Hi, for some time I've been developing opl player with support of OPL2/3 hardware on Atari ST and up. Here is current summary with some recordings from several devices (OPL2LPT / OPL3LPT / OPL3 Express): https://nokturnal.pl/2023/12/opl3-play-preview-for-atari-st-and-up . Currently it handles DRO/VGM/IMF files, but I plan to add more ... probably. I've recorded some videos from real hardware (Falcon 030 + opl3lpt):

The latest in our Video History Series The Evolution of Atari ST Vertical Flying Shooters Part 3 1989 A rising tide? In 1989 two significant things happened in the history of Atari ST vertical shooters: First, Xenon 2 was released, which is considered by many to be the best shooter of all time on the ST, and also Shoot ‘em Up Construction Kit or SEUCK was hit the market. The other games we have to look at are relatively unique, at least as far a unique can go in this genre, but overall it was not a great year for ST vertical shooters in terms of quantity, but what was released was a step up visually and technically from the average in 1988. Part 1 - Early Years: https://youtu.be/J4XJ9YS3PbI Xenon 2 Pod Cast https://intotheverticalblank.com/2022/07/04/s5e3-xenon-2-and-the-atari-st-halcyon-days-of-1989-part-1/

I give it a try with Phantasie II. It plays more like the first Phantasie. Even spells use the same numbers too. On Apple // the gameplay is unchanged. The main strategy is the same: never going far away too soon until your party levels up. Atari St offers better pictures with a cool animating guard in towns. Most of times, you use your mouse for some actions. The problem with the ST, the cursor moves too fast. I don't know if it's a problem with the emulator Saint St or the game. Most of times, especially in fight, flee button is more used than attack. I miss lots of exps and gold because of this. I prefer playing Phantasie II on Apple II because this version uses keyboard instead of mouse.

This weekend, I've been publishing the previously lost 1980s software of Yaakov Kirschen, which I rescued from various disks with the help of Kevin Ng and Keith Hacke. After years of research, today I'm happy to share a condensed version of the fascinating story behind Murray and Me and Mom and Me — two of the earliest entertainment offerings for the Atari ST. Despite being profiled by the New York Times, London Times, and other big newspapers in 1985, the programs didn't sell well, and went mostly unarchived (until today). But "Murray" was never meant to be sold. In fact, he began life as the "artificial personality" interface to an Atari ST-based greeting card kiosk project that Kirschen proposed to Jack Tramiel in 1984. atari 800xl Atari 800XL Set of Wall Mounts (3D Printable Design).
rcamp48 posted a topic in Atari General
Hello everyone , I have decided to veer away from software for a bit and have instead fired up my 3D printer and Tinkercad to produce a good set of wall mounts that are Atari Universal, as I print the first design, I will be seeing what changes the STLs need and adjusting accordingly for the different Atari computers that are out there. I have listed my design on Tinkercad, it is a remix of another design, and as such credit has been given to the original designer of the Laptop Wall Mount Set. Here is the URL for my design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5335874 -

Seeing that some folks have added semi-modern MIDI capable sound chips in their STs so various games can play MIDI soundtracks internally [and without having to resort to outputting it through the MIDI ports to external hardware], is anyone on here scheming on how to add a PokeyMAX FPGA wonderchip into their STs? In addition to being able to do Quad POKEY, Dual SID, and Covox audio all at once, the PokeyMAX can also do Dual "PSG" [Dual YM2149] audio. That's 6 channels of "ST" audio. To my knowledge, no one has ever done a Dual YM2149 upgrade for the ST, although other platforms have similar upgrades available [although generally for the GI AY chip that the YM2149 clones in the audio department]. Seems like a worthy upgrade for the ST...

For Sale Mouse Master by Practical Solutions for the Atari St or the Amiga. Tested and working great in an Atari ST. Once you use one of these you will never want to be without it. You will never need to lift up the ST to plug in the very awkward mouse and joystick ports up under the keyboard. Asking $50 + you pay shipping of $9 in the U.S.
-
Wanted to see if anybody could use them before I donate them to an electronics retailer. Just pay for shipping and you can have them - I'm only shipping within the US because of C19. I believe these can be used as replacement memory for latter A500 Motherboards as well as some variants of Atari ST - there is 24 of them. I believe these are similar to the above These are also memory chips for A500's but for earlier models - I don't remember which ones exactly Rev.6a and before possibly? Spare socket for Atari ST Blitters(Possibly the GLUE and MMU too). Known as the 'Funky' Socket according to Exxos(Chris) Two chip UK Rainbow TOS 1.04 Six chip US Rainbow TOS 1.04 The holy grail! The rare 2 MB Fat Agnus for A500(and I think A2000 as well) 2 - 1MB SIMM's for Atari STE's Various chip converters.

