I know that this may cultivate a divisive discussion around here--the old ColecoVision was meant to be played with its native controllers argument. I've paid attention to that argument, and I've seen the truth in it! Especially with the ball-knob enhancement. But now, finally having a drop-in PCB for the Famicom NTT Data controller, there is at long last a compete solution in using a fantastic D-Pad type controller for the ColecoVision!! This was a quiet little release by atariguy1021, but I hope to keep the torch burning in support of this killer homebrew product. Thanks goes to him for his fantastic work! I'd like to add that I was a fortunate kid, in that I grew up in the 70s and 80s, loving video games throughout the decades. After the U.S. market went bust and 2 years of home computing went by, the NES came on the scene and the rest is history. With that, I'm skilled and fluent in both traditional controllers ("Joysticks") as well as D-Pads. For certain game programming the pad just feels right! ...So here is a short list of some games and gameplay that I've tested with my new ColecoVision Super +Control Pad™ Please feel free to add opinions, write-ups, and reviews of your experiences, likes, and dislikes to this list. Games that Play Better with the Control Pad: A. ) Classic games: Lady Bug - can move around corners much easier, but the game mechanics put in place by the programmers are still prohibitive. Buck Rogers - maneuver your ship with ease. Can blast saucers with less effort and far better gliding skill. Gyruss - this game was designed to use the D pad. Gameplay is now utterly phenomenal, fully playable, and you'll go much farther if you're an experienced "pad professional". Looping - Another game where the D-pad breathes new life into it. Maneuver your airplane with ease. Was able to get to the "End" for the first time! Omega Race - I could go either way on this one, but the pad does help with fluidity in the movement of your ship. Spy Hunter: much more fluidity and the super action controls are much easier to use on the pad. Root Beer Tapper: so much easier, it makes for championship game play. Must play on skill level four! Montezuma's Revenge - A great example of what the pad can do with rigid game mechanics. At the risk of overemphasizing, plays far more like Super Mario Bros. (without the jumping mechanics of course) Star Wars - plays better, but this would do well with a game hack. Ultimately this game needs smoother controls, and up and down directionals could be (re-) reversed. [Also a hack of the music to be louder and multi-tonal would be awesome!] Burgertime: much better gameplay--just like with Lady Bug--eliminates the rigidity of turning corners, etc. B.) Modern games: Wonder Boy: allows the game to be actually playable. I'm pretty sure this game was meant for a pad because it was designed for the Sega SG series of gaming consoles. Much better control over your character and better maneuverability. Twin Bee - Along with Star Force, these vertical scrolling shooters were meant for the pad. Much better maneuverability and control over your ship, and much more fluidity when it comes to fire power. Mario Bros. - another game where you could truly go either way with the controllers, but the pad gives it that classic Nintendo feel. More like playing it on the GameBoy. Star Force - Very similar to TwinBee in its ship's control improvement. Road Fighter - Level mastering freedom! Way easier to maneuver your vehicle and pass levels. Ms. Pac-Man - Again, this one could go either way. Depends on your preference, I think. With your thumb on the pad, you'll have to lift it a bit (rather than rock the pad with your thumb), in order to precisely press each direction. Joust (Team Pixelboy release) - Amazing improvement! Excellent fluidity and control. I could play this one for hours vice using the standard controller. These are just a few games that I've had the chance to experience since I got my Super +Control Pad put together last night. I know there are many more experiences out there, so again, let's hear yours!

I am looking to put together a motherboard replacement and wanted to get some opinions on a few things. In order to keep costs low and reduce board size, the controller ports would be moved to the expansion port area. Ideally the SGM features could be impletemented, but if not an expansion port could be done internally and a SGM could be installed inside the system. This board would only be F18a compatible so only VGA output would be available (although an off the shelf converter would fit inside with the extra room to convert to HDMI). The board would include new power reset switch functionality. The attached picture shows a rough first pass at the PCB, Some stock images from the motherboard have been superimposed to give a general idea of where components would go. Is not Having the expansion port in the front a deal breaker for most or does this seem like it could be a solution for those looking for a replacement. All feedback is welcome. Thanks

Thoughts on "Sprite Flicker?" Love it? Hate it? Don't care? Watch the three games in this video. On the left is what a normal CV system looks like and on the right is an F18a upgraded system that removes most of the sprite flicker. Which do you prefer?

I have three unopened AtGames ColecoVision Flashback consoles with 61 games included, Dollar General "exclusive," with Antarctic Adventure and several overlays. Asking $30 each plus shipping, payment via PayPal. In the past I have just slapped a label on the retail box and shipped with no problems, but I will provide additional packaging if requested.

