  1. Today we have a late Halloween edition. As I was recording play throughs of Woolies Strike Back I came across a glitch. I hit the button for the screenshots or recordings after selecting a level. The level would load and come up in the wait screen. On certain levels (shown below) instead of a Woolie you get a winged/horned creature with arms. Once you start the level the character turns into a Woolie and everything is normal from there. So more than likely this is a throw back to the Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams game that Black Forest Games made before using the same game engine for Bubsy: Woolies Strike Back. Checking a lot of screen shots of the Giana Sisters game I don't see those characters, but so far this seems the most likely scenario. If those characters were not in that game, maybe this from an earlier game, or even an earlier concept character for the Bubsy game itself. Would be awesome if we got the skinny from Black Forest themselves. ---------------------------------------- So SpongeFox is always creating new Bubsy art on a fairly regular basis and I believe the newest Bubsy game inspired her because I had a few submitted for posting here. Here is what she had to say on this one: "I remember doing a really old drawing featuring Bubsy and Conker. It had Bubsy feeling sick to his stomach at the sight of "Bubsy 3D" and Conker actually javing a teal bad fur day. Since I couldn't find it, I did a drawing of Bubsy again feeling ill cause of "that game", only this time, he has the twins with him." http://atariage.com/forums/blog/234/entry-15243-cruizin-bubsy-twisted-dreams-november-2019/
  2. Was searching for a Bubsy figure... why... oh yeh, waiting for the Bubsy pop figure... but in the meantime I found someone making a 3D print of a Bubsy figure. Cool. I ordered one, can give a review on that when it comes in. https://www.shapeways.com/product/CGMXYLAUU/bubsy-3d-could-ve-been-a-lot-better?optionId=60402261&li=ostatus
  3. Tomorrow is Michael Berlyn's * birthday, so wish him happy birthday Bubsy fans!! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004994478706&eid=ARBlt_UzWTwPsvvq2J6MpcLoOpv6VJGS-FxEEsbGuMBejRZAWickKTUhoWwIKUvsm7vHIbpFZhsiWYm1 * (creator of Bubsy Bobcat)
  4. This picture alone raises so many questions in the Bubsy story and wanted to other fan theories. The picture looks old, obviously a newspaper clipping. Was this an uncle of Bubsy or father? My guess is the father. In the Purrfect Edition Bubsy has the Indiana Jones look on the postcard. The Sean Connery looking bobcat in the picture would be his father if we go with the Indiana Jones theme. Any theories on this?
  5. Wow 2017 was one hell of a ride for Bubsy fans. A new release of a Bubsy game for the first time in the whole existence of the Bubsy Fan Blog (since 2008). And the twitter feed with none other than Bubsy chiming in, chats with "Bubsy", so much material there. Also the Bubsy fan group "Bubsy Nation" became a term! In the last year we saw a new speedrun milestone for Fractured Furry Tales of 36m 25s by KowalLazy. Congratulations KowalLazy!! In the last year the Bubsy Wiki was also launched with a number (that we will hopefully laugh at later looking back at this ) of 85 articles. Looking good! I'm glad to say the Bubsy Fan Blog has been asked to be a part of the wiki development. So as the twitter feed starts to quiet down, there was one last tweet from the Bubster: Hopefully we'll hear more from Bubsy in the future. Of Woolie's Strike Back I think above all people agreed this was a step in the right direction, the character has been re-introduced to people in a positive way, so time to keep this momentum going. Other news: Bubsy Nation T-Shirts available again on Amazon. Bubsy: Kitt'N Kaboodle has been released for the Vic 20. Bubsy-V20-R2.crt.zip Sometime ago when I started playing with the Atari Flashback Portable I joked about hacking Fast Eddie into a Bubsy game so I could have a Bubsy game to play on the go for the Atari 2600. That version turned out great, and it's been fun hacking the Atari computer roms (800/5200) and now the Vic 20. Just as Bubsy is fairly infamous for video game mascots, it has been fun getting the Bubster on older platforms. A respectful tribute of the character, and all the time giving a nod to the current Bubsy game to give some free press. Some have asked if I will sell cartridges of all these hacks. What I think would be hilarious is if Accolade was able to publish a limited release of these hacks through Atariage and have them officially added to the Bubsy mythology. Just sayin'. BUBSY... OFFICAILLY RELEASE FOR THE ATARI 2600 and Vic 20 just 37 years after their hayday. (Wow.. Fast Eddie (original game hacked is 36 years old as of 2018?) Of course while I am perfectly fine (for the sake of Bubsy fandom and the irony of it all) to publish my fan hacks (just send me a copy and we'll call it squares) there is Sirius Software who originally wrote Fast Eddie. So there is that to be worked out. At some point I really would like to hack the Fast Eddie for the Commodore 64. That is an amazing version of which Hack-O-Matic (that I used to hack the other four versions) sees nothing but gibberish. So hopefully time and input from the gaming community will reveal a solution for that in time. In the meantime, the Bubsy Fan Blog has given a quick view of the Woolies Strike Back, and the other parts should be made soon.. Talk more soon!