The Good: 1MB Memory Blitter Chip Gotek Drive with an 8GB usb stick, has some things on it – PM for more info Switchable ROMS - TOS 1.04(Rainbow) and TOS 1.02 Original mouse with laser upgrade installed Original disk drive included(not attached to the Atari) Power cord A scart cable for video Not as Good: Missing the key for the Numpad 0 Has the badge of a 1040STE but this is actually a 1040STF The case has been painted The Keyboard was retrobrited badly, and now has hair like scratches on every key – A good case against retrobriting This has been a great computer for me, but I’m scaling back. I’ve tested the keyboard and everything seems to work ok. I can’t confirm if all of the function keys are all working, I can confirm F1, F7, and F8 are working – those are the only ones I use. I’m also including the guts of the ball mouse in case someone wants to put them back and replace the laser. I'll consider any reasonable offers.

I’ve had this absolute unit for about ten years now, believe it or not but I got everything pictured and more for 40$ from a dude with no arms and legs having a garage sale out of his mobile home in Clearwater, Florida. Damned good times!

For sale or trade - one or both. Price negotiable, I'm thinking $15 + $3 shipping 1) Atari ST BASIC Sourcebook and Tutorial 2) 520ST Computer Owner's Manual Two vintage ATARI ST manuals in used but excellent condition, only minor signs of wear. No signs of moisture damage, no odors. These will complement your ATARI ST collection. I will ship with USPS media mail.

An opentype font that rasterize like the Atari ST 8×16 system font
Sporny Kun posted a blog entry in SpornyKun
For this first post, I will present a project –more precisely a rework of the project– that I recently released. Sporniket Nostalgie v2 is an opentype font that renders like the 8×16 system font (a.k.a the 'hires' font) of the Atari ST. The first version was kind of OK but it had 2 major flaws and a minor one : first, it required a weird size (25 pt at 72 dpi) to render correctly, as I wanted to have room for accented uppercase without deformation of the glyph ; second, I was not entirely faithfull in the shape of the glyph anyways as I wanted to remove what I considered as 'flaws', like serifs on a generally sans serif font, I made an '&' that looked like 'Et', and so on ; and last, the shape of my glyphes were stuck to the original pixels and used handcrafted curves, making a not so nice feeling on printed paper. That said, I enjoyed using this font for a few years before changing my computers, and the rendering on paper was as intended, with rounded shapes and all. Another fact that made the rework necessary was that nowadays, exporting the font gives an bugged files, lots of letters seems to have lost their width. In practice, you see several letters at the same location. So, I decided to do it again, with the following objectives : faithfull to the original material at 8×16 pixels beautiful on paper : I used the "spiro" tool of Font Forge to have very smooth transition between straight sections and rounded section of a curve (third or forth order continuity), and tricking the rasterization algorithm (no hinting) to get the rights pixels while having constant width strokes on paper. A first release with the following unicode range supported : US-ASCII a.k.a Basic latin (any printable character from code 32 —space— to 127) ; Latin-1 supplement ; 'oe' ligatures and Ÿ to support french. The latest releases are here. You will find the font in 3 formats (opentype, truetype and woff), as well as a sample html demo to see the font on screen, and on paper if you print it. Since the release I set up my computer system (ubuntu linux) to use the font. I have yet to write a theme to use the font in the title bar. Following, some screenshots from my terminal. First, without anti-aliasing. Then, with anti-aliasing –I prefer this rendering–. I plan to make the same work for the 8×8 font soon, and try to do the 6×6 font later. -
Hi all, I recently wrote a piece on Jack Tramiel and the battle over Amiga between Atari and Commodore. There's a huge amount of Commodore material from that era. Books, sites, talks, interviews, the lot. I really struggled to find much on the Atari side of the story. There's documentation about the ST's architecture and a really good video from the 1985 CES where the 130ST was introduced. I'm more interested in the story behind the people, the fights, the arguments, blood, sweat and tears that led to the Atari ST's release in 1985. Does anyone have any recommended books or sources they'd recommend?