Hey guys! I've been playing with my CV a lot lately and recently got the game Nova Blast off of eBay. I cleaned and repaired everything on the CV a while ago including the controllers but just now found out that the ASTERISK (*) button on one of them doesn't seem to work. Nova Blast needs this button pressed to start the game. My question is, everything else (as far as I can tell) works on the keypad (even the # key) except the * button. Is there something I can do to locate the cause of the malfunction? In other words, I am not sure how 12 buttons on the keypad are translated into 1 or 2 wires that feed into the CV but it seems to me if all the buttons except this one work the problem may be with the ribbon cable? If so, is this something that can be repaired easily? Thanks, Larry

I wanted to have some plastic display cases made for the following ‘New in Box’ items. If anyone has the time, can you provide/confirm the measurements of the following items if you own them. Also, can anyone recommend a place to have these display cases custom made? I’m basically looking to put these inside a display case as close to the same size of the box as possible. Something that would preserve the packaging as well as display nicely over time. Your suggestions and measurements will be very much appreciated, and 'Thank You' in advance. - Colecovision Console - Expansion Module – 1 (Atari 2600 Adapter) - Expansion Module – 2 (Steering Wheel) - Roller Controller - Super Action Controllers - Super Game Module (Opcode)

The goal here is to start planning a 3rd run of the SGM. But let me make a few things clear first: - 3rd run pre-order or whatever does NOT start until 2nd run is behind me - Yes, I am taking care of the French SCART version. It will ship BEFORE or SIMULTANEOUSLY with the 3rd run, but not after There is a high demand for the SGM, and I have done a beyond poor job distributing it so far. What we want to do this time is to get a 3rd run out of door before July 2016. One option is to offer it with no box, at a reduced price, something around $50, or both boxed (at a regular price) and unboxed versions. In order to get a 3rd run we are going to need 200 pre-orders, with at least 100 pre-orders for the boxed version in order to get that option done. Again, the idea here is not to start a 3rd run right now, so I am not accepting requests yet. We will announce when the 3rd run starts, and as I said, I need to put the 2nd run behind me first. I just want to start a discussion to understand what people want.

Here's the thread for the development of Snatcher for the ColecoVision Call me crazy, but I've to decided to make Snatcher (from the MSX2 version) for the CV Snatcher is my favorite game from Hideo Kojima Now, it's NOT a simple port, it's going to be made entirely from scratch I've to adjust EVERY screens so they can fit the Colecovision's hardware limitations, wich include all the graphics and music .....so let's just say the entire game I've just start converting the graphics, so obviously it's not going to be release until late 2017 Meanwhile, you'll be able to follow the development of this game I'll keep posting progress here

Greetings all. I grew up with Colecovision and was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this community. I didn't know there was so much love for the colecovision out there. My favorite colecovision games are Frogger II, Carnival, Venture, Ladybug, Miner 2049 and Pepper II. My Mother was a HUGE Ladybug fan back in the day and when I happened to discover there is such thing as a "colecovision flashback" I was super excited, only to be super disappointed when I realized it is missing Ladybug. When I first saw the CFB i thought it would make a great Christmas gift for her but then I found out there is no Ladybug AND that the controllers are not so great (so I've heard from internet research) So in my search I stumbled upon this awesome forum. I still have my original colecovision and it still works fine, but the controllers are totally shot! I tried setting her up with the Adam Emu and a 360 gamepad but she said it sucks unless its the colecovision controller. I have been exploring several options, including just getting new controllers and maybe having someone do the AV mod, but then I stumbled upon this forum and found the pinned modding forum that refers to the HDMI mod which would be better than composite input (for a HDTV anyway). So now I have lots of questions about the different kind of options available. I'm unable to post in that Pinned thread, maybe something to do with me being new member? So I'm not sure if my questions can be answered in this thread but I wanted to get some insight on the different options I was considering. 1) get a coleco/adam controller and setup ladybug on an emu on her PC and get the adapter that lets you use the controller on PC through USB 2) get new controllers and get the AV mod for the original colecovision and call it a day and play using our original cartridges 3) (the one i'm leaning towards the most)...get the CV Flashback and send it to that modder to make it HDMI compatible and add lady bug too it and possible buy some original CV/adam controllers to use with it instead of the ones it comes with (if thats possible) I'm learning towards option 3....any suggestions? thanks for reading

I also have expansion modules, accessories, and games on the store as well. Here is the direct link: https://colecovisionupgradesandsales.ecwid.com/ This can also be accessed through facebook on my page: https://www.facebook.com/ColecoVisionUpgradeAndSales/ by clicking on the store tab. Any feedback is welcome. Thanks

http://www.blitter.com/~nebulous/Retro01.html People are welcome to use these photos. Part of the reason I posted these is to increase the amount of clean images of classic hardware so that the current generation can get an idea of what this stuff really looks like.

Now that Penguin Adventure is done, we have decided to take the last month of the year to port Gradius for the ColecoVision Super Game Module. That way we could concentrate on the two arcade ports next year. The SGM version of Gradius is based on the MSX version, which is quite good. However the SGM version will receive a complete makeover to make it look more like the arcade original. So for example, check the screenshots to see a before/after comparison of stage 2. About 50% of the code has been ported, and the visual makeover will start after we get the game fully ported and running. More info as development progress....

I am considering re-releasing Space Invaders Collection and Pac-Man Collection as part of the Super Game Module Arcade series. Games would be receiving the following enhancements: Space Invaders Arcade==================== - Fixed bugs - Improved performance - Improved sound, pitches are closer to arcade (like the very bassy invaders march) * - Added title scree music * - Improved title screen - Saves hi-score and score table * - Added sound test - New packaging Pac-Man Arcade======================== - Added new sprite mode, less color less flicker - Improved sound, pitches are now arcade perfect * - Improved title screen music * - Slightly improved/altered Ms Pac-Man graphics - Saves hi-score * - Added sound test - New packaging * Requires Super Game Module However, in order to cover my costs, I need at least 100 orders for each game. So I am starting a new list to see if I can get that many pre-orders. In case you might be interested, please subscribe to the following list: http://eepurl.com/1E7nf Thanks guys!
