  1. Looking for an XBOX 1 console box. Seen a few around to buy locally but they always come with an XBOX and I don't need another one right now...
  2. Not sure what forum this should be in since it spans Classic and Modern gaming...feel free to reposition it where it belongs! Just picked up Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition, which is in 3-D. I know the 3-D is a gimmick...but it's a gimmick I love. Along these lines I also picked up a copy of boxed copies of Rad Racer and 3-D WorldRunner for the NES (missing the glasses, of course). Are there any other 3-D games out there that people know of? Ones that actually employ the old red and blue cardboard glasses? Haven't cracked the seal on Arkham Asylum, gonna give it a try tonight...curious as to how the 3-D will look... BTW, anyone in the situation like I was with 3-D games or movies but missing the glasses my local Blockbuster is selling a bunch of them. Two pairs of generic glasses for a buck. Looks like I'll keep the Arkham Asylum ones sealed.
  3. Wandered into a video store that had a ton of VHS for sale. Nothing interesting. Had some Genesis and N64 games for sale but all sports games. But then I spotted on a top shelf some sealed vintage video games. There was some Genesis (a Star Trek game I think), maybe some PS1's? Snagged a sealed mint copy of Back to the Future for NES. They had another sealed copy and a sealed copy of Dick Tracy NES as well. Not a great find...paid twenty bucks...but I never see anything sealed in the wild, and I figured if I didn't pick it up I'd regret it. Nice addition to the collection even if it was overpriced...thoughts?
  4. I've been thinking about picking up an N-Gage QD... What can you do with one of these? I know it'll play N-Gage games but how well does it function as a PDA? Is there much of a hacking community for these babies?
  5. Fair enough dude, thought it was worth a shot!
  6. Hey there! Just got a 7800 and I'm looking for the European Controller Pads. I know I can get them from Best, etc. but I figured I'd check here first and see if anybody had 1 or 2 extra that they'd be willing to part with.
  7. Picked up for the NES - Super Mario Bros. 1, Rad Racer and 3-D Worldrunner. All $10 apiece which is steep, but boxed, which is nice. Unfortunately Rad Racer and 3-D Worldrunner were missing the 3-D glasses but I have a few pairs lying around.
  8. Cool. Thanks guys. I think I'll pick these up for the NES and check out the real 3-d.
  9. It's nostalgia for me, definitely. But another BIG aspect of it is being able to get my hands on games and consoles that I couldn't afford when I was a kid. Being able to go buy an Atari game for a couple bucks that I've never played before is awesome. Grabbing a Sega Master System at Valvill for $15 when I only got to play it at friend's houses when I was younger is incredible. Unfortunately, that leads to a lot of consoles and not a lot of storage space...
  10. Hey guys! I only recently discovered the "3-D" NES games Worldrunner, Worldrunner II (J) and Rad Racer... I knew of Rad Racer of course, but didn't know it could be played in 3-D mode. Well I tried them running through an emulator with a pair of old-school 3-d glasses I had lying around (Red + Cyan (Blue)) and they were....ok...not great...but I didn't expect them to be great. I'm wondering if they run better with actual cartridges on an actual NES as opposed to an emulator. I was running them through my modded Xbox to a Sony LCD. Anybody have any experience with these games? Thoughts?
  11. Thanks for the tips -- wish I'd known about Fry's.com earlier -- I paid $60 for my player (shipping included so not horrible) but no hd-dvd's with it...great deals on Fry's. The amazon.com deals are great too but I'm Canadian and amazon.ca doesn't seem to have as low prices -- even with expected exchange rates. In any case, mine isn't too loud and I use it for my regular DVD's too and the picture is great. I'd love to broaden my collection and probably will via ebay. If any fellow Canadian's are looking for HD-DVD's yes, Zellars is a good place to look. Also, check your local Dominion / Loblaw's / SaveEasy mega grocery store with an electronics department -- I've found tons of Hd-dvd's there in bins. Anyone else got any interesting sources?
  12. Hey guys, I recently picked up the HD-DVD Player. And yes, I know it's obsolete. I just bought a 32" Sony Bravia LCD and it's going to be awhile before I can afford a PS3 (I figure why buy a Blu-Ray Player when I can chuck out the extra $ and get a PS3) and I found a few dirt cheap HD-DVD titles around so I thought, why not? It's great and there is (surprisingly) more HD-DVD titles around than I thought there would be. Anyone else still rocking this piece of hardware and, if so, how easy are people finding it to pick up titles since the format war ended? 13. Here's a strategy that I use for the village ... mind you I've played through 4re several times on GCN and Wii so I'm pretty familiar with the gameplay. First continually circle the area, fighting when necessary but, most importantly loading up on whatever ammo is around. Then enter the house that triggers Dr. Salvador (chainsaw ganado), push the shelf in front of the door to buy some time, grab whatever ammo/health is on the first floor (under the stairs in a cabinet and two barrels) then head upstairs, grabbing the shotgun, grenage and herb. If the ganados have put a ladder up to the window, push it off then head back to the other window that leads out on the roof. Go around the corner of the roof until you are on the peak that has a spinel on it. Wait there for the ganados to approach, from here you can see them coming around the corner and down the length of roof that leads to you. You can unload on them with grenades, shotgun and handgun. One thing to remember with 4re is generally the knife and handgun will do more specific damage to an enemy in my opinion. For example you'll fight a REALLY tough enemy later that the knife actually makes short work of, although you'd never think to risk using it on him. In any case, since you can't get close to Dr. Salvador with the knife, use the handgun on him, headshots whever possible. Other people may find the shotgun works better but I prefer headshots with the handgun to take the good Dr. out. Personal preference I suppose! Learn to hit that inventory button so you can switch weapons quickly and be ready to fire when you come out of the inventory screen. Also if you have a chance to reload, do it, even if you've only used one bullet so you're always fully loaded. The great thing about this spot is if you're swamped with enemies, quick-turn and jump off the roof, circle the house and you can head right back up there again and start over. This is the method I use and after some practice it works great. Hope that helps and isn't too confusing...
  14. Good question! I'm actually from Central and I certainly never saw a 7800 in a store. In fact I only knew one person who even had one. Given the fact that I've found tons of 2600's in the wild and NO 7800's may be a strong indicator that 7800's may not have been popular in our neck of the woods...maybe??

