  1. I’ve got a junior that turns on fine. You see the game, but it’s as if the signal is not fully lined up with the channel selected. I’ve tried different channels, gave it a cleaning, twisted the red thingie to see if that would help, asked politely but nothing’s made a difference. I also tried to find what’s always referred to as the chiclet looking film capacitor on earlier models but not having luck. Any experts know if there’s a specific that seems like an obvious fix?
  2. Hi folks, I am new at AtariAge. Months ago, I've got an AV-modded european Atari 2600 Jr. (Rev. F board) in a great condition for cheap. However, here at my country (Brazil), PAL-B compatible TV sets are rare to find. The closest color system that is supported by most TVs is PAL-N (PAL variation used in Argentina and a few more countries in South America). I tried to replace the 4.433618 MHz XTAL with a 3.582056 MHz one, but that gave me no colors in any PAL-N compatible set. Also tried to replace the 3.546894 MHz one with a second 3.582056 MHz XTAL, but still gave me nothing but B&W picture. Is there something I can do to make this console output PAL-N? Both systems are 50 Hz and have the same resolution, so it should work somehow. Thanks a lot!
  3. Good question. Answer: it is set up as part of an exhibition called "Erzähl mir was vom Tod" (german for "Let's talk about death"). Sitting right next to a PSone, it's meant to be an example for how Death came into videogames. Let's not argue about if its true or not that Outlaw was one of the first ever games involving death. There is an Atari console set up in the museum where I work!!! How cool is that??? It is a really cool exhibition - not only because of the Atari. Target audience are kids. The exhibition does a pretty good job of introducing the topic of death gently, with tact and sensitivity to children. And while it's at it, it introduces kids to the Atari 2600. Sweet!
  4. OK, I didn't know if I should post this here or in Hardware, so I just put it here. I just got a 2600 Jr. today and it has a few issues. When you first turn it on, with any game or the Harmony cart, it takes probably 10 seconds before the picture shows up on the TV. When you put a Battlezone cart in and turn it on, it takes a few seconds, then you get the radar and some other random bits of the picture kind of jumping around the screen, then it will show up correctly, but with a very dim picture. In a couple of seconds, the picture brightens up and the colors are all good. If Demons to Diamonds is inserted, same wait time on start-up, but the color and brightness are good. Now, here's the big problem. When you hit reset to start Demons to Diamonds, it goes from color to Black and White. Unplugging the rca cable from the back of the console and then slowly putting it back, will allow you to see a split second of color before it goes B&W again. The same thing happens using the Demons and Diamonds .bin on the Harmony Encore. Also, With the Harmony, if you switch it off, while it's B&W and then switch it right back on, the Harmony menu is in B&W. Switching it off and on again, results in color. The Jr. isn't modded and an inspection of the board showed no bad solder joints or leaky caps. The Serial is A1781245617 The board is CO21503 Revision C On most games, it looks great, the colors and the picture are better than my AV modded Vader and 7800, other than the lack of a picture for a few seconds when you turn it on. Demons to Diamonds is the only game I've found so far that triggers the B&W issue, but I feel like that's a sign of something needing repair. So, does anyone have an answer as to what's wrong with it?
  5. How is it compared to the original 2600?
  6. Good day to you all! I've been pretty successful in modding old PAL 2600 Junior Consoles to Composite Output. But now I stumbled upon 1 (2 in fact) very stubborn one. I would be glad if you guys could help me troubleshoot this, and lend me some advice on how to find out what is broken. I already checked the usual stuff like power and power supply. It has 9v power and the led is also shining brightly red. The only problem is, there is no video output from it. It is the board revision F.1.1 (the other one is Rev F). There are no visible damaged components or capacitors so I am all out of ideas. I already made the Composite mod, to quickly check if there is any video output and the parts of the mod are all okay and working correctly, as I tested it on another console successfully. The strange thing is, R28 had a capacitor soldered onto the same pins as the resistor itself. I desoldered it and tried it again with no success. It looked like the one on C12 (yellow blob). So, to get to the point, is there anything I can check to find out what is wrong? I own a multimeter and all the tools necessary except for a logic analyzer or an oscilloscope. I would be endlessly glad if you could help me get to the root of this by any means, so I can gift another old console for Christmas. Thank you and best regards/great holidays. Fleder

  8. Okay, so I own a 4 switch Vader, A Light Sixer, and a Heavy Sixer. I mostly play my Vader due to it being a newer more reliable console. But also play my Heavy often, due to the better video quality. But my question is. Is it worth owning a Junior? They look cheap and ugly to me and it just seemed like Atari's last ditch effort to breath life into a dying console. Even though I do consider myself a collector of Atari 2600's. I still need a legitimate reason before I spend my money on a console. So is there a real reason to buy a Junior? Or am I good with what I already have?
