari user group, etc... BUT I am having trouble understanding the new equipment and how it works... I guess my age is catching up with me... Peter
  21. OK one last try. When I bought the AVG cart, SD-max, IDE 2 plus,Fujinet, etc I was buying a substitute for a HARD DRIVE.. One that you could hook up to the ATARI 8 bit and use it as storage... BUT what I have found that without an PC, MAC, etc they do not work.. All I can understand is that they can hold a LOT of Atari files and serve then one at a time to the Atari that is hooked up to them... Can not transfer the files to a floppy disk etc... You can run many "files" from the "HDD" and can save to some of them but can not copy them to floppies or even to a different "HDD" device... OR I am missing something... Peter Above was created as I was typing so:: Yes I understand most of what fat32 is.. I probably do not understand the "ATR" part of it but think it is like a EXE in the msdos world. A file that will run with out help. I have a SIDE 3 but have not used it as the above "sd" drives have me wondering if I should sell all my Atari and just go back to PC's... I also have the u1mb but not installed. Need to get a handle on the stuff I do have.. Now you say "mount".. What is THAT??? I think the problem I am having is that after 40years the language has changed.
  22. What I was trying to ask is HOW does the copy work?? Maybe IF you can show how to use the copy them I could use it. Can you copy a file from the cart to a disk drive?? If so how? What do you have to do to make it work.. What cmd's do you need to do it..Maybe you could show me the cmd's ?? Sorry I got carried away with more than one question.. Peter
  23. OK I did what the notes on the AVG said but did not get to the point I was trying to get to.. I tried the "COPY" and it said where to: and I could not tell it where it was to copy to..I tried D1:, tried "A" tried juat 4, but it did not let me type the ":" and did nothing.. Also what is MOUNTING a file mean What is the actual meaning of that...Back in the 80's we just loaded programs or run them by calling them out in the dos menu... Sorry for asking new be questions but I guess I need a fifth grade dictionary. All I wanted to do is move 3 files from the cart to a disk.. One is a dos prog. an ATR, one is the APT tool kit an ATR and the last was the vtoc.com. I have them on the cart but need them on the disk.. Peter
  24. Just my 2 cents... I do not use external rosin flux while soldering...I use Rosin Core Solder. It has the flux in it...Now when I de- solder(remove old parts) I use the flux external to help with the solder to melt and get out of the way with a "pop" sucker or most of the time solder wick (most solder wick has flux in it). Use a good rosin core solder and a small thickness (.8mm) and you will be fine.. Also use a SMALL tip soldering iron, maybe around 6oo to 700 degrees I use a tip at 850 but I have been soldering for 50 years.. I have all the tools to do the job.. Peter
  25. Hi ALL!!! Well here is a question for all the AVGCART people and the FUJINET ,IDE 2 plus etc... I ask this in the AVG thread because it is the one I am using... OK the problem.. I have, lets say, a MyDOS, took kit and a vtoc tool all in a directory on the VAG. Now I can load the MyDOS, but I need the tool kit to work on a new ssd. So I want to move the dos and the files to a floppy disk to use when I add a new Cl card to the IDE 2+. I hope I am asking this correctly .. I want to copy /mount the dos on the disk and add the tools and other files that are on the AVG. Does any one know the step by step way to do this. I can of course get the dos to the disk but how do I get the files to the disk??? I think a question like this ask been ask before but I have not seen a answer... Peter
