Hey all, I've been getting some real junk on ebay lately, and really I should have known better. It seems like a lot of items are full of ALL CAPS warnings like: UNTESTED, PARTS ONLY, NO WAY TO TEST, etc. Now I understand that stuff can be broken, and also that you may not have a way to test it, but I've discovered a little trick to check on the seller's honesty for untested items. At least, I hope it can help. When an auction has an UNTESTED item listed, they usually state that they don't have the power supply, TV connector, etc. so they can't try it out. A quick way to see how reasonable this is - check out the other items the person is selling. For instance, if you're buying an UNTESTED Atari 1050 drive, and the seller also has a power supply for it in a different auction, 800XL's complete with cables, and a LOT of other game/computer items that relate to your item, it's probably really not UNTESTED, it's BROKEN! A more likely scenario for UNTESTED is that the seller doesn't have anymore items that directly relate to that UNTESTED item. I hope this helps. Of course, there are exceptions - like two different auctions for related parts, but they are listed as estate/yard sale finds. Very few people (in my opinion) would be willing to sell something that can be easily tested, which would increase the sale price. Anyone have any other ideas on how to decrease your chance of not getting junk (other than not bidding!) ? Thanks!

I'm selling off a moderately sized lot of PC games that I came across when cleaing out my closet for a move. A friend pointed me to this forum for exposure. I hope someone here might be interested in them and give some feedback on the value of the lot. I priced it at $10 given there are nearly 30 games, but that might be too high. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 151325311962 Updated link to relisted item

Just a heads-up to everyone who may not already be aware….Here is the email I received yesterday: IMPORTANT: PASSWORD UPDATE Dear eBay Member, To help ensure customers' trust and security on eBay, I am asking all eBay users to change their passwords. Here's why: Recently, our company discovered a cyberattack on our corporate information network. This attack compromised a database containing eBay user passwords. What's important for you to know: We have no evidence that your financial information was accessed or compromised. And your password was encrypted. What I ask of you: Go to eBay and change your password. Changing your password may be inconvenient. I realize that. We are doing everything we can to protect your data and changing your password is an extra precautionary step, in addition to the other security measures we have in place. If you have only visited eBay as a guest user, we do not have a password on file.If you used the same eBay password on any other site, I encourage you to change your password on those sites too. And if you are a PayPal user, we have no evidence that this attack affected your PayPal account or any PayPal financial information, which is encrypted and stored on a separate secure network. Here are other steps we are taking: As always, we have strong protections in place for both buyers and sellers in the event of any unauthorized activity on your account. We are applying additional security to protect our customers. We are working with law enforcement and leading security experts to aggressively investigate the matter. Here's what we know: This attack occurred between late February and early March and resulted in unauthorized access to a database of eBay users that includes customers' name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth. However, the file did not contain financial information. And, after conducting extensive testing and analysis of our systems, we have no evidence that any customer financial or credit card information was involved. We also have no indication of a significant spike in fraudulent activity on our site. We apologize for any inconvenience or concern that this situation may cause you. As a global marketplace, nothing is more important to eBay than the security and trust of our customers. We know our customers have high expectations of us, and we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure online experience for you on any connected device. Devin Wenig President, eBay Marketplaces

Bottle of Atari Water? Seriously, with eBay's free listings, the same auctions go up every 24-48 hours. I think this water has been on sale for over a year. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 161228200691

I have an Indus GT floppy drive for sale. It's in fantastic shape. It's been in storage (inside a ziploc bag) for about the past 10 years. I don't have any Atari floppies to test with, but it does power up and seek to track 39 after the self test. I'm only guaranteeing against DOA, but I'll be really surprised if it doesn't work. I looked around and I can't find another for sale on the internet. Not saying there aren't some, I just couldn't find any in a quick look around with google.. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 301055276718 I hate to give it up, but it's been in storage for so long, it's unrealistic to think I'll get around to it. In far more mundane news, I also have an auction for a 130 XE with 1050 that are also iin equally excellent condition. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 301055289614

I'm working on an article for my blog, and I'd like to include an image of what is probably shill bidding activity. I'm talking about an auction that has multiple, usually consecutive, bids by a user with zero feedback. The auction doesn't need to be ongoing, but I still need to be able to grab an image of the bid history. Thanks!

