  1. I might bid for it. There is still time. I will consider the fact that its possible that sound cannot be fixed and place my bid accordingly.
  2. STe in question works otherwise. Its just the sound. It comes with an Atari mouse, so I would at least get that for my Mega ST4. I have a multi-meter, so I could make some measurements. So far I have been pretty lucky with these retro-machines and they are in working condition for the most part. Would not be a disaster if this would be a spare for parts in the end. Did not bid yet, have to think of it and keep looking for alternatives.
  3. It just gives continuous distorted noise. Seller speculated that it could be PSU causing it. The thing is that its hard to know for sure, just like you said. I might be able to get it working by reseating some chips or by installing a new PSU. If its harder than that I might end up having STe without sound.
  4. Thanks! As a newbie had no good idea of where to put this.
  5. I have been interested in computers and videogames, arcade and console games since I was a kid in the 70´s. Not just games but computer HW and SW, different models, versions and their capabilities. This forum has had good info and I decided to register. I got that excellent 1000 games image for my Atari Mega ST4s ultrasatan from here. Thanks for that, works like a charm. I have been able to get myself a bit of a collection of retro computers and consoles but I just got my first Ataris recently. Ataris have intrigued me for some time now. The first time I got excited about an Atari computer was when Atari Falcon was released. 030 power! I felt a bit disappointed about the launch of A1200 and A4000. I had been waiting for something like AAA, but instead Commodore gave AGA. I read everything I could about the machine but never saw a falcon. A friend of mine nowadays has a Falcon with CT60 and SuperVidel. Great machine. My immersion with Amigas in late 80s was too great to understand the finer qualities of the ST-line then. These days I dont have interest in such tribalism anymore. Both are excellent computers with their strengths and weaknesses. It was now time for me to get an ST. I managed to find a perfectly working Mega ST4. It came with Megafile 30. Keyboard did not have a cable but hey, it came with a keyboard! I opened the computer and to my delight I saw that it had an Atari Sound Accelerator inside :) -DSP in my Atari! I have no idea what to do with that but anyway. I got UltraSatan drive for it and it works great. I replaced the old chassis fan with a Noctua and its nice and silent. PSU seems to work for now. Maybe have to replace it at some point. I load the TOS 1.4 from a floppy. 1.2 is on 2 ROM chips. I use usb mouse and PS/2 keyboard through adapter now. Waiting for that keyboard cable. I like the styling of the computer very much. Maybe a month ago I got myself an Atari Jaguar. I have one game -Rayman. Good game and console has been flawless. Been eyeing a STe, but seller says it has sound problem. Im not sure if I can get that fixed if I buy it. Thats holding me back somewhat. In the future it might be nice to score a TT30 or that Falcon. I have been checking their prices with nitros at hand on Ebay. That 1000 games image I found is excellent. I have been wondering if there is similar images of programs like Atari Works and sysinfo? Atari was in professional use so those should be possible to find. I mean, I have downloaded MSA and STX files of those and many more but I have no idea how to make them work in UltraSatan or Gotek, or how to copy those to floppies.
