  1. Jozsi, You should be able to get a DHCP address from your access point. I connect my cart to a switch which is connected to my router and it works just fine. That extra hop should not matter. However, I would Try it directly from your router to see what happens and also try these two things: 1. Open the Cart and make sure all the dip switches are pushed to the ON position. That sets the cart to $D500 which is the default position. 2. reseat the two logic chips (HCT138N and HCT85N) If that doesn't work, let me know. I have a couple of carts I am keeping for engineering / testing reasons and we can exchange it and then I'll repair yours.
  2. Good thought, , but the cs8900 would probably overheat if there is not enough "open space" around it. It generates a lot of heat. That is what I am looking into for the second run actually. I would have to totally redesign the board which I am willing to do. All the components would have to be surface mount devices because anything through-hole would have to be hand soldered and that would make such a small run too expensive. Also, I can probably make a single board device fit into a standard cart shell except for the RJ45 port, which would also make assembly much easier. I have to make some calls and try to get an estimate for such a board assembly before I do any engineering. I know it's possible, but I am concerned about the cost. I want to keep the cost of the cart under $50.00 if at all possible. You are very welcome. Thanks for posting the pics. It's really cool to see them out in the world and being used!
  3. There is certainly enough interest to have a second batch made. I really don't like telling people that I don't have any for them. I will do my best to get some more made. I am looking into redesigning the board so that it uses all SMD devices, so I can have a single board cart that can be manufactured by machine. I am still in the early stages of that, and so far it seems feasible. I also added everyone that requested a cart in this thread to the waiting list.
  4. No worries at all. It's amazing thing to see, when that first web data displayed for me, I was speechless. Anyway, I kinda figured the$ D500 problem would come up. Actually, the address change circuit was a stroke of genius from Steve Tucker. I was afraid it would require a bunch more logic but he came up with this simple solution, which was great! Only added the switches and one more logic chip. And one more thing, the telnet App is really touchy. It needs a lot of polishing. I have to back and look at my notes to see what commands there are. Chis Martin (Cybernoid) did the coding of that almost two years ago.
  5. That is true, but all is not lost. The few things that have been written for the Cart, map the cart at address D500, and that conflict with SpartaDOS X. HOWEVER, we designed the ability to change the address. The cartridge has a set of DIP switches that controls the location. The way the circuit works is with a comparator chip that makes sure the selected address from the dip switches matches the high nibble (A4 to A7) and then sends a logic high to the A1 input of 74LS138, which sends high outputs 02 and 03. Reads/writes to unselected ranges would strobe O0 and O1 on the 138, which is now unconnected, and accesses to the user specified range would strobe O2/O3. (see the schematic on the website) So, we are setting the high nibble of the D5x0 base address with four switches, so that will give us 16 possible combinations for x. D500, D510, D520, D530, D540, D550.....up to D5F0. In other words, we are moving up in 16 byte increments. This should allow software to be developed that could co-exist with things like the MIO and SpartaDOS X. The project has a long way to go, and a lot of potential, and that is why we took a loss on selling the carts, we knew we wanted to get them in the hands of the community and see what can be done.
  6. I am glad to hear they are making it to their new owners. Don't forget to go here to get the Contiki Apps courtesy of Oliver Schmidt. 4 disks of fun things to check out. Each image comes with a DHCP program to run first to set an IP which writes to the CONTIKI.CFG file. Alternately, You can also enter your IP info and download a CONTIKI.CFG file and replace the one on the disks and then run the programs. http://contiki.cbm8bit.com/
  7. Just wanted to let everyone know that I shipped out all the orders today that were paid (as of July 16th), except those orders that had special requests. Also, I received some payments today and those will go out Tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.
  8. WOW! That was fast! The first batch is sold out. If you are among the people on the list in the first post, I have a cart reserved for you. If you are not interested, just let me know, so I can let it go to someone who does. Thank you all for the quick response and payment, I will start shipping tomorrow. As far as a second run in concerned, I would like to see more of these made, but it is a lot of work. Ordering boards, parts, labels is not hard at all, but the assembly is very tedious, not to mention the cutting and machining of the cases. If there are some people willing to help with the assembly of another batch, then I think that is doable. Also, I am willing to put some kits together for those that don't mind soldering such things.
  9. I Started a seperate thread for ordering. I think it will be best to seperate the ordering from the technical discussions. Plus, it will be easier for me to stay organized and make sure I don'r miss anyone that wants a cart: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/200312-atari-ethernet-cartridge-accepting-orders/
  10. It's finally time! I am taking orders for the Atari Ethernet carts, otherwise known as the Dragon Cart. Please let me know if you are interested. I have 50 or so available and the price is $25 plus shipping. Please keep in mind, we would like to get these out to as many people as possible, so if you are not going to do development, please only order one cart right now. If there are extras, I will certainly make them available. If you are doing development, You are welcome to two carts, and if more are required, let me know and I will see what I can do. I am going to use PayPal for payment and US Postal flat rate boxes for shipping, so shiping will be $5.00 for anyone in the US, International will vary depending on the country but should be somewhere around $20.00 US. Please PM me with your shipping address and I will respond with payment instructions and let you know what the total will be. You can also send me an email through the wesite: www.atari8ethernet.com The following list are the people that have expressed interest already and I have carts reserved but I would appreciate a PM with name and address so I know that I know you are still interested, and I can send you payment instructions. Thanks everyone for your patients and input as we got these built! am really excited to see what the Atari community can do with this Cart! 11. Yea, If it's ok with everyone, What I would like to do is to limit purchase to one for non- developers and two (if they think they need multiples) for folks who plan on doing development.
