  1. Hi, I'm thinking about a device with more than 8 GPIO (general purpose I/O) outputs on two joystick ports, i.e. like an inverse multijoy with four 4-bit latches connected to port 0, selected and latched by port 1, resulting in 16 outputs to control external devices like lamps or motors, etc... I have a vague memory that such a device already exists. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Regards, Ivo Edit: I call it GPIO but I'm only talking about outputs
  2. I have a "Mostly Working" coloecvision. If you supply power to it, it turns on. If you put in a cartridge, it reads it. The only problem is due to bad instruciotns from Adam's House, I permenantly ruined my Joyport 1 on the Colecovision, so I can't plug in any joystick. they told me to pull the port, so I pulled it apart, and it got ruined. I'm not getting much help from the repair shop, who told me to to find a non-working colecovision, and transplant the joyport. he says he can solder it for $25 -the $10 analysis fee. I asked if there is a generic equivalent part for the right angle Colecovision DB9 port? The repairman said there was none. I asked A couple companies whihc may have the piece, and they said they didn't know enough about the particular repair or the Colecoviison itself to answer the question. I'm trying to get the repairman on board. All he has to do is solder on a new 9-pin connector. But he insists on a genuine CV connector, becuase there is no part number on it, so he can't look up equivalents. I found this searching for a solder-on DB9 right angle connector: https://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/3530-14009.php?utm_source=GoogleShopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=3530-14009&utm_campaign=DB9%20Right%20Angle%20Female%20Connector%2C%20Solder%20Type&gclid=CjwKCAjw5ZPcBRBkEiwA-avvk6cT-8xUjIPMCP6SxL0hcXOUZuYkZJAbaXnnP17vGGB21YoWSrEwsRoCx1kQAvD_BwE $4 shipping plus <$1 for the cost of 1, plus I know it's not ruined. A lot less in cost and a lot more sure to work than a stereotypical non-working Colecovision. The only thing I don't know is whether it's compatible with a Colecovision.
  3. My newly acquired 1200XL has a bad joystick 0. Using the little program below, when a known/good joystick is attached, it is reading '13' instead of '15'. What are the toubleshooting steps to diagnose and fix such an issue? Other details... Joystick 1 works great. Joystick 0 works somewhat with some games. Example: with Centipede I can move left/right and fire but can't move up/down. with Donkey Kong, it works great. with PacMan it does not work at all as PacMan immediately goes South and gets stuck on the first wall it hits. Thanks!!
  4. Hi, I am looking for a solution to connect and transfer signals from a Windows or Linux to Atari 2600 console I mean , I would like to send joystick signals like (up, down, left , right , button click) from the PC Windows to the console joystick port (without using a joystick) Any ideas how to produce this functionality ? I understand that the Atari Joystick does not works on 5V of On/Off signals , but closing each time a different circuit. How can I simulate this behavior with other device ? maybe Arduino or other device ? Any suggestions ? Eran
  5. This seems like an interesting device: https://hackaday.com/2021/01/22/mouster-brings-usb-to-retro-computers/ A very small USB adapter that takes any USB mouse (not only PS2) and turns signals into DB9 for the joystick port. Works with some USB game controllers too. Wonder if it would be any good on the TI-99/4a. Unfortunately firmware source code doesn’t seem to be available and the price is perhaps a bit steep (25 euros), but still acceptable.
