  1. OK, one step closer. You guys must be real wizzes because it's hard to imagine a ordinary everyday schmo figuring all of this out. Now, where do I click in the emulator page to locate the defender zip.file? how do i find it.mp4
  2. Thanks. Yeah, part of the reason I'm doing this is that I'm working on my next video for my YT channel. For Star Castle you have to have the sound or its just not the same. If you find a file that has it you will understand what I'm talking about.
  3. OK, I've got you. When it went past that first set of files that started with D I thought that was all. But how do you know which one of these files is the actual arcade game? This is all of the files inside the defender file. I don't have to download all of this to play do I? Thanks again for helping me though this. Defender Mame Files-1.mp4 through this.
  4. Thanks so much for trying to help me. However, I must still be doing something wrong. I don't recognize any of these games in these files. I must be in the wrong place?
  5. Defender, Sinistar, Gorf & Centipede Ignorant question but how do the old vector games work on a laptop computer? I would like Star Castle also but will it even work? Ignorant question #2 how do you know if the files are safe to download onto your computer? Thanks:)
  6. I freely admit to being an ignorant ass when it comes to stuff like this but I can usually bumble my way along and figure it out. But after spending a long time I'm can't get anywhere with getting a game to load. I don't want the whole library just a few of my favorite arcade games. I'm assuming that the red message means files are just incomplete or missing files so it won't boot the game? Right? I've been to two different sites to download the ROMS and they say unavailable. It was also this way for several of the arcade games that I wanted. Have the ROMS been taken down for legal reasons?
  7. I remember in the early 90s probably 91 or 92 the guy who worked at Electronics Boutique at the mall had gotten a new 486 that ran at 33Mhz. He invited several of us over to his house to play Wing Commander when he first installed it on his new computer. He also let us play The Red Baron and that was a really cool game too.
  8. It looks like the old gal was stored away well for a long time. I hope the sixer powers on and works for you. Thanks for sharing:)
  9. It's beautiful but I'm inebriated from drinking 16oz tall boys while watching the final four basketball games. You must have polished her up right? No way did she look that shiny when you first got her?
  10. I think that is good advice but it still wouldn't surprise me if the same thing wouldn't have happened anyway.
  11. I don't think I've ever played the 5200 version so I will have to try it out. It always seemed like (at least to me) that Activision didn't really enhance many of their titles on the superior systems.
  12. Over the last 8 years I've bought several items from him. One of the CX-40 sticks I bought broke when it was being used for the first time. I sent him pictures and he was quick to take care of the problem. I know that's not exactly the same as what you are dealing with but I've had only good experience's when trading with him.
  13. My buddies next door would end up having these five games that I felt like were way better than the 2600 versions. 1. Star Raiders- To me one of the coolest space sim type games ever made. It's remarkable how deep it is for its time. When I finally played the 2600 version and saw the galactic chart I knew it was no contest. 2. Pac-Man- Not the most pleasant game to play with the 5200 sticks but still........... 3. Defender- A darn good port that played well and seems to often get lost in the shuffle. 4. Centipede- The sounds feels like they stamped straight from the arcade version. Unfortunately I never had the chance to experience it with the trackball. 5. Joust- The graphics aren't as sharp as the arcade but way better than the 2600 version. No lava troll on the 2600 version and the pterodactyl cheats by switching levels off screen. I was never a huge fan of the floating eggs either. Now, there are some 5200 games that I would rather play on the 2600. I would probably throw many of Activision's titles onto that list. I still enjoy Asteroids, Berzerk, Missile Command and Space Invaders on the 2600. Atari 5200 games that my friends owned that spoiled their 2600 counterparts.
  14. I remember my Mom being seriously pissed when Coleco pulled the plug on the Colecovision and she didn't give two sh*ts about video games. Her and my Dad had worked really hard just trying to find a Colecovision to buy me for Christmas in 1982. I'm sure it's been discussed numerous times on this forum over the years but if Coleco doesn't get in deep with the Adam computer and just focuses on supporting the Colecovision does the system stay alive for a while longer?
