  1. I received the screwdrivers yesterday. I opened the console and cleaned the connector, the on/off switch and the reset switch. I also scrubbed the case, inside and out since it was covered with many years of dirt. Put it all back together and it's working perfectly. Some of the games weren't working, so I also took apart all of the game cartridges and polished the contacts. Today I took the controller apart and cleaned it. Everything is working perfectly now. Thanks @Tanooki!
  2. Thank you. I ordered the screwdriver for the case screws, so it will be a few days before I can open the case to do the cleaning. I'll post after I have a go at the operation!
  3. I can desolder the connector if necessary, that's not a problem for me. Would you recommend boiling it to clean, like they do with the NES connector, or just leaving it in place and giving it a good brushing with some alcohol or contact cleaner and a soft toothbrush?
  4. We just brought our original SNES out of the closet, and we're having a hard time getting any of the games to work. A few of the cartridges were extremely dirty, so I cleaned the contacts. Even so, most of the games won't start. I'm thinking that the internal connector is the problem just as much as the games themselves. Is this console like the NES as far as it being better to give the original connector a good cleaning versus replacing it with junky chinese garbage? The console powers on fine, and once a game starts they do seem to play like they're supposed to do. Also, are there any mods/tricks to help the console work better? Thanks in advance!
  5. Here's a great video on how to replace the belts. I ordered my belts from Console5, but I just checked and they're out of stock right now. Hopefully them get them back in stock, the ones I received seemed to be good quality and they fit properly. They only other kits I found were on ebay and they are two belt kits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKon104RpOI
  6. I tried to look up SIOctopus. All that I found were articles about real octopi! Just what is a SIOctopus?
  7. I added @the_crayon_king's RBG setup to my original model 1 and it made a HUGE difference. Highly recommended!
  8. I got my copy late last week and finished reading it yesterday. A lot of the book is descriptions of individual games, but there is a ton on info about Mattel, the hardware, software and so much more. I thought I knew a lot about Intellivision, having owned one since new, but I gained a vast amount of knowledge from this book. I also ordered a copy of Breakout, the author's book about the Atari 8 bit machines. I've had an Atari 800 since new also!
  9. I don't have the tools to do that. Is having that test cart worth the time and effort it would take to make one?
  10. Is this something worth having? https://www.ebay.com/itm/195718378556?
  11. Just ordered the paperback copy, and a copy of his book about the Atari 8 bit computers!
  12. I had a fire at my house about a month ago and I'm looking to replace my destroyed 2609 console. I'm trying to avoid fleabay. Anyone have a decent unit?
