  1. Got a nice, working Sega Genesis (second model) for $30 this evening. Now I can play my games since I can't find the one I used to have.

Money well spent!!!     And in case you wondered, I love my Analogue Mega SG!  If you ever feel the need to luxuriate and want to get the Genesis into HD, well they're the Cat's Meow!

  2. Finally found my Sega Genesis games and also tested my Sega Nomad with my CiB TaleSpin cart and it still works. Sadly, the LCD screen is starting to show its age. Now, I might buy one of those nice Sega Flashbacks with the cartridge slot.

Just for the record,  I had an early ATGames Genesis handheld,  and the cart slot wore out on it ridiculously fast!  I think I only ever changed games about 3 times and it was shot!   The built in games still work fine, but of course the game I was addicted to (Ultimate Qix) isn't one of them.   I'd like to think they have improved over the years...I've still bought and had almost no issues with any of their console Flashbacks (Multiple Atari, ColecoVision, Inty, Genesis, etc.)...But it took me a long time to trust them again.

  3. After seeing Disney was going to reboot more movies, I've decided to rename their CEO Bob 'Retread Man' Iger. Seems to be all his version of Disney is able to do.

^^ I agree about the Star Wars "Expanded Universe" stuff, which reads like a really crappy Space Silmarillion.  Nothing there worth mining for stories, although Disney's own Star Wars stories haven't been that great either (at least in the movies).  Star Trek has had similar problems telling good stories in the last ~10 years, but it has better ancillary material to draw from; in retrospect, they should have just adapted some of the better Star Trek novels.  Unfortunately, in terms of their influence and relevance, I think both franchises are just about dead.

@Flojomojo  If I was born 20 years before you that would make you 8 years old... and I'm pretty sure you aren't. I'm 28, born in 1990...

      Flojomojo

@DragonGrafx-16 I am 20 years older than you, not the other way around. I regret my error and will report to the punishment cubicle post haste.

@jaybird3rd I took a long break from Star Trek and have yet to watch some of TNG and most of DS9 and Voyager. I wonder how that colors one's view of the franchise?

@GoldLeader Star Wars borrowed heavily from Flash Gordon and WWII movies (I gotta watch The Dam Busters someday), and the big clone fights are supposed to evoke the Vietnam war. I feel like the bomber run in The Last Jedi is also homage to a WWII film, but don't know the genre well enough to say which one.

Maybe they'll remake some Disney films in anime style next, that always brings out such warm feelings in everyone. ?

  4. I've decided that Disney and Hollywood have lost all their magic and that we are currently in a dark ages both idea-wise and movie-goer wise...

    1. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

Yup.  Totally creatively bankrupt, and corrupted by loudmouth politics.  Good thing there are enough old movies to keep one entertained for life without ever having to give another penny to modern Hollywood.  That's my plan.

Watching the older movies and shows I already love is what I have been mostly doing now. The last movie I watched in the theater was Deadpool 2 and nothing else has moved me to part with my money. Of course with all these reboots and such, the audience is as much to blame as the studies. Even though so much of what we are getting is cheap, regurgitated slop, people still can't seem to keep from rushing to watch the stuff. If people would quit voting with their money, the studios, especially Disney, would start to feel the pinch.

  5. Does Best Buy ever have the Replicade units in stock? Ours has had the tag and spot for about a year, but I've never seen a unit there! I just about cussed out a manager today over that..

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

At least you have a Best Buy!  I had to make do with Circuit City (R. I. P.),  Well technically there's a Best Buy 50 miles from here...That's where I bought my computer ;)

But I know how ya feel...Been out of the socks I want at WalMart for 3 months, when they finally get some in,  it's ONE PACK!!   (I dunno...Is that the same?   I think it's the same!...)

Damn those Replicades are a lotta dough on Ebay!

    2. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Also did you ask if they're getting any more in?  And what did they say?  For the record WalMart told me the day the socks I wanted should be in and they weren't,...But one pack made it to the other location ...ONE!

    3. simbalion

      simbalion

I hate asking if they are going to get something in when it's obviously been out of stock for almost a year now. Also, they usually say 'Oh we can order that!' and usually with my work schedule I can't get back up there! Also, driving a van with a dead AC sucks!

The NES game was lame compared to the platforming style game offered on other systems. Makes me want to slap Capcom silly!

  7. It's so nice trying to teach today's brain-dead, phone addicted youth at work. It seems once the phone is gone, they can't understand anything or function.

"Do I have to spell it out for you!?!?!".  Yes, you do have to spell it out for them.  That's why emoji were invented.

  8. Got Tales of the Gold Monkey on DVD and watched the 'making of' extra. I was rather shocked to find out the show WAS truly a hit and was only cancelled due to ABC playing network politics. No wonder Disney had to bail them out later on!

  9. I looked into a Paypal prepaid card and after looking at the fees, I realized the crap isn't worth the fuss for what little I would use it for. If one can't take cold hard cash, they don't need my business! Geeze...

  11. Wondered why the electric stove was cooking things too fast and found out. My meter says 125 volts at the regular outlets, so the stove is getting 250!

      simbalion

It seems like AEP keeps trying to push the voltage up. It already runs at 120 all the time here anymore.

    3. SoundGammon

      SoundGammon

The burners require 240v to work. The 120v outlet is only tied to one of the hot lines that carry 120v. That's why stoves and dryers have 3 pronged plug into a special outlet. Check your wall outlets, they should be the same voltage as the 120v outlet on your stove. I once worked at an electronic repair shop and in the evening when all the advertising signs up & down the streets kicked in, voltage would drop down to 100v! Power company had to put in another transformer on the line...

    4. simbalion

      simbalion

Actually we did check the other outlets in the house to be sure. All were 125 as of yesterday. Not good on vintage electronics either!

  12. My German EMUD T7 radio has a pretty sweet sound.

The way I see it, toys are so overpriced when they first hit market anymore. And if they're licensed, even more so. Clearance prices put most of that crap back down to earth, where it belongs.

Seems that way with a lot of movies and TV shows lately: either the fans love it and the critics hate it - or the critics love it but the fans hate it!

I put more weight in fans opinions than critics. Look at Queen, they got bashed a lot by critics yet are considered one of the greatest of not the greatest band of all time!

  17. I love watching wannabe urban cowboys try to maneuver their over-sized pickups in parking lots! Fact is: Americans are driving bigger vehicles, yet stores and companies are trying to cram more parking spaces into the same area. So, each time the lines are repainted the spaces get a bit narrower along with the aisles in between.

99% of pickups are owned by people who never use more than 1% of the cargo capacity. I just made that up, but it's probably pretty close to the actual numbers.

  18. After seeing what people seem to like in stories and movies anymore, dark endings and such, if I ever write a movie I will do totally the opposite of that and make a wacky hero just to tick everyone off! :)

How about 90 percent of video games needing to have demons or depressing, blood-stained gooey scenery? It's hard to find a console game that isn't happy happy joy joy kiddie crap or demonic garbage.

Had to go to the local urgent care to get checked out. Started the antibiotics yesterday, so am getting on the mend and finally got some sleep last night. Started bothering me Sunday after dinner and I was up all night in agony.

  22. Stupid idiot almost rammed into my van twice on the way home tonight. He flew past me and then almost got me in the front end cutting back in too quick. Gave him the 'salute' twice and he did the same to me as he blew through a red light.