  15. I've been playing both versions of these games lately and it's been a long, long time since I played the 2600 version. Back in the early 80's once I had access to the 5200 version I just had little desire to play the 2600 version anymore. The 2600 version is a pretty decent arcade port but what's with the floating eggs that never stop moving? It also kind of sucks that the Lava Troll isn't in the 2600 version. The Pterodactyl also cheats in the 2600 port. It will exit off screen and reappear on a different level and I don't think 5200 or even the arcade version do that. Ignorant question but were the floating eggs and the Pterodactyl not switching levels on screen done due to some sort of system limitations? More flicker if all those eggs are sitting still at once?
  16. I have been running and managing an pretty large eBay side hustle since June 2020. I had driven a commercial vehicle since the 90s but I had a horrific injury to my right ankle in 2018 and it was damaged to the point that I simply can't drive a big truck anymore. That's how I ended up doing what I currently do and I've learned quite a bit about eBay and the shipping options since then. Because of the items we sell which are large commercial items like huge circuit breakers and fuses and lots of other stuff. Thank God for eBays current and ended listings as I often knew little about these items. Anyway, I typically offer USPS Ground Advantage and USPS Priority Mail on every listing. PM is fantastic because of the flat rate options they have which are the same across all 50 states and the US Territories. Plus you can order all of the different size PM boxes from the PO for free and they will ship them to you for free also.
  17. I just finished a video to pay homage to this great game which definitely holds special memories for me. I'm so glad that my friends that lived next door had a Atari 5200 so I could really take in this classic game over 4 decades ago. I really appreciate those of you that have watched my videos and even subbed to the channel:)
  18. I played the Colecovision Jumpman Jr. also and it was a fun game. It also feels like a title that often gets lost or forgotten in the sea of platformers that existed back then.
  19. I just finished all 10 levels using the Altirra emulator. I know I never finished this years ago because I think I would have remembered it. It would take an extreme amount of dedication and lots of effort to beat this game on a real 5200 console. The game is very challenging and I'm using a standard CX-40 controller to play it. I do remember how difficult it could be to make many of the small movements and jumps while using the 5200 controllers years ago. Yeah, I could see this game causing lots of joysticks to hit the floor with frustration four decades ago.
  20. Thanks for sharing I will check this out:)
  21. Does the fact that the screen scrolls as you move along make the game a platformer or would older games like Donkey Kong also be considered a platformer?
  22. I haven't played the Colecovision version since it came out in the early 80's but I thought it had another level or two more than the other versions. This game and Jumpman Jr which was also ported to lots of different consoles and computers are kind of underrated in my opinion. I'm mean sure retro fans like most of us recognize and remember them fondly but generally they are often kind of forgotten about.
  23. Hello all:) I played the 5200 version at the neighbors back in the day and even with added challenge of the controllers I loved it. I remember renting the Colecovision version when it came out and even though it had more levels (at least I think it did) and looked just as good if not better I still seem to have more memories and fondness for the good ole 5200 version of the game. Has anybody ever played any of the computer versions of the game? Are they different better or worse than the 5200 version?
  24. I was wanting to play 2600 Star Raiders but I don't know how to figure out which keyboard keys operate the ships functions like the separate keypad controller did years ago. As you can see in my screen shot I've got it to the point where it shows that the keyboard is set for controller port #2. I just don't know how to see the keys or set up the keys for the game. Thanks:)
  25. Just my opinion but I think State Farm probably figured that changing the name at the top of the cabinet would be enough and that nobody would really even notice the artwork on the cabinet. You're talking about a 4 decade old arcade game that over 99% of the people watching the commercial are never going to make any connection of any kind anyway. State Farm has deep pockets so it wouldn't surprise me if they simply cut a check to Atari to make this go away. I guess after all of these decades the studio sound editors are going to have to get some new video game background sound effects because it might be to risky to use the gameplay sounds from 2600 Pac-Man or Donkey Kong on TV commercials, TV shows or movies anymore.