Hi guys, I hope someone could help me I recently brought a Atari ste and got given a E Magic LOG 3 with it. It's like a midi expander box if anyone has any info on what it's used for or if it is purely a midi expander. What sort of price do they go and is it a sort after item. I'm totally new to the st scene so if anyone has any info or knowledge please let us know. *It's not my photo used but looks exactly like that

atari st Connecting Atari ST to modern TVs?
Dr_Florbo posted a topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Hi! i've been interested in getting an Atari ST lately, and have seen ones on ebay that have Television ports in the back, but just have atari 520St Badges and not Atari STm badges. would these still work with cables like https://www.ebay.com/itm/ATARI-ST-QUALITY-GOLD-RCA-PHONO-TV-AUDIO-VIDEO-CABLE-OFC-2M/390232521592?epid=2263100432&hash=item5adbabbb78:g:FOAAAOSw2s1UuoH4 ? on that note, would normal atari st's without a television port work with that cable? (such as Atari STF's, or just ST's without television ports) I live in the U.S. Also: If they have the television port but not the STm badge, does this mean the operating system is off of a floppy disk? Thank you! -
Hi, some of the Atari ST fans are also 8-Bit fans (and vice versa) and may already know, that I make some little projects to enhance the capatibilities of the Atari 8-Bit family. Some time ago I´ve decided to do the next step and make some stuff for the Atari ST series, too. Find some infos here. PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: All informations (availibity, pricing, links to manuals etc.pp.) is found in my info file - see also link in my signature. This file is updated 2-3 times a month constantly, so bookmark it ? PLEASE don´t ask for prices and availibity here in this thread. See 1.) You don´t need to show interest (what is very nice, indeed). All projects are finished and will be offered independent from request here. See 1.) The first batches of all five shown expansions are ready at mid to end of July 2020. See 1.) Thanks for reading ? Now here´s brief overview... DUAL-TOS Card for Atari ST computers (TOS 1.0x / 2.0x) This expansion can be installed in all Atari ST (except 1040 ST with CPU under the disk drive) and the Mega ST. It enables the usage of any TOS 1.0x version and TOS 2.05 or 2.06. No need to dril holes for switches, just use the existing RESET pushbutton. Eraseable EPROM included, if wanted, preprogrammed with the TOS versions and language of your choice. --- DUAL-TOS Card with Mega ST compatible RTC for Atari ST computers (TOS 1.0x / 2.0x) This expansion can be installed in all Atari ST - except 1040 ST with CPU under the disk drive. For this special version of the 1040 ST a seperate version will offered in the next 3-4 months. The DUAL-TOS Card enables the usage of any TOS 1.0x version and TOS 2.05 or 2.06. No need to dril holes for switches, just use the existing RESET pushbutton. Eraseable EPROM included, if wanted, preprogrammed with the TOS versions and language of your choice. This version has also the Ricoh RTC chip onboard, which is fully compatible to the Mega ST RTC. You don´t need special software, all TOS versions from 1.02 up to 2.06 supports this RTC. Just use the Control Panel to set the clock. --- DUAL-TOS Card with Mega ST compatible RTC for the Atari 1040 STE computer (TOS 1.06 / 1.62 / 2.0x) This expansion is specially made for the Atari 1040 STE only. It´s the first (known to me) expansion which enables a Mega ST compatible RTC for the 1040 STE. Also it enables the usage of two TOS versions which are able to run on an Atari 1040 STE (TOS 1.06, 1.62 and the 2.0x). No need to dril holes for switches, just use the existing RESET pushbutton. One-Time-Programmable PROM included, if wanted, preprogrammed with the TOS versions and language of your choice. You don´t need special software, all TOS versions running on the 1040 STE supports this RTC. Just use the Control Panel to set the clock. --- HD Module for 1.44 HD disk drive for all Atari STs and the 1040 STE This is one of the smallest PCBs with fully automated HD features for the ST series. It supports two drives with different setups (HD/HD, DD/HD, HD/DD, DD/DD), generates automatically the 3 ms step rate pulse and corrects the media change detection problem with standard PC disk drives. It has it´s own clock onboard, so no disturbation to the weak 16 MHz signal from the Shifter occours. You need a HD compatible disk drive which mostly must modified to work with an Atari ST (drive must be set to DS0 and HD-output on pin 2). --- 4 MByte Memory Expansion for all Atari ST and the Mega ST This PCB enables to expand your ST´s memory to 4 MByte. It can be installed in all Atari 260/520/1040 ST/STF/STM/STFM and the Mega ST series. It uses two banks with 2 MByte each, if wanted, only the first bank could be used and the 2nd bank deactivated. --- Reminder: All informations (availibity, pricing, links to manuals etc.pp.) is found in my info file - see also link in my signature. This file is updated 2-3 times a month constantly, so bookmark it ?