Just wanted to get some feedback on your feelings about posting links to live eBay auction listings for desirable items. On the one hand, you are sharing information that is not useful to you but may be useful to another member. On the other, you are sharing information that some would want to keep under wraps because they will have more competition (e.g. you point out a super rare hidden among a lot of commons). What I've learned is that most people are okay with sharing unless it affects them! But is that the best we can do?

How to a Discover a Successful Best Offer Price on eBay
boxpressed posted a topic in Auction Central
One of the things that annoys me about eBay is the inconsistency across its client software: web, mobile web, Android, iOS. You can do some things in one but not another, sometimes getting the data you want, sometimes not. More and more items are being sold via the "Best Offer" option on fixed-price listings. However, unless you are actively "watching" these items, they do not show up when you do a search for completed, sold listings when you are using a web browser. And if you can locate them with an item number search, you will see only that a best offer was accepted without knowing what that number is. You can subscribe to Terapeak to find out the number, but I discovered a quick-and-dirty way to do the same. For example, a very nice CIB Vectrex 3D Imager (with a CIB 3D Crazy Coaster!) sold on August 10. It started as a $999.99 BIN with the "Best Offer" option. However, do a search for "vectrex imager" from your browser, then click the "Sold listings" check box. If you are in the US as I am, you should see four domestic listings (as of the writing of this post). The listing described above is not one of the four. (You can find it by doing a search for the item number. It's 271255820450.) However, if you use the eBay app for iOS, you get three listings, and the third is the listing in question. I think this is because the web presence digs back further in time for listings--but it also does not show listings that ended with an accepted best offer. Using the iOS app, you will see the accepted best offer price in the green "price tag" icon at the corner of the image after you flip the "Sold items" switch and return to the listings. However, if you click on the image to see the listing description, the price will revert back to the BIN price, $999.99 in this case. Something tells me this is a bug in the app. This trick works on the Android eBay app too. Oh, and the accepted best offer was $800. Very nice pickup for whomever got it. -
Okay, I need your input, am I CRAZY for thinking this auction is 'out there'? I mean this is a minimum $13.99 for a couple of OPENED and EMPTY boxes with some old paperwork.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/paddlefeet/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= Atari Items! I am a pro at 1450 feedback, and still loving it. I am disabled, and don't work a traditional job. That is not a ploy for sympathy, but to tell you I have time on my hands..I believe that if I stop moving forward, or making goals for myself, then I can hit a rut letting depression in. Same for most people. This makes constructive with my time, also available for any questions, or mail packages. I always provide a quick answer. Atari is my hobby. Has been life long. I can use these skills to earn "extra", honest money to improve my situation. It takes many hours to manage auctions from start to finish, I love it. I truly enjoy cleaning, testing, and playing with everything I get in. I devote my attention to every item I sell. I love give these things a new life, with someone who will preserve it for more years to come. It saddens me that these things sit in attics, or basements all this time. I liberate it. I hope to sell memories, and happiness. It isn't all about the money, it is about occupying my time, doing something I am fond of, while earning a fair amount of money. Money always much needed, and appreciated. I have dozens of Atari items, and games in very good shape. More stuff added frequently. Can't find what you are looking for, drop me a line. Thanks!

Hello great gamers of the atariage forum! Letting you know that, in the attempt of cutting down on boxes, my game gear collection is going up piece by piece on ebay. I'll update this post with links as I get things up. I'll be posting what I understand are some of the rarer games in the collection (Shining Force, Sonic Labyrinth, Phantom 2040, Brahm Stoker's Dracula, Mortal Kombat's 1 & 2, & Itchy and Scratchy) All games come with at least the box (though, sadly, shining force's box is... well, not so shining anymore), and I'm still searching to see if I have a ziplock full of the game manuals.... Phantom 2040 (NIB) http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F271211913446%3FssPageName%3DSTRK%3AMESELX%3AIT%26_trksid%3Dp3984.m1555.l2649