  6. http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/5414/A_FistFull_of_Bubsy_Collection/ Well if I didn't already have these two games on Steam would be a pretty good deal. Basically Two-Fur for free and a few dollars off Woolies Strike Back.
  7. First off, 10 am PST October 30th will start the 24 hours of Bubsy answering questions. This should get interesting! Secondly, Do You Know Gaming has released a very informative video on Bubsy. They approached us at the Bubsy Fan Blog on it not too long ago to use materials from the Bubsy Fan Blog, and in the end added even more information. Well done guys! And finally, today I got my PS4 to play one of my copies of Bubsy! So as soon as I get my regular or purrfect edition I will have reviews and pictures. See everyone at the 24 hour question session with Bubsy this Monday!! -------------- I will leave you with this epic Bubsy / Wolfenstein picture from the twitter feed as both are being released around the same date.
  8. We have wild throngs of people (well ok, so far one) that would like to learn how to play the Bubsy game on the Atari Jaguar. The nice things about the Jaguar version, it is unique from all other versions. It is mysterious, not many have played it compared to the other versions since many don't have an Atari Jaguar. But tonight in a live stream you can see Bubsy being played and shown step by step how to beat this game. Currently I can beat all 15 levels in 50 minutes on average, and so can you! The live stream YouTube event will happen tonight 8:15 pm or 9:15 EST. The link to the live stream will be posted here or you can PM me for the details.
  9. A lot of people think Bubsy started on Atari (really the SNES and then Genesis) so .... sure... why not! Here we have it folks... BUBSY : Kitt'N Kaboodle This fun hack of Fast Eddie was made possible by Hack-O-Matic 3 and some coloring by KevinMos3 who has already made many good color hacks for Atari 2600 games. The Woolies are at it again stealing Bubsy's stuff and this time they stole EVERYTHING and stored it on the planet Kaboodle!!! Bubsy will need to JUMP OVER the Woolies to get it all back. In the game you'll see objects Bubsy needs to collect on based on items he collected in... Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. Bubsy 2 Bubsy Fractured Furry Tales Bubsy 3D Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Respective And even the newest which came out recently that I'm enjoying... Bubsy: Woolies Strike Back. This was originally started on the Atari VCS/2600 and since the code for Fast Eddie for the 2600 and 400/800 were very similar I converted the sprites over. First stage with all the graphical work done on the 2600 is was easy to convert over the sprites for the characters (Bubsy, Woolies), the prize sprites, and number fonts. The background code for the ladders is different so for now the ladders are the same. Bubsy0 R1.bin

(glowing yarn ball) This was originally started on the Atari VCS/2600 and since the code for Fast Eddie for the 2600 and 400/800 were very similar, the Atari 400/800/XL/XE version soon followed. Finding it fun to put Bubsy on one more Atari system, the 5200 version was also created. Not crazy about how this XL Conversion to the 5200 has Bubsy always running but meh... it's done. If someone can figure out how to get the main character to stop running that would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy! Bubsy0 5200 R1.bin
