  1. Sounds like something is shorted, possibly a capacitor?
  2. Well once I replaced that cap it had HV (I could hear it) for about 2 seconds before some transistors popped there tops (made the worst smell too). I'm not sure where I'll find a parts list for it so I've kinda given up. If you know a where I can get a parts list/schematic I may try and work on it some more.
  3. I'm bored, give me some good C64 games to play

I enjoyed Tapper on the C64. Anything AD&D Goldbox is fun for a few hours to kill. Maybe some Monster Munch?

  4. Darn selenium rectifiers!

  5. Got my first Pentium 2! I sure like the processor card, I'd really like to see a modern CPU card.

Really loved the Slot 1 form factor; had a dual P3/600 in it.  Great machine, but crappy motherboard (EPoX KP6-BS) build quality.  Also had an 8-way P2/233 in a dishwasher form factor at work that was specifically used for SMP testing.  That thing was a beast :D

Too few pins for a modern CPU, and the extended traces add capacitance and induction issues. Also make a parallel bus for DDR at current speeds very tough, but a system-on-card with a shared PCI-e backplane might be viable.

  6. Thanks! I thought I saw someone write Apple ][ disks but I guess not. 😕
  7. Got my first AOL 1045 Hours free CD! 😆

I lived in the SF Bay Area where they were obviously oversold on their capacity. It was s--t. Maybe elsewhere it was OK. Pacific Bell was like my first tape of a dumb pipe with enough capacity. I remember AOL had a lot of problems with their networks back then.

No, it wasn't "ok" here.  It was good to great.  And I didn't hear or read stories like yours back then, either.  So, clearly, people didn't have a lot of problems with AOL where I lived.

I just meant OK in terms of it clearly being a legit service for you, not on a spectrum of 1 to 10 but sounds like it was a 8 to 10 for you which was cool. But in some areas it was a problem that made the news a lot. In some areas, their capacity was way oversold. I heard of people calling to cancel and being offered 2-3 months of free AOL to stay. Me I said, meh, goodbye to AOL. 2 months of that was enough punishment.

  8. I recently got a Laser 128 and a PC 5.25" floppy drive, I plan to put the drive in a Pentium 2 to write disks for my Laser 128. I'm having trouble finding software to write Apple ][ disks on PC, what is the best piece of software to do so?
  9. I removed the 10,000uf capacitor to inspect it, it is in very bad condition and is leaking. (Note to self, buy an LCR meter.)
  10. All the voltages are in the 5% range the service manual says.
  11. I replaced it and it still crashes. The 10,000uf capacitor is not in very good shape, could it also be a problem?
  12. It's coming in the post today so I'll change it today or tommorrow.
  13. This one was modded to support 4164 chips that used +5. I did some reading and as long as pin 1 is connected to ground it will be fine.
  14. By the way, the RAM chips I swapped are 41256s. All the pins match except pin 1 is NC on a 4164 and A8 on a 41256. Is it safe to leave these chips in the machine?
  15. Yeah mine does look bulged, I'll replace it.
