I'd like to add a Bally Astrocade to the collection. I'm not picky as to model, it can be the Home Library Computer, Professional Arcade, Computer System, Astrocade, etc. I just want a working console, which I understand can be difficult since they are prone to issues. So if you are considering parting with yours or have a lead on a Bally Astrocade guy (or gal) who has 10 stacked in their basement, let me know. Thanks!

With the help of Jason Scott of the Internet Archive, I have finally added the 26.8 GB of scans from the Bob Fabris Collection to the Internet Archive. These are scans that are NOT on BallyAlley.com. These are from my half of the Bob Fabris collection. Paul Thacker has the other half of the collection. His files were uploaded to Archive.org a few years ago. All of the files are organized by the box from which the documents were scanned. This is how the files are organized on my hard drive for simplicity of finding the original document, if I ever needed it again. A few years ago, I realized that my task of putting all of these files on BallyAlley.com isn't ever going to be finished. Last week, Paul Thacker made a personal request of me to finally get these files online before they get lost or forgotten about on my local hard drive. At my request, Jason Scott zipped all of these files by "box" and the files can be downloaded as nine zipped archives: one zip archive per "box." This is the simplest way to distribute the files. It doesn't make the files easy to search, but it does put them out there for those that are curious to be able to go through them all at their leisure rather than waiting for them to, possibly, appear someday on BallyAlley.com. In these nine "boxes" are 8,487 Files in 931 Folders. The zip archives are here: https://archive.org/details/Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo Here are the file names and sizes: 1) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_01.zip - 2.0GB 2) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_02.zip - 407.7MB 3) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_03.zip - 640.4MB 4) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_04.zip - 2.3GB 5) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_05.zip - 990.8M 6) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_06.zip - 2.5GB 7) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_07.zip - 8.7GB 8 ) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_08.zip - 1.9GB 9) Bob_Fabris_Scans_Collection_by_Adam_Trionfo_Box_09.zip - 3.5GB Over the next few days, weeks (and possibly months), I'll be describing the contents of these archives. Indeed, I may resurrect the Astrocast and make a few solo-host podcast episodes just to talk about what's available here. These files aren't just "locked" in these archives. Jason will also be placing the files on Archive.org in more accessible formats that can be easy viewed, but for those that are curious and want a local copy of the files, then this is your one-stop destination to pick up all of these documents that are sitting out in my garage. In the meantime, I'd like a few people to download these archives, just to test them out and make sure that they work okay. Also, any and all comments about their contents are appreciated. If you find some neat files, then please point them out to us, for even I haven't looked thoroughly through the contents of the Bob Fabris Collection. Adam P.S. I'm currently uploading a directory to archive.org's FTP site that is called "To-Upload." It contains 10GB of data in 3,572 Files and 613 folders. These are even more files that I plan to someday add to the BallyAlley.com website. These additional files are from various places on the Internet and with many additional scans from both halves of the Fabris Collection.

The interesting trend in the 70s was store-branded video games. There were store branded everything in the 70s. I posed this question asking about "linear media" on lddb.com, a laser disc website, and I knew about the Sears Beta, and later found out about the JCPenney VHS, and was wondering if there was a store brand Laser Disc or Selectavision (a format often confused with Laser Disc, but different). I used video game store brands like Sears Telegames, Sears Super Telegames, Tandy Vision, and Montgomery Ward Game System, which were respectively, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Intellivision, and Bally as examples. I don't know the logic behind it. I assume it was to keep store brand loyalty. But I assume it can backfire. If Sears was talking about the Telegames and Super Telegames, and didn't have an Atari 260 and Intellivision section, if you were from Mars, you'd say the were promoting their own brand. Kind of like what Aldi does with most of their food products. Was their marketing not to mention the brand name, and use only the store name? I understand they wanted store loyalty, but did they keep more sales they'd lose to other stores with store brands, or did they lose more sales from brand name people by browsing and seeing only store brand stuff? I'm trying to figure out whether it was a net positive to have store branding or a net negative. If you've owned any of these system during their prime, whether you were a kid, a parent, or a childless grownup at the time: Atari 2600, Intellivision, Bally Astrocade, Sears Telegames, Sears Super Telegames, Tandyvision, Montgomery Ward Game System, the question is "Have you dabbled or stayed loyal, ether out of ignorance of their intercompatibility or out of pride?" By the way, I voted no interactive media, since my first was a Colecovision, which had no store brand problems, and a Sanyo BetaCord (a name brand), and dad didn't avoid Sears for Beta tapes. I think they were branded as Sears Beta brand tapes, which he has bought before. I see them downstairs, so No for avoiding Sears Brand Beta tapes.