  11. Good morning! So the news of the 6th Bubsy game "Paws on Fire" has stirred up some excitement on Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and it is always fun to see the activity on Twitter. These are locations that Bubsy news sent out, Bubsy fans are talking, and "Bubsy" himself tends to show up from time to time. There are other places like Discord that I keep getting notifications from but I have no idea how to use. . There is the Bubsy Bobcat group on DeviantArt. There are also Bubsy conversations on the Steam Forums, And there are the conversations on the Playstation Network groups. We'll feature those to the bottom of this message thread. But first, here is the latest top ten on the Bubsy Woolies Strike Back Leaderboard: And, as a added bonus today, we have the latest Bubsy art from Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog staffer, SpongeFox! Title of this picture is "Bubsy Supreme" So when on the Playstation Networks check out "Bubsy Bobcat" and "Bubsy Forever" ALSO, want to be a staffer of the Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog? Bubsy fandom has grown since the release of Woolies Strikes Back last year and there is a lot to keep up with. Want to be a Bubsy reporter? Submit Bubsy Fan art? Even write articles and reviews about Bubsy? Or just want to give a heads up about a place to find more Bubsy? Just reply to this blog post or send me a PM. http://atariage.com/forums/blog/234/entry-15225-cruizin-psn-november-2018-fan-comments/ Here is some dialog from both.
  12. Thanks to Sponge Fox we have this great happy birthday greeting for Rob Paulsen... only 15 days late! (Ooops! Sorry Rob) It is funny how I believe it was around his birthday I popped in my copy of Animaniacs one night. Love that show but I hadn't watched that in ages. Oh wow that show is timeless. And naturally I watch the show listening to Yakko and thinking with a slight alteration in voice we have the Bubster. I was looking at Rob's picture and he kinda resembles Yakko: Fun stuff. Well again, happy 60th Rob! The only other order of business this month... BUBSY NEEDS YOU TO HELP WITH A PODCAST!! It's true. The Jaguar Game by Game Podcast by Shinto will be covering the Jaguar version of Bubsy roughly a month for now, and I am gathering information. So you the Bubsy fans can give your feedback or questions that you would like covered. What I am looking for are: 1) Things you would like to know about Bubsy in general 2) Questions you would have for the developers of the Jaguar Bubsy game 3) How would you rate the Jaguar version of Bubsy? (1) Hall of Fame Game (top 5 on the Jaguar) (2) Solid Game (3) "Meh" Game (4) Trash Game (bottom 5 on the Jaguar) You can leave those questions in the comments, or just PM me the feedback or questions. Naturally for me the Jaguar version of Bubsy I would not neccessarily say "Hall of Fame" but it is my top 5 go to games on the Jaguar (at the moment Bubsy, Cybermorph, Raiden, Doom, and Joust). With all it's problems, meh, I still will vote a Hall of Fame in my book. But we all have our guilty pleasures and Bubsy is certainly mine as a hobby. I look forward to your feedback. Soon we will have an informative hour plus long podcast episode about Bubsy that we all can enjoy!
  13. Morning Bubsy fans, Cruiz'in twitter this morning I was happy to see that "Bubsy" (the person playing him at Accloade) was still making comments from time to time. This one cracked me up for starters... There is still Bubsy eyeballing the swag that Sonic gets, which sadly I feel his pain as I would like to see more Bubsy merchandise too. So he's still out there. Over all the reviews of Woolies Strike Back there were many that thought the twitter activity was brilliant so keep it up, just keep it up Accolade! Also on Twitter I had this fan picture sent to me: Like the Bubsy picture. And I guess that is me next to Bubsy? Looked like Animal from the Muppets at first. Then I remembered my current avatar for Twitter is my Bubsy character from the Atari 2600 hack I did last December "The Bubsy Holiday Special". The red cap on Bubsy was a fun difference. So.. ok on the picture. Hope everyone is doing well out there!
