  1. I'm using ATADIM 3.05 with Win 11, and I keep running into an issue with ATR's being shown as Read Only (according to ATADIM).  So that means that I cannot import files to that ATR.  If I look at the Windows Properties of the ATR, they invariably have the RO box not checked.  In many cases, these same ATR's have been marked RW in Altirra.  Can anyone shed any light on this?

  2. Obviously several ways to skin the proverbial cat.  I found Win APE (with USB) the easiest, and I did hundreds of unprotected disks, years ago.  Registered APE is Da bomb! "Trial" APE is nearly as good for this application.

In the meantime, thanks to everyone's input, I've decided to start with a SUBAVG Cart. Thanks to everyone who provided great info for an 8-bit newb.

Do also consider the SIO connector cable.  It's like $11, and also the PBI cable if those fit the budget.  You are paying shipping, so getting the accessory cables at the same time is a good move.  The SIO cable really adds to the capability of the SUBAVG CART, and the PBI gives you expanded memory.

  4. Has anyone seen or used one of these?  It is an add-on board for the 800 similar to Omnimon or maybe more accurately, similar to the original RamRod board.  I've tried to translate this, but Google Translate keeps asking if I want to translate TO German.  Anyway, here is the original PDF and a page-split PDF of the Rom Wizard PDF.  I suspect the major issue is that the PDF is of pretty poor quality.  Any suggestions for getting this machine translated would be appreciated.

  5. No, not that kind of autosave. Probably autosave is not a very good description.  If you modify a disk image and then unmount it, the modified form is returned to its origin.  You don't have to take any additional actions.  The original version is history, unless you have a backup.  There are pro's and con's to both methods. As if you put a real disk in a drive and modify it, that's what you have.

    Hi!

Perhaps you could try reading the help of the emulator?

Hint: right of the menu that was shown in the shot above.

    Have Fun!

I think what he means is auto-save like in APE.  I didn't find anything like that mentioned in the Altirra HELP.  Altirra can be a little overwhelming.  Especially if you are not a steady user.

  7. First I'd heard of the Backbit multi-cart.  Nothing but this thread on AA that I could find, but some more info from Google.  I did get the basics -- it's a multi-platform cart with adapters (and probably selection jumpers) to use with C64, Atari, PC jr,  TI, etc.  Really interesting product for folks that have several platforms.

  8. Presuming that the case is injection molded, the tooling and probably the materials would be the lowest cost with the flat surfaces of the 400. Personally, I think the 400 is not esthetically pleasing and makes a poor representative for the Atari line.  And if it sells well and they make a maxi, it will have another membrane keyboard?

  9. That looks really nice.  Very clean and neat-looking!

BTW, there were a few NTSC 65XE's sold in the U.S. that had the ECI.  But from what I can tell, a very small percent.  I've got one, and it has the two-ram chip board, which I upgraded to 128K and then ultimately to 320K using a small board sold by A8-Maestro (More Than Games).

  10. Oops!  I forgot that the Kiwi was a two-step load.  But still, go to archive.org (search for Atari Archiver), and scroll down -- you'll find a nice assortment of Archiver/Editor software.

    IIRC:

1.x is the original Archiver software

    2.x is the Super Archiver

3.x is the enhanced density Super Archiver

My favorite copy programs from BITD.

Edit:  I just tested the original  Archiver/Editor 1.0 after originally booting with Kiwi (with real hardware and Altirra), and they appear to work fine.

  11. 1050 version?  (I'm not sure if an 810 R7 Happy Archiver existed.)  Assuming you're looking for the 1050 version, this one works:

1050 to Kiwi Chip Archiver (attached)  There are a couple floating around that do not work.

Manual available at archive.org -- search for Atari Archiver.

BTW, once you have loaded the original Archiver, then you can boot the Super Archiver and gain several features.

  12. I wonder if we will be able to connect a USB Floppy Drive to the Mini as they have with TheC64 Mini?  But the disk cannot be formatted in modern Windows, apparently.  I don't know if anyone has solved that issue, or not.  Link, if you haven't seen the video...

EDIT:  Evidently the floppy formatting issue can be solved with Linux (as well as a Mac).
