  1. My intention with this topic was more so to know if the flashback portable project my have been put on hold/delayed due to the discovery/knowledge of the gameport . There is no disputing the technical differences and advantages from one unit to the other. In fact only people that work closely to these projects would know all of the differences of these products. That is why I posted this topic to begin with , So that the individuals that don't know can be a little bit more informed about what is currently happening in the gaming industry. It would be safe to say that everyone here is eager to get there hands on a portable that can play their favorite 2600 games and right now the gameport is the only thing we have had a glimpse of that comes close to making that a reality.
  2. There is no question about that. But if you read curts original post on this topic .... "Have a question for everyone - Would everyone be happy if there were a FB2 Portable handheld with 2.5" TFT and a USB connection to a PC to d/l games into it and perhaps push the FB3 back as a later release? " The only way to download to a portable via USB is to use some type on rom box. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
  3. I was just at benheck's website and saw the Gameport and a link to it's site www.gameport.tv . Is it possible that the future of the flashback portable was put on hold due to the development of the Gameport . It currently runs 2600 and colecovision cores and possibly other systems . Any comments???? gameport.bmp
  4. -----"It would still be possible, we're hanging a USB mass storage device and connecting it into the cartridge lines, so the lines will be there, whether there will be enough space to include the contact points, we'll have to see."------- Would the USB mass storage device you mentioned for the FB3 work as well for the FB2 ? If so, is it a storage device a hobbiest can put together and add to the FB2 or is this a storage device specifically designed for the FB3???
  5. Given that the proposed FB2 Portable would have uploading game capabilities, Are there any plans to also include solder pads for a port addition as does the FB2 for all out mod posibilities??????????
  6. I found this item on Ebay that has a number of the features that have been mentioned on this thread. Is this possibly what we could be looking at but with the "2600 woody feel" ?
  7. Hello members, Will there be a contest in the future for designing the Box art, advertising, etc... for the FB3. Perhaps the winner can recieve a FREE FB3. Wishful thinking.....
  8. Thanks everyone. It has been a fun project to work on.The parts were purchased on Ebay. Here is the link to the vender I used. The stickers on the sides were also ordered from a vender on Ebay. The size I requested was a special order, I just gave him the size I needed and they were very helpful. They currently have a smaller one listed (listing #)8245462706 Moe....
  9. Hello Guys,Just wanted to give you all a look at the FB2 Arcade machine I'm completing.Just need a few finishing touches like the graphics on the front panels and the main power switch that will be located on the back side.I used happ controls and purchased the plugs at radio shack to plug into the console. The yellow buttons are reset ,the greens are select.Since the FB2 requires to power down to go back to the main menu.I wired the white switch normally closed in series with the orange power wire in the FB2.The power button on the FB2 stays on and when the white button is pressed it goes right to the main menu. The main switch in the back powers down the entire machine. The small PC board has switches removed from the TV's board to control the TV's on/off , volume select , channel select if needed. My friend is trying to get keep it here at our office but I told him "Its for the KIDS!!!!!" who knows maybe I'll install a port in the future..... For those who might ask why all this work for the FB2 instead of a mame unit.Well its for the kids so its straight forward to use and I don't have to worry about having to fix a non-booting PC on my day off!!!!!!!!
  10. Why has there been poor quality control when it comes to the actual solder work in the Flashback units .I just opened another Fb2 Rev B and not only are there globs of solder but also burn marks on the surface of the PC board. Some of the SMD look like they want to fall off the board. When I studied electronics my teacher would have given me an "F" if i'd turn in work like that..........What's the deal?
  11. instead of dumping the code ,how about unsoldering the chip which contains the games and soldering it to a blank board. right before leaving to work I started checking continuity from the chip to the solder points 1~24 used for the cart mod. I wasn't able to finish, almost late for work.(The things we do for the 2600) but before I stopped I did identify more than half of the pins .Next step is to see what voltage is being applied to it and which pins. I have a defective game I'll use for the test and hope for the best. .........Hey that rhymes...........
  12. Post #3 states "final FB2 product". Does this mean that there was a prototype unit built like the one on the box? cart slot ......different button layout.........looks slightly larger than the current Fb2?
  13. Comtari, I've looked online but can't find it. Is the name Pelican or is this the manufactuer.Any help would be great .Thanks..........Moe
  14. Is there something else to be done after 1972 is entered via joystick.I've tried it a few times and I don't get the 2 extra games.Thanks...........