  12. What's wrong with the "send me a PM and money if you want one" way? I agree, it would be more fair to have a fixed price and sent directly... Otherwise, there will be a bidding war and drive up the cost, leaving some people without one... Jay Good point, I don't want to do anything unfair. I was just looking for a way to help with the order processing. It's nice how you can ship through eBay and they get the mailing label ready to print and kept the buyer notified. I was thinking of doing a "buy it now" on ebay but I am going to look at e-crater instead, if that doesn't look like it will help then I think I will just do what others have done and take orders here on the forum. Thanks for everyone's input, I do appreciate it.
  13. I will definitely chaeck that out. Ebay is convenient but I don't like the fees either!
  14. Thanks, like I said, we want to do what is fair, and without a "killer app" yet, We think this is best. This project has always been about getting ethernet capability to the Atari 8-bits, and never about money. I only ask that we try to get these out to as many people as possible, so I please only order one or two at the most. If at some point someone wants to do software deveopment and needs multiple carts, just send me an e-mail or PM and we will do our best to accomodate. I will post here and on the website when the carts can be purchased. Right now, I need to get the carts back from being tested, plus I am finishing up teaching a class which ends July 3, Once that is done, I will start taking orders.
  15. I was interested but I'll likely let it go if I need to go through the eBay hassle. If I want a new product I want to send money and receive the product within a reasonable time, not going to eBay, watch items, bid on one, loose it, bid on another, loose it again and then make other bids to end up with multiple, possibly over prized, items. This may be nice for people who have plenty of free time with nothing else to do but that ain't me. Yea, I get that. I won't do that. But I think Buy it now might work ok, We are providing free carts to those who we are hoping will do some serios development. It's the rest of this batch (50-60 left) that we are going to sell. I appreciate everyone's input so far. Thank you! So, At this point I am thinking of putting them on ebay using "buy it now' only, no auction, or maybe a link on my website to purchase the carts through PayPal. Either way, I am going to use PayPal for the money transaction. As far as price is concerned, The price will be $25.00 plus priority mail shipping.
  16. We aren't using any 80 column libraries currently, but it should be possible to use the ones that are available. That's a good point about the possibility of different prices. I am not too worried about the fees, as it will make order processing easier. regardless, I think I a leaning toward finding a fair price and sticking to that.
  17. We are making progress. I have made 80+ Carts. We are getting the first ones into the hands of the folks that are going to do some development. The others will be sold at a very reasonable rate to promote futher testing and program development. Dan has donated quite a large sum of money to the project and I have well over 1000 hours of time into it and we are fine with that becasue we really just want to get the carts out to the community and we feel since there is not a lot of software available yet, it's not fair to charge a lot for the Cart. We are currently discussing the best and most fair way to sell the Carts. I am thinking about using e-bay with a low starting bid and letting the community determine what they are worth. Any input is welcome.
  18. I am pretty sure, about 99%, it's an 8k x8 Eprom from SEEQ. I have attached the datasheet. 5133.pdf
  19. Thanks for everything Jack. The world of home computing was a better place because of you.
  20. That's good news! And it's no problem at all. It was definitely just a communication issue. I know sometimes it's tough to communicate technical issues back and forth on a forum. Anyway, I am glad you found the problem. It shouldn't be too hard to re-solder the SIO port. One more tip, in case it helps: If the "ears" of the SIO port aren't secure, you might want to put some small machine screws and nuts on them to help with the stress of plugging and unplugging cables into the 1010. They are probably riveted and over time they just don't keep the connector still anymore. I usually cut them out or carefully drill the rivets out and replace with screws. I use #4-40 size.
  21. Sorry for the confusion, I thought you were testing the playing of a tape in BASIC and you were just using a data/ audio combination cassette. My mistake. All I suggested was to put in a good AUDIO ONLY tape and play it through the speaker using BASIC. It should sound like any tape deck, if it doesn't, there is a problem, most likely mechanical, with your 1010. (see Posts #27 and #28) BTW, I have been successfully building / repairing Atari hardware for well over 20 years. I probably know a thing or two.
  22. you can type POKE 56,0, to turn off the data noise and it should just play the audio track.
  23. I think that is designed to play music whilen the data portion loads, So that sounds right to me. I would still try just an audio cassette.