    7800 vs. 2600

Totally! I'm looking forward to getting mine up and running!

    7800 vs. 2600

Excellent stuff - I had no idea so many games were released in versions for both systems. That mock-up is great. Wouldn't hurt to have a website like that up -- the graphics comparisons are really clear.
  17. I notice you have the same cartridge holder as I do. The black one that holds two columns of games with a slot underneath for manuals, etc. They are wall mountable and can slot together from any side which is pretty neat. According to the back these were made in Canada and they must have made a bunch of them. I've got no less than 10 of these units that I've picked up in wild -- two that were still slotted together. I've always found these interesting and haven't been able to find any info on them on the net. Just bring it up because I noticed it in your pic and hadn't seen one outside of my collection ever!

    7800 vs. 2600

Cool! That's great info guys...just out of curiousity, how many games were released in both 2600 and 7800 incarnations?
  19. Hey, as mentioned in a separate thread I finally got a 7800! I've been collecting 2600 carts for a long time and have a fair-sized collection. Was wondering about titles available in both 2600 and 7800 form. Since I know the 7800 is backwards compatible I was wondering if there were any titles that are vastly improved given a 7800 makeover and are worth douple dipping. I know the obvious answer is "all of them" but I'm looking for titles that are really worth rebuying in 7800 format.
  20. I live in town but rarely make it to the Flea Market but it's usually pretty interesting. You're right, yesterday was particularly good!
  21. Thanks for all the great info, guys! Yes, I'm in Newfoundland and that 7800 was the very one I picked up. I don't know how much luck you've had finding 7800's but I've never seen one in the wild here before and had to pick it up. I'm going to get a Euro-style gamepad from Best and I have a bunch of good, working 2600 sticks lying around. And my apologies, my copy of One-On-One is, of course, with Dr. J and Larry Bird!
  22. Thanks for the kind responses ... not to be think but I'm not up on my terminology. Let me try and get this straight -- if I install Free McBoot on my PS2 via a USB stick and my copy of Swap Magic will I then be able to boot the backups I allready have (and have been running via SwapMagic) directly...in other words without using the SwapMagic disc....OR will I have to patch the games I allready have copies of? What does ESR formatted mean and how can I tell if my backups are ESR formatted? Thanks for the information -- this is really great / interesting stuff! EDIT: Also wondering, will installing Free McBoot wipe the files on my memory card? If so, I'd like to know, as I'll pick up a second card.
  23. Yes I was looking at those and think I will go with the European gamepad.
