  1. Wondered why the electric stove was cooking things too fast and found out. My meter says 125 volts at the regular outlets, so the stove is getting 250!

      It seems like AEP keeps trying to push the voltage up. It already runs at 120 all the time here anymore.

      The burners require 240v to work. The 120v outlet is only tied to one of the hot lines that carry 120v. That's why stoves and dryers have 3 pronged plug into a special outlet. Check your wall outlets, they should be the same voltage as the 120v outlet on your stove. I once worked at an electronic repair shop and in the evening when all the advertising signs up & down the streets kicked in, voltage would drop down to 100v! Power company had to put in another transformer on the line...

      Actually we did check the other outlets in the house to be sure. All were 125 as of yesterday. Not good on vintage electronics either!