On March 26, 2018, I posted the following message to the BallyAlley Yahoo group: Is anyone interested in having a programming contest for the Astrocade? My ideas: 1) Program in machine language or BASIC 2) Short programs for a start 3) Program of any kind (game, demo, music, video art, etc). 4) Prize? I've no idea. Does anyone want to give this a go? Adam ----------------- David Dibbern responded with: My skills were fair back in The day, but I would be interested in a retro port contest. A contest to make any retro arcade game that was not already done for the Bally, ported over . I would even pay pal $10 for starting a prize fund for this. We could get some cool retro games that we wanted to see ported but didn’t ever make it to the Astrocade Thanks- Dave ----------------- Thomas Burtell said: This would be very interesting! Programming has changed so much over the years and we all have gotten better. I'm focusing on other stuff right now, but I'd definitely like to see this Bally-battle. It's like what they do on StackExchange with "Code Golf". You have to write the tightest code with the minimal of resources. ... back to lurking. ----------------- Is anyone here on AtariAge interested in a programming contest for the Astrocade, either in BASIC or machine language? Today I finally dug out my two Astrocades. One has the Bally label and the other one has an Astrovision label on it. The first one still works perfect and looks great on the little RCA Colortrack TV I just bought for $10 today. The second one works pretty good as well, but it initially comes up garbage on the screen and I have to hit Reset. After that, it works fine. I think it was always that way and I can live with that as long as it doesn't get worse. Now, I need to find some more games. I only have 8 carts, counting my Bally Basic and I know more were made. Also, I need to find a place that sells stick on, rubber feet as each unit has one foot left and I want to get those air vents higher for better breathing!

So I brought back my Astrocade, and decided to fix the PSU issue. The main problem is that I'm in Europe, and so, the Astrocade PSU might not like being fed 50htz instead of 60htz. I know that late Astrocade received a 12V PSU instead of the double voltage originally shipped with. Does anyone have a dead one or a spare one he could open so I know which wires I need to link together, and if there is any capacitor or resistor inside?

Ok, I've been trying to get rid of this for awhile now but I guess selling this large of a collection in one shot just isnt going to happen so I have decided to break it up. Here is the list again. If you are interested in anything just shoot me an email with a list and offer. The bulk of these cartridges were acquired by me NEW...although they have all been opened. They have not been used and are therefor in new condition. I have multiple variations of many games including cartridge and manual variations. After each game you will see a note on each. The manuals will simply be denoted as the large book size or the small cassette size. The carts will be marked with the following guidelines: B1 Bally Original Copyright. B2 Bally Updated Copyright. B3 Bally Numbers and updated Copyright A1 Astrovision A2 Astrocade If the game was made by a third party it will be marked as cart or cart and manual. Some of the harder to find and more valuable games are bold and highlighted in red 280 ZZZap/Dodgem (2001) B1 small&large $15 Amazing Maze (5001) B2 small (2 variations) SOLD Artillery Duel (5005) A2 large $25 Astro Battle (2009) B3 small&large SOLD Astrocade Pinball (3005) A2 $70 Bally Basic (6002) B1 large $8 Bally Basic (6004) sealed in package $15 Bally Basic W/Interface B1 large $50 Bally Pin (3005) B2 B3 small&large $15 each BioRhythm (4004) A1 large $10 Black Jack/Poker/Acey (5002) B1 small SOLD Black Jack/Poker/Acey (5002) manual large SOLD Blast Droids (Spectrecade) cart and manual SOLD Clowns/Brickyard (2004) B2 B3 small&large $13 each Cosmic Raiders (2019) A2 $50 Dealer Demo B1 $50 Dogpatch (2010) B2 B3 small&large $15 each Elementary Math Bingo Math (4001) B1 small $15 Football (3002) B2 small SOLD Football (3002) B3 large $20 Galactic Invasion (2011) A1 large $13 Grand Prix (2014) A1 large $13 Incredible Wizard (2017) A2 largeX2 $15 Letter Match (4002) B1 small&large SOLD Ms. Candyman (L&M) cart $150 Muncher *marked Muncher SOLD Muncher *marked Test Programme $70 Muncher *marked with graphic of game (says Pac Man on start up screen) (only about a dozen of these exist) SOLD Panzer Attack (2003) B1 A2 small&large $15 each Pirates Chase (2015) A2 large $20 Sea Devil (L&M) cart and manual $200 Sea Wolf/Bombardier (2002) B3 $50 Sea Wolf/Missile (2002) B1 large $10 Sneaky Snake (New Image) cart and manual SOLD.
