So I recently got given my first atari console - a 2600jr - from a mate after getting his main console running and working properly. I consider this a good score as its the first Atari I've seen in my neck of the woods (even checking second hand game shops which had nada). Anyways I ended up with the console, 2 games and 1 joystick and no power cable. I've since repaired the joystick to have tactile switches in it so it's usable again and made up a power cable to spec and then an adaptor for the rf cable so I could use it as it didnt have the switchbox. I've tested the unit and gotten picture and sound, however the picture is snowy/staticy after being tuned to channel 3 @ 61.5MHz, so I tried adjusting the L6 rf inductor and found that the inside part of the inductor you adjust was crumbling. I was wondering if anyone had the specs for the inductor in question or the Service Manual for the 2600jr or I wait until I get the composite video mod componets and remove the inductor per the instructions for my board. I'm also planning on getting a recap kit from console5 for it as well Many thanks in advance and its nice to be here :3 p.s quality image is from before I played with the RF, which improves it but still isn't great
Hi, I've been on the forums for awhile(mostly reading) -the posts are very informative and friendly. After doing my own av mods and considering selling the units or doing installs for others, I wanted to get a feel for what people consider my quality of work. Also to make the installs as clean as possible - I think RCA jacks sticking out the back look terrible and even worse - the sides. One is a 2600jr with the ElectronicSentimentalities s video mod( av cable connects to a trs jack in the old RF port - I wanted to use a trs jack and then saw the game-tech install video using the RF port) and 2600 vader with 2600RGB mod(with composite -trs jack, component - trs jack, s video and RGB via framemeister cable). I don't like hot glue and it's almost never needed - I used epoxy for the ports. And once the case is closed - nothing should be moving if the wiring was routed right. Yes, I did use cat5 wire for the installs, but solid core is better for something thats not moving and its what I got with the kit from ES. I know the ports on the vader are a little tilted, but was also my first time using epoxy. Here are some pics, feel from to ask questions or give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. - Thanks
Maybe I should have posted this here the first time. I have a 2600jr I got roughly a month ago and was happy to finally have one in the collection. Top was beat up, but it worked fine. I had been playing it this past weekend with no issues and even found another top for it, then yesterday I went to play it before swapping the tops and all I kept getting was a dark grey/black screen of death when I plugged in a a cart and turned it on. Any ideas what happened? I tried swapping power packs and RF boxes to no avail. Tried different carts as well with the same issue.
I have been so happy to have a working 2600jr in my collection and have been using it all weekend to test some games I got from a friend. Today I hooked it up, inserted a cartridge and... got a dark grey/black screen of death. Tried different cartridges, power supply, switch box, and even RF cord with the same results. I can see a little bit of the figures on some games, but that is it. What happened? I just found a better top for this thing and was going to swap tops this evening. Now I feel a little bummed.
