This is a work in progress.. will be happy to add anything missing - Greg A few bits of information, rules and guidelines on posting. Short links to our sub-forums: TI-99/4A Computers http://ti99.atariage.com TI-99/4A Development http://dev99.atariage.com Please read the AtariAge site guidelines which apply to and are enforced in our subs. Our sub-forums are divided to help cater to the varied interests in our beloved platform. The parent sub-forum, TI-99/4A Computers, contains general information and conversation regarding the TI-99/4A and its siblings, such as the 99/2, 99/8, CC-40, and BASICALCS. The sub-forum TI-99/4A Development is for conversations, information, announcements, etc. pertaining to programming, tinkering, or the development of software or hardware for these computers. This division is not intended to be a separation of the community but rather a way for those who have little interest in development but moreso in general discussions to focus their time on the fun-zone, while those who take more interest in the deep-down nitty-gritty and not so much general shenanigans to focus their attention just the same. The rest of us can spend all the time we want and will peruse both subs with reckless abandon. Insofar as development is concerned, once hardware or software has been completed or is at least ready for general consumption, an announcement should be made in the general TI-99/4A Computers forum for all to partake. Further development and inquiries should still be continued within the TI-99/4A Development sub-forum. The forum leader will move threads to a more appropriate forum. This may also be done by request should a thread be started in the wrong forum by accident or the trajectory changes from general to development or vice-versa. The forum leader will also merge identical threads started in both forums into a single thread in the proper forum. Per AtariAge guidelines, please refrain from posting identical threads in both sub-forums as way to ensure the topic gets viewed. Many people already browse both subs, and if your topic pertains more to development rather than general, or vice-versa, the thread should exist in the appropriate forum. As well, multiple threads created on the same topic in the same forum will be merged. Regular members can edit a post for 60 minutes after submission. This allows you to fix any issues you may notice with the post right away. Subscribers can edit posts for 30 days. In the Marketplace and Programming forums you can edit your posts indefinitely, since the flexibility of allowing editing of posts outweighs the potential abuse of the edit functionality. If you make a duplicate post in a thread, which can happen by accident or some unforeseen technical glitch, report the post by clicking on the "report" link at the bottom of the post and indicate in the report that the post is a duplicate. Anything you would like to share with your fellow 99ers but is seriously off-topic for the forum may be posted in the official off-topic thread, located here To find the most popular threads click on sort by and select most popular. All of us are ready and willing to provide answers to your TI-99 questions if we can, some will just chime in if they cannot, and others will just lurk. If you have any questions specifically pertaining to the operation of our forums, please feel free inquire of the forum leader via Private Message (PM,) or one of the global moderators. I got three broken Atari Lynx systems as part of of lot. None of them can play games. Two of the three systems have been worked on by a previous owner. It looks like new capacitors were added to those two systems. The third system was untouched by the previous owner. The two systems that were worked on both turn on but neither has game audio or shows anything on the screen besides the backlight. The third system that was untouched doesn't turn on at all. My question is would it be possible to assemble a working unit by taking parts and moving them between units? I read somewhere online that I would only need to replace the switching power mosfet chip for the system to turn on. Maybe all of them have bad chips but hopefully that isn't the case. Also I cleaned the ribbon cables, pin connectors, and everything else thoroughly. So cleaning won't solve anything. It won't let me embed the images from imgur. Here is the link: https://imgur.com/a/jdfRUrX Any help with this would be appreciated

Hi, I'm new here. I am interested in creating a simple 2 player fighting game similar to Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. I was wondering before I started coding, how feasible this would be due to the VCS's hardware limitations. I have been reading Andrew Davies tutorial series on the forum as well as have some knowledge of 6502 and M68000 assembly.

I've noticed eBay sellers have become irritated by questions. If I ask a couple of questions about an Item, most of the time, they respond to the first one, and gloss over the others. It's like they are saying, Damn!, now I have to actually find the item, and give details. I always ask where they got the item from, and this is the one, that I can sense fumes, coming from the screen. Anyone else notice this. Any ideas?

So a friend of mine sent me a TRS-80 Model III that her dad owned, along with a handful of software. It's a 48k model with two disk drives, so it was the high-end Model III that Radio Shack sold. It arrived a few days ago, and I've been checking it out to make sure everything works, and for the most part, it appears to be in pretty good condition. It's seen little use over the years, and has spent a large amount of its time in storage. Unfortunately, it does seem to have developed some issues over the years, and I wanted to check with the community to get some advice on what I need to do to repair these things, and if I need parts, where I can get those. Here are the issues I've found thus far: The brightness and contrast pots are both seized up. My guess is due to oxidation over the years, possibly from being in storage and not really being used a lot. Neither of the two disk drives seem to be getting any power. The computer will turn on and boots up with the "CASS?" message in the upper-left corner. The disk drives do not spin when switched on. I'm suspecting the power board that controls the disk drives, and my guess is one or more capacitors have failed. I did a quick glance at the board last night and didn't see any that looked like they had been physically burned or anything like that, but I can supply photos later tonight if that would be of help. One of the disk drives has a broken latch. The latch can still operate and will still hold the disk down, but one of the plastic bits has broken off, and sometimes when you set the latch, the drive mechanism inside pops loose and goes back up. It's a minor issue, and shouldn't affect anything so long as I slowly set the latch and make sure it's secured down. This is the least of the issues I've found, and one I can easily fix later. The most pressing of the issues, of course, is the power board, because the brightness and contrast are already set at a comfortable level. It's just that at some point I'd like to fix that as well so I can make adjustments as needed later.

So I bought a sears heavy sixer in the box on ebay about eight months ago and I have some questions about the contents of the box. The controllers that came with the box appear to be cx-40's so I was wondering if any of the sears heavy sixer's came with cx-40's originally or if the controllers I got were replacements. I also didn't get target fun with the box so I was wondering if that came cart only or cib. I am missing the original power adapter and TV switch box so I doubt I would ever actually complete it, (the box is in fairly poor condition anyway) but I am still curious about it. What do you guys think about the sears heavy sixer? I personally love the silver control panel and simulated walnut wood grain. I honestly like the aesthetic better then the regular atari vcs. For $90+s&h in box I think it was well worth it.

Okay, I admit I've had my skunkboard for a few months now and have been procrastinating on setting it up. Finally today I plugged it into my Dell running windows 7 and fired it up along side the setup PDF. After much finagling, I FINALLY got windows to install the drivers and all seemed to be going well. I got the green screen, was able to load the little tech demo's, etc, etc. Here are my issues: 1. JCP won't load. I double click on the .exe file and a little black window opens for a split second and then disappears again. Anyone have this issue and any ideas for a solution? 2. How do you actually load games on this thing? When I turn on the jag a little icon pops up giving you the ability to disconnect the hardware safely, but there is no file that pops up among your libraries like a USB storage device would, to click and drag roms to. Do I have to load files via commands on JCP? That seems like a real pain in the ass... Overall my impression is that this thing really is for programmers, as it seems to be several steps higher in difficulty to use than your average USB cart on the market. It's also pretty annoying that you can't reset via the controller or exit the tech demos once you started running them. What am I missing or doing wrong?