  14. Hey Bubsy fans, to continue to be the Bubsy 101 (as the Bubsy on Twitter called this place), I'm happy to another another Bubsy fan posting some cool Bubsy material. Blog is run by Lefty1430 and not bad. Can be found here.... http://atariage.com/forums/index.php?app=blog&module=post&section=post&do=showform&blogid=234 This probably describes it best: In tribute to your new blog I present "The Return of the Bobcat" fan soundtrack by Aizakku Horooee. I adore the track 13 minutes in. Carry on fellow Bubsy fan. We actually do exist.
  15. Finally the review you've all been waiting for: the review of Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back by Bubsy fans for Bubsy fans! How does this new game compare to previous Bubsy games, how does it rank (by the reviewer's humble opinion), and what are the challenges faced in collecting all the items/yarnballs? Talks about the levels between the tutorial and the first boss level. Watch it here...
  16. Contest: First person to PM me a message with the correct name of the arcade machine photo altered in the picture below wins the Humble Bumble deal on Steam (Bubsy: Woolies Strike Back and Bubsy Two Fur) or $20. Originally I listed the above picture on Twitter by saying (and some more clues for this contest...) "Hey #BubsyNation was at Free Play in Arlington, Texas and was amazed to find the @BubsyThe_Bobcat Russian arcade game. It was the coolest game I never played." I of course revealed a hour or so later that there was a Russian home version of Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (And Bubsy 2) but not a arcade game. Just had some fun photo editing which turned into a contest. (Contest provided in fun solely by the Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog) --------------- Here is more information of the Humble Bumble deal going on for the next eight days.... https://www.humblebundle.com/store/bubsy-the-woolies-strike-back
  17. For Bubsy fans we live in exciting times: The Days before the launch of Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. There have been times since the launch of this Bubsy Bobcat fan blog in 2008 that I would search the internet and maybe find one new picture of Bubsy, but I am happy to say that is not the case now. Going forward till the launch of Bubsy and after I will be featuring the excitement of those going into this game, initial thoughts, and reviews. And I will post some of the fun things as I find them. Others are welcome to PM me with submissions as well. So here are some fun pictures I found yesterday: Some context for this one: "James Nicholas Stanton, better known by his pen name Jim Sterling, is a British freelance video game journalist, critic, and pundit." Funny picture. Here are a few others I've been meaning to post for a little bit... Some really cool art. I wonder if this was the add for Bubsy 2 originally? "Bubsy Hashtag on Twitter" was all I got for this one. Every so often a new piece of swag shows up from the Bubsy 1 and 2 days since there was not any real swag from Bubsy (3) Fractured Furry Tales or Bubsy 3D. Hopefully we'll see more swag for Bubsy (5) The Woolies Strike Back. Alright, and this last part is for fun. I have recently gotten into the cartoon series "Rick and Morty" on adult swim. In that series there is a character, a old friend of Rick's named Squanchy that is a obnoxious talking and walking cat. Obnoxious but cool. So far no talking to the 4th wall like Bubsy, but otherwise you look at this character and say things like... Fun stuff. So as I come across some Squanchy stuff, I will share it here. So far I have found the following: This was a T-Shirt that you could find here, but the link seems to be down? https://pixelpoptees.com/products/get-your-squanch-on Two interesting "facts" from this fan wiki 1) Squanchy might be dead. But then we didn't see him die, and you know what they say in comics... "no body, no death. Oh there was a body? It was a clone..." 2) Squanchy might have been based on Snarf from Thundercats. Can see that, but the party animal with attitude is definitely Bubsy inspired. But then animorphic cats are quite common. We've featured at least two other characters (Magic Cat, and the Fox animal network mascot in Japan) that greatly resemble Bubsy. All we can say is, always fun to see a character that is similar and what others do with it. In Rick and Morty Squanchy is a old friend of Rick's. Obnoxious but a liked character. And in the end, quite heroic. I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of Squanchy. Hahah... this reviewer says about the same thing... And I'll leave with this epic picture...

  20. There are some promo books on eBay that I have not seen before. Basically two sets are available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-Gods-Speed-Racer-Brett-Hull-Hockey/283224638872?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170221125817%26meid%3D568ecf64e1ef4a1db77478c79544809d%26pid%3D100754%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D283224638872&_trksid=p2045573.c100754.m4842 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Accolade-Vintage-Promo-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-II-Ballz-etc/273522021427?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170221125811%26meid%3De81035e4581e40aabecf29ca58bf011a%26pid%3D100753%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D273522021427&_trksid=p2045573.c100753.m4841 And the second exact set... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-Gods-Speed-Racer-Brett-Hull-Hockey/283224638872?hash=item41f1810598:g:OCIAAOSwDX9bzzC9 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Accolade-Vintage-Promo-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-II-Ballz-etc/273522021427?hash=item3faf2ed433:g:IM0AAOSw15Zbzyk4 Some cool pictures if nothing else.
  21. Hey all, we'll go ahead and post this a little early... presenting... the interview with Michael Berlyn the creator of Bubsy Bobcat!!! SpongeFox and I had a blast talking to Michael as he talked about a few of his projects from OO Topos his earliest game, projects at Infocom (Infidel, Cutthroats, Fooblitzky, and Suspended) as well as his musical experience "Hot Mustard", and his latest addictive iOS game, Ogg. And naturally lots and lots of behind the scenes on the creation of Bubsy Bobcat, the mascot that Accolade banked on to save their company and succeeded! Mike (as he asked to be called, not Mr. Berlyn) really enjoyed the illustrations of SpongeFox as you can see in the interview, so this would be a great time to share some illiustrations that have piled up while I was editing interviews in the last month. Here is what SpongeFox doodled during the interview: Ironically Mike mentioned that Bubsy was based in character on a dog they had at the time. These were actually drawn by SpongeFox a week before the interview. Only other news is that I am working with Shinto as he wraps up his Bubsy episode for the Atari Jaguar Game by Game podcast. I'm thankful to Shinto for having that episode as a motivation to reach out and interview Faran Thomason and Michael Berlyn in research for the podcast. Been a Tea-riffic experience!
  22. Been a fantastic day as you can imagine on Twitter. Soooo many people are chiming in on the official holiday started in 2011 (as I'll explain more in a moment) in a day when all Star Wars fans have some tongue and cheek fun with the phrase "May the Force Be With You" which is kinda of a "Drive Safe", or "God Bless" kind of phrase in the Star Wars Universe. So at some point someone started "May the Fourth Be With You", which was as first believed to be the original release date of Star Wars, which was honestly May 25, 1977. However that is more than fine as Disney is releasing a Star Wars story, Rogue One being last year's story released ... December 2016? Huh. Anyway, Solo, the Star Wars story of this year, will be released May 25th. I think this was to avoid conflicting with with Infinity War, but I like how this matches the original release date when it all started in 1977. Ironically I was off work this week and had forgotten about today being the fourth of May. I just happened to see after a recent cleaning of my room Bubsy sitting next to the Boba Fett helmet. And so unsupervised this happened... Later I found out it was "May the Fourth" so I added the title with the Facebook profile editor, and the rest is history. So we have others who have chimed in on this bizarre "holiday".. er... event? Our last Bubsy link before we go off the rails was Black Forest Games who programmed the Bubsy game last year: And now, in the true spirit of "What could possibly go wrong" the rest... Soooo many sports teams jumped on this... And other interesting advertising... Mark Hamill is a star who is a bit of a Star Wars nerd himself. With that let's take this back to where it all started... the fans.. And a fan that's out of this world... The Fourth Will be With You... till midnight tonight. -Doctor Clu
  23. If you wanted to see Bubsy on a Atari system other than the Jaguar, now's your chance to play it online! http://www.virtualatari.org/soft.php?soft=Bubsy Enjoy! -Doctor Clu
